Taken my bike on hols this year. French roads are a different breed to the shoddy ones back home. Can only begin to imagine how sweet that bike is on french roads. Went to the Liverpool store and saw this beauty first hand. Looks to be a semi realistic bucket list bike.
Good to get a 'down to earth' view on the bike. I'm in market for a new ride now and this made my shortlist but you've described some of the reasons I didn't go for it (specifically the RCR Pro Ultegra) - I was concerned about comfort and refinement and also some of the components like bars (size choice limited and no one-piece option), tyres and saddle not great. Finally the paint options are currently none existent. I'm going with Madone SLR7 which is more expensive but ticks every box for me.
Definitely, the spec is class for the price and they ride very well. Would go get your hands on one down at a shop if you can and get a feel for it. I was pleasantly surprised when I first got to see them in the flesh
Your videos always come up on my tik tok and honestly ur one of my fav creators who pops up. Started getting into cycling cause of ur stuff and love it ❤🙌🏻
Shimano FDs are great. You should be able to do 52/34 on your chainrings by just swapping the small ring to 34. It's not recommended by Shimano, but it works. Then 34/34 and you can stay in zone 2 up most climbs. Decathlon shouldn't sell 11-30 cassettes on these bikes, but they probably got them for cheap. There's no good reason to run that instead of 32 or 34, as the spacing is virtually the same until the last few cogs.
I do run 52-34 instead of 36 and there is a noticeable difference : under load it just does not work as well or even drops the chain or stick it to the frame. I do keep this setup BUT it needs to be said: it's "works" if you know to power down under chainring shift, but it's not foolproof.
Great vid as usual Dan. Cheers for your insights on the chainring/ cassette sizes, really helpful for those doing more and more climbing like myself ;)
You’ve made an interesting point ..you said on the higher spec bike that didn’t have such low gears, that you were getting a PB on every hill, so I’m curious why you would think of swapping it for the 11-34 cassette if the one that was already on it was giving you a PB each time.
Based on the video he said although he was getting over hills in record speed it came at the expense of his heart rate and in turn energy levels which isn’t ideal on longer rides
👆 exactly that. Even in the lowest gear I was having to put down more power than I could comfortably sustain on longer climbs. So I was getting up them faster but it was rinsing me so later in the day I would hit a wall.
cos he's very capable of managing it but not at Zone 2. Have heard a couple people go up to 54 on the front with this bike and down a frame size. I currently run 52 and 28 on the back and a 32 on the old TCR. Looking forward to the RCR having 34 on the back! It's because of this and the integrated bars on the AG2R i've been trying to buy the Team Replica but is always out of stock. The team bike is 11/34, a few hundred grams lighter but thousands extra in price!
If you go abroad with your bike, don't go tubeless. Because of cabin pressures on aircraft, you have to let the tyres down. Sealant all over the inside of your case and need of a powerful pump when rebuilding. Roads in Europe are generally better so fit either TPU tubes or latex plus spares. Thanks for the info regards the Van Rysel.
@@chasbikeravda3933 just take 20psi out of each. No leaks, no issues. Thats flying 2-3 times each year with tubeless and sealant for the last 5 years (except 2020 for the lockdowns)
You could be right actually. Decathlon are defo French, but I saw 'Van Rysel' is Dutch for 'in Lille', which is where Decathlon's main cycling HQ is based
Yes, french brand, created by Decathlon, which is also French. They use a Dutch name meaning "from Lille" as Lille is where the brand was born, and is the Capital of the French Flanders.
Get some 30mm or 32mm tyres on there mate you wont regret it, faster, smoother, better cornering and more comfortable nothing to lose 👌🏼 what do you make of the van rysel cycling shoes?
Another great video Dan.... such a lovely bike. Im curious, did you have to fit an rear derailleur hanger extension for the bigger gears or did it fit with the need to?
If you were buying yourself as an average cyclist looking to upgrade but not go crazy would you chose the RCR or the RCR pro at £1200 more expensive? Ps just found your channel and it’s ace 👌👌
Probably the base. Thats still more than enough bike for 99% of riders. Pro just has the better performing, lighter and stiffer frame for if you want to get the most out of racing etc
@@Daaaanjj last question. Sizing suggesting large for me as I am right on the top of medium frame size and bottom of large. What height are you and what frame did you go for?

Why'd you switch from SL8 and how does it compare to it especially in the comfort department?
Just been catching up on your last few vlogs - really enjoy your stuff - keep up the good work 🤙🏻
Awesome, thank you!
Nice bike, slit in the seat definitely helps reduce pain on the winky.
Definitely, makes a big difference to comfort levels
Looks like a weapon, will definitely keep my eyes on one for the future 👌

Thanks mate. No need for the hanger extension here, they did add a new chain though and have to index the gears a little
32s are nice, no watt penalty either - and more comfy 🚲🚲
Could be the move 🫡
but only on proper inernal riw width for non aero penalty

What is max tyre clearance on both RCR and RCR PRO?
believe it’s 32mm on the RCR Pro and 35mm on the base RCR models

my mistake, I saw Van Rysel means 'from Lille' in Dutch so assumed they were a Dutch brand based out of Decathlon's cycling HQ
