I can't get over how much I love the theme song. Hearing that song at the beginning of each episode always improves my mood. It's fantastic! The rest of the podcast is good too, I guess.
I remember my best self-righteous moment, the time a manager asked me if I'd paid for my drink. I said YES so emphatically that he in a very apologetic tone explained that people had been seen with outside drinks in the establishment. Felt so good to have someone immediately get off my back.
I would get caught up in the "I don't want to clean up after other people" mindset before I could get to the "I could clean this up myself." I live on the first floor of an apartment building and sometimes people upstairs just chuck their empty bottles and drink cups over the railing on to the lawn, out of sight, out of mind. Then those of us on the first floor can see their trash clearly.
"A parade is a parade in a small town, and l've no idea why that's exciting to people still." For me, it's because each town I've been to only had one annual parade. It's literally not every day you see a parade, and that's why it's exciting.
The smaller the town is, the more likely it seems that everybody in town would turn up for the parade. It's always exciting when everyone turns up at the same place at the same time with intent, whether it's a block party or the french revolution.
It's basically impossible not to want some kind of recognition or reward for good acts, especially when they're sacrificial in any sense. So long as you're not doing it soley or mainly for the rewards, it's still good. You can't beat yourself up for being human, we all feel like we should get more breaks if we do more work. The fact is, these kinds of doubts we have about ourselves can discourage us from doing the right thing and it's pretty clear that plenty of people don't do the right thing. You have to give yourself credit, because usually you don't get the just deserts of instant karma. All the same, you deserved to feel a bit smug in this scenario, it's surely the reason feelings like that exist. I think it still matters why we choose to be good people, I just think it's unavoidable to occasionally feel superior to those who don't.
sorting your own trash at home eliminates garbage sorting as a profession. It's big landfill propaganda trying to save a few bucks. As union members it's also very anti-worker behaviour. Never do work for free when a company should be paying someone to do it.
Daniel just being a nice dude deflates someone wanting to be an asshole is so wholesome and the change I wanna be in the world
I only found out about this podcast about a week ago. My two Cracked favorites. And I have such a nice backlog to go through!
Have fun!

Have you checked out Me Rex? They're so good.
"I could post this, it would do well, but it will hurt my brand." is such a funny thought but I think to a point we all do that.
I wonder what my brand is

The garbage story reminds me of that Louis C.K. bit where he stands outside his building and a neighbor asks him if he’s allowed to be there

As long as you're reasonably sure it will hit earth, I think it's perfectly fine to chuck an apple or other fruit out the window.
