    Taking a John Deere tire off s so satisfying, especially when removing the clip. Our L-110 has been with us for 16 years, and we are just replacing her tires now, plus she needs a new seat, and a fresh coat of paint. John Deere's are the best, and the saying is indeed true, "Nothing runs like a Deere".

    Great video. A few hacks I needed to do:
    1) I used a regular car jack as I didn’t have a floor jack. I put it under the tie rod of each wheel (one side at a time), which left the tractor more stable. Worked fine.
    2) 20 y.o. Dust caps were bear to get off. I had to warm them with a hair dryer to make the plastic more flexible. Recommend you replace caps when wheels replaced.
    3) Surprise! This is a messy job as when you take off the dust caps they are filled with grease (if you have the kind of wheels with the grease nub). Gloves recommended
    4) Old tires came off easy, but new ones did not just slide on. Suggest you grease axle heavily as well as wheel bearings. I had to pound the wheel on with a mallet pressed up against small piece of 2x4 held up against center of wheel
    5) If you don’t have needle nose pliers to remove the c-clip, regular pliers will work (just a little harder to grab), or even tip of screwdriver gently pushing it off.
    Thought these tips might help.

      I also ended up cutting the caps off with a razor knife since the old caps were 10 years old, and would not budge.

    For repairing your outer wall on the tire, use a product called "Right Stuff" (Napa), which is for making gaskets. Very durable, flexible, heat resistant.
    Also, consider Flex Seal. I actually repaired a compact tractor tire with multiple punctures from mesquite thorns. I did a double coating on the inside of the tire. First coat, let dry and cure, then apply the second coat. The tire is still holding air after 6 years, no refilling of air. It was better to try than fork out $800 for a tire.
    The mower isn't going on the road. I believe my suggestions maybe more economically beneficial. If it works, great. If not, you only spent the cost of the Right Stuff, or Flex Seal. These can be used for something else.

    • @suburbanacreage
      @suburbanacreage  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great comment and I agree with the no risk attempt. With the low speeds and non road use of a lawn tractor, there’s little safety concern if the repair didn’t last.

    Once-wheel was removed,the axle shaft should be cleaned and put some never seize on it. Now you’re ready for next removal.👍

    This is probably a silly question, but is this the same process for the rear tires?

    • @suburbanacreage
      @suburbanacreage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not silly at all because it’s totally different! The rear wheels are much more “traditional” in that they are held on with lug bolts. I have a video for the rear wheels you can check out here:

    If my valve stem is facing on the inside instead of the outside like yours, am I okay to just invert when putting my wheel back on?

    • @suburbanacreage
      @suburbanacreage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’d totally do that, not sure why it would be facing the other way. I’d think you’d always want it on the outside so you have better access to it for filling, checking pressure, or topping off.

    Can you put a Tube in a TUBELESS TIRE (E-170)

    • @suburbanacreage
      @suburbanacreage  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh heck yeah! Adding a tube can be a great way to extend the life of the tire. Tires can crack and dry rot and start to leak air before the tread is worn out.

    What if the tire goes all the way in but doesnt leave space to place the clip back on whats the problem here. ???? Why wont it stick out enought to place the washer and the clip.

    • @57silverwings
      @57silverwings 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you replaced tire on a new rim most of the aftermarket rims are 1/4 inch bigger so the washer won’t fit.
