This is very true , just figured this out the other day. So I only buy straight from Amazon or when it’s says sold by manufacturer.. so if it says ships and sold by Amazon I will buy it or if it says ships from Amazon and sold by the manufacturer I will also buy it., but when it’s says sold by a third party I label it as counterfeit. Third party just cannot be trusted when it comes to supplements. I also only buy from trusted reputable brands who make quality supplements..

So very smart! We just want to make sure we are getting the real product! Most of these supplements are simply to expense to risk getting a counterfeit version! Thank you for sharing!

    Hi Allyssa
I appreciate any efforts to help educate consumers about the supplement industry. There are some very good reputable brands on the market however as you pointed out there are companies that are more interested in profits over quality. However that being said I need to correct a few points you made.
    1. White powder swapping. Ie (Swapping a bogus placebo powder for an active ingredient.) The likelihood this occurs on any scale would be small. I know this because I've been in the industry and supplement manufacturing for over 35yrs. Could a contract manufacturer do this ? Sure however any brand who works through a contract manufacturer to buy say a Calcium Citrate product, the contract manufacturer is liable to the brand for supplying what's on the label. Does swapping occur ? Yes I've seen it, but its usually a trademarked ingredient for a lesser expensive Chinese made ingredient. The lesser expensive one still will assay with the correct active ingredient but may not have been purchased by the correct raw material supplier.
But the idea that lots of brands are swapping out ingredients for baking powder is just plain inaccurate. Some manufacturers might add more excipients like maltodextrin or Dicalcium Phosphate. But NO contract manufacturer would risk the litigation of manufacturing a total bogus product. If a store ie CVS were to assay the product and it came back as not having the potency or harmful ingredients, the contract manufacturer is liable.
    2. Buying from only a mfg on Amazon. This one too is misleading. While its always nice to buy direct from the mfg's store. There are plenty of reputable resellers on Amazon that buy from an authorized distributor and sell the products on Amazon. Its perfectly legal and these larger resellers pride themselves on 97-99%+ customer satisfaction. In many cases these are very large wholesalers who sell thousands of products. And many "brands" choose to sell through these larger resellers because they have the customer base and marketing dollars to get a product listing to rank higher in search results.
    3. Expiration date. A vitamin supplement exp varies depending on what kind of product it is. Food products (ie nutrition bars) are generally 12-18mo and supplements/botanicals up to 3yrs. At exp these products are not harmful. They don't get spoiled like milk or produce. The FDA says you have to guarantee the potency of ingredients on the label. And ALL ingredients loose their potency over time. That does not mean that they are harmful. You used the word toxic. That would not be accurate for the avg nutritional supplement.
    4. Substandard ingredients. This I agree with you on. DSHEA (The Dietary Supplement Health Education Act) is what governs supplements. It does allow brands to market a particular supplement for a specific use occasion. Or that a supplement supports a certain body function. These are the claims in bullet points on the front of a label. This is the biggest area where there's lots of manipulation in the industry. Because two brands can make the same claim on the label doesn't mean both will be as effective in helping the consumer. Companies use very creative tactics to claim super potencies of a particular product and these tactics are legal but they prey on the lack of awareness of the science or dosages necessary to achieve the desired effect or results.

Can’t take you seriously about getting scammed by amazon companies while you sit in front of products by one of the most predatory MLM’s products.

So sold by Amazon is similar to buy it directly from the manufacturer. I don't trust Amazon supplements. What company do you suggest?

As a practitioner, I use a company called fullscript. It's an online dispensary for practitioners to offer to their clients in order to purchase premium supplements directly from the manufacturer at a discounted price. OR buy directly from the company's website!
