I took my oldest son there last year & he was blown away. Its an amazing collection but also very sad.
You should do the underground hospital & the German occupation museum both a fantastic insight to life on the island back in the occupation.

my dad was there f the whole of the war
He played his saxophone and kept the moral up what’s the island
Not enough stories were told by him
    So many more to tell
    Now he’s gone
It’s good to have places like that to remember
Was it a sad feeling you felt Ross ?
    Was it proud?
    Was it amazement?
    All of the above ?
Anyway, thank you for that video
    I’m there in September
And yes, I’m gonna go xx

Hi, I felt a mix of emotions. The history and atmosphere were very moving, and while it was sobering and made me feel reflective, I also felt a sense of respect and admiration for the stories and artifacts preserved there. It was a powerful experience. I’m sure you will find it very interesting when you visit 😀

i always understood the tunnels were an underground hospital unless there is another one on one of the islands I am confusing it with?

Thank you for this view of the military museum. I became intersted in Guernsey while watching 2 mini series, Enemy at the Door and Island at War, which showed some of what the German occuption was like during that time. Guernsey is such a beautiful island and I am happy you have this channel to show us, who will likely never travel there, life in your community. Cheers from British Columbia, Canada. PS - however, if I win a lottery I just might travel there.

Thanks for this Ross. I visited in the 70s, it felt very eerie. It must have been a terrible time to live through for everyone. Yes a very weird atmosphere.

Visited some years ago, the big red tank was one of many in there, thousands of gallons of fuel for U boats, also when it was opened up, I think in the 80's, the place had a lot of stored Torpedoes, again ready to re-arm Uboats and E boats in Havlet bay. Is the museum under St Saviors church still open???? that was in the caves under the church, but was mainly vehicles and big guns

I visited this mesium last year, it's a vast vast vast collection and very interesting, My Grandfather and family had to evacuate during the war as he was a mainlander working there for 15 prior to invasion, he was on the harbour when it was bombed, I still have at home a couple of German bayonets and daggers my dad found after their return, when they did eventually return their entire house was looted and my Grandmother often spoke of see items of their futniture in so called friends houses.

My father-in-law, to be, stayed on the Island and was co-opted into the Island Police. He had lots of stories to tell. He features in the book I Beg to Report. Thanks for the visit Ross. Does this mean that the original Museum is no longer there - we visited the original on our visits home.
