No wonder I feel the same annoyance towards everything today, I'm just in my late 20s. At least it taught me a very valuable lesson on microtransactions in games.
I remember playing Habbo Hotel during my high school years in the mid-2000s. I only played it because of the Goth Rooms since the goth scene was popular around that time. I had no idea until watching this video that Habbo Hotel was being used for gambling and scamming people.
16:54 The "pool's closed" blocking wasn't because 4chan thought the mods/owners were racists. It was because Habbo was seen as a terrible place. The character choice was done so, as you explain, when they were inevitably banned, they (and spectators) could pull out claims of racism as a way to mark the mods/owners as such (especially when it got to a point that avatars in that, or a similar, style got instantly banned).
That makes more sense. I had to do a double take when Slope said that 4Chan were offended at a game being racist. I mean, 4Chan... ya know, one of the most racist, rancid sites on the net.

Like my first interaction was with a Pokémon role playing group where everyone was either a trainer or a level 100 shiny charizard. Then I moved onto making mazes which I spent way too much money making. There’s also the thing that there were so many different Habbo hotels for different countries until they all merged together at some point. Then the video mentions coins but I remember the main currency were Habbo club sofas and thrones. Want the red parasol? It’s 5 sofas. Want a typewriter? It’s currently 3 thrones. Also on the note of coins they charged more to buy physical coins you can trade with. If you have 30 coins in your purse it’ll cost something like 32 to buy 30 worth of tradable coins.

Had a "wtf is he talking about?" moment when you mentioned Minecraft at the beginning, and then I remembered Bedrock Version exists and it's cashshopped to hell which is why i've never touched it and stuck to Java Version. Java version is still the game as it was meant to be before Microsoft got their live-service-ificating cash-shopifying claws into the IP and monetized the hell out of the other newer versions, and Mojang is doing its best to keep it that way by sacrificing the other versions to the monetization demons to keep Microsoft happy and off their backs. I feel bad for all the people who are stuck thinking that nightmare is what Minecraft is supposed to be like because they've never played the real game only the other versions.
I had a friend that had Habbo as a kid. One day he decided to get banned, so he starting saying a bunch of inappropriate things and trash talking. Which ultimately led too his foreseeable ban 😂. The crazy part was he got banned for like several hundred years. Which we both got a good laugh and played Wow.

I only knew of Habbo from its joke status and the linguistical pun (Habbo sounded like ass in Portuguese) and not too long later, the raids. It all sounded too silly.
The chat censorship reminds me of the crap over at VMK lol.
People on 4Chan thought that the game was racist and were outraged by that?
Well if that isn't the pot calling the kettle black (pun intended).
Great video nd i still have that complete Tazo set lol
I messed with this one a bit as a kid, but Coke Music / Coke Studios was the shizzzz.
I remember this, it's like the pre genator of Roblox
Habbo: Origins community is great bruv
Time to put my tux on and block some pools
This was the funniest shit to ever happen online.
I have been sent from the future to close the pool.
You remind me a little of Guru Larry and I enjoy that style.
It's like creators predicted this game would make them rich, which it's why they made it. And it's true, kids still haven't learned their lesson when selling those NFT tokens, if not, ask Sega selling some VIrtua Fighter tokens.
Did you spend 50k... oh wait wrong hotel
I seriously thought that... incident was gonna get referenced at 4:55 =P Yeah, but then I remembered this wasn't a recent vid.
