  • Ok so the title is not exFound! A Valuable Hot Wheels Collection Lost in a Boston Basement! Part 1 of 3 #hot wheels #redline
    Ok so the title is not exactly accurate but it is catchy! Everyone tells me I needed to spice up my titles to get more views. I have been spoiled over the last 2 months as my channel has “blown up” with 3 to 4 times more views and a thousand new subscribers. Thank you!
    This collection came from a guy near Boston who had been keeping his childhood collection safely tucked away at home. He contacted me because I can easily be found on Google and TH-cam. We made a deal on Saturday and the collection arrived on Wednesday.
    I have been on the internet since that was possible back in the early 90’s. eBay since May 1998, and my TH-cam channel is over 8 years old.
    Check out what I have for sale at www.ToyCarCollector.com Thanks for watching and supporting my channel. --- Music Credit: Cipher / Dispersion Relation / Aces High Funkorama by the fantastic Mr. Kevin MacLeod who is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (creativecommon...)

    I started collecting redlines last year, now I've got 120+ nice examples. My uncle had an Olds 442 on his shelf, among others. He told me to pick out two, one for my friend (who has an EXTREMELY NICE collection of 55 cars) and one for me. I was told to give the most valuable to my friend. Needless to say, he got the 442, and I got a blue Hot Heap.

    My first hot wheels were the metle flake lime green HOT HEAP with a white interior, and a metel flake purple Dodge Charger, w/ black interior.
    I got 'em at the age of six, on the Christmas of 1969
    They came with the duel side by side race track.
    They wete the envy of my two older brothers 😅
    The practically played with 'em more than I did (lol)

    Hot wheels were played with by Boomer kids who were getting too old for toys by the early 70’s and were getting into girls and real cars. I’m Gen X and my childhood cars were mostly 71 through 77 with a few of the earlier cars thrown in that were still on the shelves. I didn’t have any of the good early Customs as they weren’t available any longer. It was dismal having the 73 and later cars as they were slow on the track and just didn’t look as good. The tampos that came on the 74’s helped but they were even slower. I spent years looking for the early cars with zero success until I found the adult collecting world at the Redline Convention in 92 in Seattle.

      Must have seen you there in Seattle, one of the 5 Redliner Magazine Conventions. Chris JeRue was the head honcho of that group.

      I've been buying collections for over 30 years and I can tell you that almost all collections offered are only cars from 67 to 71. Mid-70's are rarely included. So they are hard to get.

    I wonder what the reasons are people have to sell such a great collection. Those cars are superb.

    • @toycarcollector
      @toycarcollector  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They sell because they found or knew they had them in the closet and have little interest in them. And when they find out they can get thousands of dollars for what should be of little value they jump for joy! Imagine you went down to the basement and opened a box and found your Red Sox Bobble head from 1968 and went on line to find out their were collectors willing to pay you $5,000 or more! Wouldn't that be great!

    Were about the same age…was 6-7 years old when they came out…so I’m guessing when I was 11-12 I changed hobbies/priorities and started riding our bicycles….is there any cars that you don’t have or colors of a car that you have been chasing?… keep up the great work 👍🙏❤️

    Yeah, I was heading into high school by 72-73. I’d packed my Hot Wheels in a shoe box (wrapped in tissues) by Junior High. I still have 11 of them and filled with a 442 several years ago.

    I read somewhere that rolls royce agree to let hot wheels make their car as long as it was grey. hot wheels deviated by making them in color and RR said they would pull copyright if hot wheels didnt quit the other than colors.

      Mine was teal with a flat black roof

    • @toycarcollector
      @toycarcollector  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is interesting and also believable. Silly though because the Rolls can be very beautiful in colors.

  • @corvairjim1
    @corvairjim1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I remember mamy of these from my own childhood. As I watched them being in unwrapped, I thought back to the ones I had and what color mine were. A few were spot-on, like the lime gold Nomad, one of my favorites. My 442 was what I've heard was one of the rarest - purple. My son destroyed that one once when he was ticked off at me. He flattened it with a brick on the sidewalk out front, along with a couple dozen others. My red '57 T-Bird, teal '68 T-Bird, brown Light My Firebird, chrome Hot Wheels Collector's Club Heavy Chevy and Boss Hoss... damn.

    • @corvairjim1
      @corvairjim1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, and one more thing: I was one of what you say was a rare breed, in that I had a Maserati Mistral. Mine was purple. Not too good on the track because it was so narrow and lightweight. On the other hand, my big, heavy, pink (!) Seasider was a rocket!

    Which is more valuable redlines or super treasure hunts ? 🤔✌️

    • @toycarcollector
      @toycarcollector  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Those are two different hobbies. For me Redlines are priceless and Super TH are worthless. I rarely see TH's except at the conventions. Guys love them for the hunt. You can hunt Redlines on the boards or on eBay but that would be buying close to retail. You can't really hunt out good deals on Redlines, they are out there but the sellers with childhood collections have to find you. Bottom line if you love something and lots of other people do to then that stuff will be valuable.

    How much did you pay for this collection?

    • @toycarcollector
      @toycarcollector  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A gentleman never tells! Thanks for asking. I can tell you this buying a collection today is not like the past. Sellers have eBay to look things up and what they usually see is a bunch of silly high prices for junk. So first you have to help them to find the "sold" prices and not the asking prices. Then you have to compete against all the other collectors, some of them will pay retail or more. For me I don't mind paying retail prices for cars I want for myself but I'm not paying retail prices for the commons and lesser condition stuff. There has to be "meat on the bone" for me. I have been buying and selling over thirty year so my reputation is important to me so I do have to be very fair with everyone. Redlines are a tight knit community and I like to be liked. Thanks!
