    You pointed out one of the two best lines in the song, "I'm thinkin' Wilson's cousin, better find a place to hide". It's a veiled threat, but coupled with the best line in the song, cements the fact that Walter's brother is a stone cold badass. And the best line is "and five years later, I ain't told a soul." Wilson "bragged around town" and ended up tied to an anvil. Something very bad is gonna happen to Wilson's cousin, and if you paid attention, you KNOW its gonna happen.

    Every song this man has written sounds completely different . This song and North Dakota could be called redneck symphonies by the way the violin builds in volume to emphasize important points in the story. Amazing writer. His music will continue to gain in popularity as time go's on.

    Chris Knight is among the best at story telling and an expert lyricist; if not a good song writer he could be an excellent fiction writer.

    Chris' story and they way he presents it, leaves you wondering is this a confession of a true event or something he thought up. I live in Kentucky and on the Mississippi River, and this is the kind of folks you run into. They take care of matters themselves, like this. The law failed them so they took matters into their own hands. I'm sure there are other areas in the country that rural folks, if they don't get the justice they feel is needed, will take matters into their own hands. Again, especially in middle and eastern KY, you have hard working, no B.S. folks who just do things a bit different than the rest of the country, and you don't mess with them unless you want a war. They will give you a direct, honest answer and expect a direct, honest answer, but you mess with someone's family, you've started a war, whether you want one or not!

      I'm from Florida, but after living on the TN/KY line, I've seen and heard things that ring true with this story. Tit for tat feuds are so damn common. In fact my roommate told me a story eerily similar to this song, and i never really had want reason to doubt him. Such sad stories, but i guess that's just our nature as humans.

    My guess at this song is a bit different. He talks about 5 years later and not wet a line. After killing Wilson at age 18 he took off and pulled a hitch in the Marines and an extra year with a contractor (KBR, Triple Canopy...). Now he knows a lot more he will be looking for Wilson's cousin. And had the thought in the back of his head about what he did every time the Drill Instructor yelled about killing.

    Excellent review!! I love how you described the violin. It’s haunting, but beautiful. I suggest Cowboy Junkies song,”To Love Is To Bury”. To me, it’s the most beautiful arrangement I’ve heard, in my 66 years. Another great ballad is “Lights Of Loving County”, by Charlie Robison. One more sad ballad, is “Broken Window Serenade”,, by Whiskey Myers. I think you’ll appreciate the Music, and the stories.👍😎

    You might check out his first two albums, Trailer Tapes, 1 & 2. They are only him and a guitar. I find his songs and style to be much better suited to that format. I don't care as much for his studio work or with a band. He is a strange blend, with the sound, and language, of a Kentucky coal miner's son...blended with ability to create Shakespeare level tradedy and irony. That contrast really appeals to me. Those are very much his best work... imho.

    No offense but 13 minutes and the only significant comment was speculating this is some cryptic message about going to prison?

    • @RockN2Country
      @RockN2Country  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Nick Landry Sometimes that's what happens when doing true reactions. I don't pre-listen to songs to get a head start on my reactions, and I don't look at the lyrics, either---they're genuine reactions. If I have ideas I share them, if I don't, which is rare, I don't. If I'm confused I say I'm confused--pretty simple and nothing made up. Reacting to videos is a funny thing, and it's not unique to me, since other reactors deal with it, too---say too much and people tell us to STFU, say too little and someone might take exception to that, too. You're the first person to comment that I say too little, so I suppose not all reactions are going to work for everyone. Sometimes people love my comments but hate the song, other times they love the song and don't like my comments. C'est la vie.

    • @kcrsradio
      @kcrsradio 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@RockN2Country Fair enough. As a huge CK fan, I have listened to this song literally dozens of times and never once has your "prison" angle crossed my mind. As we all know, there's no right or wrong interpretation of any song (or piece of any art for that matter). I just thought it was a curious take, that's all. C'est le vie indeed!

    • @RockN2Country
      @RockN2Country  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Nick Landry There are still Led Zeppelin songs that I've been listening to my whole life that I still have no clue what the lyrics are! Funny thing is, I have friends who were HUGE Zeppelin fans back int he day, and recently they said the same thing, that some of the songs they don't even know what the heck Plant is saying. Every so often a song will come down the pike that takes a few listens, and if there's any genre that seems to do that more than others, it's country. Some of these songwriters go so deep, and use words in such creative ways, that I'm always looking to see if there's a double entendre or an expression that changes the meaning of what I'm hearing. Add to this that I'm doing it on camera while listening to a song for the first time, and I'm gonna look pretty dumb sometimes. Kinda goes with the territory. But usually I pick up on things, and as I've grown with the channel I'm learning which artists have a tendency to do some brilliant things with words and which artists are more linear.
