    Owen's won 4 gold medals in the 1936 Olympics in Germany. The only reason black people were allowed to participate is because they needed the US backing them up financially and also to help convince the IOC to give Germany the games. One of the conditions was to allow black athletes to participate.They agreed but were not happy about it. As for the beets reference, a lot of cotton plantations in the south fed their slaves beets and cabbages and potatoes. Cheap and easy to grow. As for measuring the size of the head, there was a pseudo-science called phrenology that claim that the size of the head determined how smart you were. Sadly, slave owners determined the price of their slaves often by that quack science!

      Now I certainly do not want to appear to be defending Hitler in any way... But he only greeted / shook hands with German Gold Medal Winners (and apparently Finnish ones) on the first day. The IOC told him that was not acceptable and he should either shake hands with all gold Medal winners, or none. So he chose none.
      Owens and Hitler did however exchange friendly "waves" when Owens won his first Gold. What Owens actually critized is that he was snubbed by his own President, Roosevelt. None of the black US Athletes received any official mention or honors and were not invited to the White House, as opposed to the white athletes. So weirdly, at least when it came to black people, it appeared the US were more racist back in the 30s, than even the Nazis.
      Blacks in Germany did not really exist, as there was not much in the way of colonial history and slavery never was a thing (at least not for ~2000 years). They had this dumb superiority complex way of looking at it: The Africans need the Europeans to civilize and devolop them and they are of course an inherently inferior race. So kind of what South Africa was like until the 1990s.

    One of my favorite K&P sketches is the one about the substitute teacher calling roll in the high school class. Cracks me up every time I see it! I know a guy who has a friend named Aaron, and he always calls him A-A-Ron after seeing that sketch.

    I met Keegan in a restaurant in a suburb of Detroit. I was born in Detroit and he grew up there. I was sitting with a fellow teacher . We said hi and he stopped by our booth and talked for a few minutes. He said he was waiting for a friend to meet him there. It was around Christmas. The restaurant wasn’t fancy. It was a nice diner in Royal Oak called TOAST. What a nice guy! After he left, we were both mad that we hadn’t asked him for a picture.

    I will watch K&P all day here if you keep em coming! The "Awesome Hitler Story" is also great if you haven't seen it yet, and has the same actor for the German guy.
    Other favorites are the Mary Jane Prescription, Black Ice, and the Church Ladies vs Satan.

    The food misdirection and using can’t resist the beet is funny on two levels because he didn’t bring up any other regular stereotypes however, he is referring to music.

    For an idea how blacks were treated by the rest of Europe at that time you may want to watch 'The battle of Bamber Bridge", when segregation arrived in the UK.
    as well as what happened to the black GI's who stayed in Germany after the war.

    Germans didnt hate black people as much as jews or even slavs, I think. There were even black guys in wehrmacht plus there was the "Free Arabian Legion", which were Nazi German units formed from volunteers from the Middle East and North Africa.
    I'm still waiting for a hollywood movie about WW2 with black people in nazi uniforms, that would bring some hilarious criticism 😂

    Regarding history and timelines - I don’t know when hitler hated what demographic when. Maybe during the 1936 Olympics it was just the Jews and the years after he expanded to include gays and blacks?

    I think the point of them just inventing stupid steroetypes as jokes for the sketch was actually a point about the lies and stupid things that people were told about minorities in Germany at the time. Like Jewish people having horns and such. Or it's just stupid and funny! Though the phrenology stuff about heads being in half sizes might've been a real thought at the time. Great sketch either way! Hahahaha! I love Key and Peele!

    • @MusicalJackknife
      @MusicalJackknife หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, the joke is him ignoring the obvious signs (looks, accent, hair, etc.) and testing them on false assumptions, as if the Nazis' best expert on black people has never seen one in real life but "knows" everything about them from what he's read.

    I mean 😂😂 in that time berlin hosted the Olympics, before the war, obviously his intentions were the same, however Germany was not yet prepared to go to war, specially with the US, so internally in the country the dehumanisation and persecution of jews have already began, not as extreme as camps which would come later in play, internationally, Germany had to keep appearances as to hide their intentions, although there have been numerous reports of what hitler is planning how he thinks etc... its just Europe was coming out of ww1 and most of the countries simply ignored all the information that was coming from germany, even when he took france they still tried to make peace with hitler, part of his rise was that countries in europe didnt have a stomach for war anymore at the time
