Unless I missed something, I don't recall Ed ever being addressed in the Roseanne reboot season or The Conners. The last time I remember him being mentioned in this original run was at Darlene's wedding, when Dan said he hadn't spoken to him in two years. I don't know how Ned Beatty is holding up these days, but would love to see Ed come back for an episode.

Dan's mother had a bad mental illness and it was later revealed that she was an unreliable narrator when telling Dan about how awful his father was. To be fair, Ed DID go on trips a lot, but it's not like he abandoned her. He did what he could to help her out whenever she'd have her psychotic meltdowns. And this was before Dan was even born. I'd say Ed is pretty noble for taking all the heat from Dan for years, just so he could hide Audrey's (Dan's mother) illness from his son. He's a good guy, just not a good family man. As for Crystal, she's a sweetheart imo But she was lonely and desperate for a partner, and Ed took advantage of this. They weren't meant to be together at all.
Always wondered if they created Crystal as a reference to Krystle of the worldwide known 1980s show Dynasty . When Roseanne started, Dynasty was in its last year and already a caricature of itself. Both characters were sterling, goody-shoe 2nd wifes, always nice and a bit naive. But maybe its just coincidence.
