    I love my DA Vinci masestro brushes in different sizes. They really keep the point. Happily I own three brushes each of the other two brands you mentioned. I am glad that I am on the right track. Thank you for your opinion. I've only been painting with watercolor for a year. As for being able to paint much better using these brushes, I fear I am the one holding my brushes back. I painted landscapes in oils and florals on porcelain containers. I did this for 15 years, but I always wanted to tackle watercolor. I got tired of taking so much time cleaning my brushes and it taking almost a year to let it cure before putting on the finishing touch to help make the painting come alive and then hence, I had to wait 9 months to sell my art. Watercolor is a different animal for sure.

    Raphael SoftAqua line of brushes are also great for watercolours. They are soft and deliver water/paint evenly with amazing holding capacity. Love painting with them. Thanks for the review. 👍🏼

      I own a bunch of Raphael softaqua mini brushes and they are a staple in my urban sketching/plein art kit!!! I get them locally at my art store for $4-$10 per brush

    I use both Rafael and Winsor & Newton - they both perform astonishingly with a slight personal preference at Winsors - can't really point the reason why, but they feel better and give away paint a bit better than Raphaels.
    May be a specific batch qualities tho, because it's all natural hair after all ;)

    Raphael synthetics are amazing for their price level. My money is on their Precision synthetic sable line, great for gouache.

    I just discovered your channel and have watched a few of your videos already and have subscribed!
    The Escoda Versatil brushes are AMAZING for those who want to avoid animal hair brushes or just don't want to spend the money on them. I have seen comparisons on TH-cam and while I do believe that animal hair brushes are a "pleasure to use", the Escoda Versatils are almost just as good for a fraction of the cost and they are vegan. :) In my opinion if you're after a synthetic/vegan brush, look no further than Escoda Versatil. :D

    I absolutely agree with you but there are other lesser known brands that do the same thing as da Vinci (my favorite), there are some Chinese top brushes, Royal Talens professionals (black squirrel, which I am currently working with and very happy with), I also use calligraphy from white goat hair-to stretch colors are perfect. Greeting.

    I have two Escoda Reserva brushes and I’m honestly really disappointed with them. They fray and don’t keep a point when wet and I’ve only used them a few times. I was hoping they’d perform better considering how expensive they were.

    • @penpencilpaint
      @penpencilpaint  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      hi there~ yes, they do that sometimes, i also bought size 10 two times and size 8 in travel and all of them had the same problem. gladly i had all mine refunded, i think there was a certain period of time they produce had some issues : (((

    Nice review and demo, though I've decided to buy synthetic approximations from now on. My Escoda Versatil/Perla/Prado-s are doing well, Ultima not so much, as it doesn't keep a good point and holds too much water. Now I am looking for opinions/reviews/demos on da Vinci Casaneo, so if anyone can advise, I'd be grateful.

    • @penpencilpaint
      @penpencilpaint  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi , thanks for the comment, i am not sure if i can do a casaneo brush review since for some reason, it is hard to find an artstore on/off line who sells casaneo in my country….. : ( but i will di a review in future if i can get one : ) have a great day~ : )

    • @penpencilpaint
      @penpencilpaint  ปีที่แล้ว

      i believe series 11 is thicker than 10. (bigger belly) i havn’t tried it actually, but i bet it will be better than 10 since it can hold more water : ))

    Please, which DA Vinci brush has the best control, for sketching/illustration work (Not for classic watercolor painting, just sketching on A5 size paper)?

    • @penpencilpaint
      @penpencilpaint  ปีที่แล้ว

      hi there, i dont know how to answer this in clear way,
      first, the kolinaky sables tends to be more soft and have better water control,
      synthetics are more firm? has more tension but slightly less water capacity. for just casual paint, synthetics will do its job well ( like casaneo from da vinci or versatil from escoda). best control on da vinci? i would have to say maestro. but casaneo will also do its jon just fine. for synthetics, i think escoda versatil is the best.

    Love Escoda beyond measure however da Vinci has always let me down, inconsistently bad to worse brushes. Frayed hairs. Terrible point, or none at all. Etc. One of my biggest money pits was giving da Vinci what, Maybe 4 or 5 chances now? Gah. But Escoda oh yesss. Worth every penny omg

    • @penpencilpaint

      hi there, i feel really bad you had only bad experiences w daVinci because i know how expensive they are : (

    Thanks for the recommendations! I got 3 Raphael and a Maestro 35 since you made this video. I didn't expect the snap that the Raphael 8404 & 8408 have! I was also blown away,with the Raphael 803 Quill mop n4 ! These brushes are so well balanced, precision and control is superb! Da Vinci Maestro 35 n6,was slightly bigger than I thought Finish looks better,however,the Raphael handles provide better balance which adds a bit to precision. Probably the best of the best brushes,can't say which 1 is better!!

      just giving u additional info, raphael bristle were bery soft, slightly softer than reserva or maestro… just letting u know my personal experience, but it is really superb, when u paint, sometime i feel like the brush itself is painting on its own, since they tend to gather up to a point very smoothly and well. : )
