Honestly I throw a berringer x32 rack in there. You are growing and with the x32 and the cat6 remote snake you can tuck the rack in a corner in the back and run the x32 off a iPad or android tablet. Plus it gives you 32 channels of input for larger events or concerts you might do

Hey, just a heads up don’t but the usb version of the mg12 I have the mg10xu and it has an extreme amount of usb noise that shows up in the usb audio input, it comes in and out extremely frequently and it’s not worth it. Just letting you know. I regret buying the mixer now but just a heads up

    • @simascalka
      @simascalka 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

kevin turner well I think he doesn’t really need the x32, he mostly plays at weddings and party’s. x32 is more for larger stages and bands that require effects delay’s- more advanced stuff. Also as I’ve seen he uses active JBL’s srx and similar product line

Few things that i may consider doing differently,
    1. Why not put the furman on top of everything, this way you can use the pop-up lights for the mixer controls
    2. Why not use angled XLR connectors on the mixer to save some space
    3. Why don't you use some 2U or 3U rack drawers instead of plastic containers, looks way mor clean
    Nice setup though...stay safe, cheers

      4. Use locking power cables to the mixer and driverack.
      5. Puting power and signal in/out on the Same please so you can make combi cables with signal and power to the dj set and speakers

When building racks, lay the rack down on its back. The gear will then hang in place, and you can organize the gear easily without having to screw any of it down. Then flip it over on its front to do the wiring.
(and when using two screws, use the bottom two)

  • @techwiz09
    @techwiz09 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Hey Rick, I've loved seeing you grow over the years. A couple thoughts came to mind:
    1) Might want to add something heavier to the bottom of the rack, because it seems a bit top heavy and could tip while rolling. Although you're using powered speakers, might be beneficial to have an amplifier at the bottom of the rack.
    2) Rather than bins, might want to put in a couple of drawers to keep things organized.
    3) Use right angled connectors on the mixer to reduce stress on cables and clear up some space.
Been loving the content and looking forward to seeing you grow!

Great video. Suggestion move your patch ports behind the Dbx so you don't need any extra cords. They also sell a rack mount power strip with extenders to plug in to your fermin. Maybe a port for your Donner dongle on the patch piece, so no obstruction for signal. Great job. You have great ideas.

  • @DJILLEE

Really like the component choices. For me, this rack would be too large. It would probably fit into an 8u but that’s really just personal taste. I’d also put the power conditioner on top so the lights shine on the mixer. The only other suggestion would be to put your stereo input from the dj mixer into one of the 1/4” trs stereo channels on the yamaha. One fader, one eq and it’s designed for line level.

Thanks for the heart Rick. I was talking to a DJ pal I've known since 1981 yesterday and asked him if he watched your video's and he said yes. My first amp rack was in 1979 and I built it in my garage from 1/2" MDF board and painted it with flat black rustoleum. Had a Phase Linear 400 in it and Heathkit electronic crossover - I don't remember what else. Did have a PVC receptacle in the top of it. Piece of 1-1/4" PVC fit into it. I took that piece of 1-1/4" sch 40 PVC and heated the end and formed into a question mark. Put a mirror ball motor on the top and hung a 12" mirror ball from the amp rack pole mount.
Anyway, my point here is that some of us mix, some MC, some do video, and some design/build. It's interesting watching you on your journey. Takes me back in a good way to the good parts of building and learning.
There are always haters, naysayers and self-ordained keyboard experts out there - disregard that for what it is - it never goes away. Good thing Thomas Edison & Walt Disney didn't listen to them - or General Dynamics when we built the F-16. :)
PS: Now I own 50,000 watts of Crown's & JBL Vertec's in the main PA and another 10KW for the DJ system.
Been testing the Chauvet XpressRack-1024 and really like it. It will be perfect for the wireless uplights. Haven't figured out what the 4x "Zones" are used for yet?

You might get some more space if you turn the sliding shelf upside down like you did the shelf at the bottom. As others have mentioned though, right-angle XLRs could be beneficial as well, especially since they are only coming from the back of your case. I do wonder about the use of the PowerCon connector vs. using regular Edison plugs, but I suppose that is a personal preference. If you are going to be transporting this to and from gigs, I highly recommend that you install the rest of the rack screws. If you do decide to only use two screws, however, I recommend using the bottom screws rather than the top screws. It holds the equipment more securely. Thanks for showing your rig!

    • @maxanddad1

True. Yeah we use them a lot for the custom trailers we do. We did one for Tim Mcgraw (not a country music fan but still cool to do) not to long ago. Had to wire his mobile gym he takes on tour. We have another one to do for him but not sure if it's still gunna happen with all this going on now. But yeah, bins would be easier to take out never thought about that.

I’m new to rackmount equipment compared to just a home theatre receiver all in one amplifier.

I used to wheel around cases like this but venue size .. and gig style meant I had a ton of money sat in equipment I used maybe once a month. Now I just use a component PA which suits everything from a small bar to a thousand people outside. I use a digital mixer (very compact and can even piggy back the built in Wi-Fi to run my DMX) and most of the outboard gear in soft bags. For a small gig .. all of it, including lighting, fits in a station wagon and I only need a trailer for bigger venues. Personal choice I suppose but most of the time I work alone and all these big cases are just not practical.

I made the giant one for my big DJ booth. It takes a while to make it. It's not hard if you have carpentry skills. But cost wise unless your making a super large one it cost the same to just buy a pre built one. I priced out making this 18u case and it cost the same to just buy it already made

Doesn’t those big racks kill your back loading then up into the van or onto a raised stage? I built mine year ago to be modular with a patch panel on top of every rack so nothing ever goes more than 8u and those were amp racks which are almost never used. But even so if you use one rack manufacturer - everything just stacks clean and you can be nice and modular. My current project is breaking down the old coffins into separates that can just sit on a table.

    Question !!!???
Do the connectors have to be mounted in the rackmount from the front or from the back. I always mount them from behind. Then everything works properly.
And they are easy to change or move.
In the industry I see both ways. I wonder what you think of it?

    • @DJRickWeb

    • @martindevet2250

      @@DJRickWeb
I'm not sure about that, because it is mounted from behind within various professional equipment.
If, for example, search for audio snakes, you see that they are also mounted in different ways. this also applies to various you tube videos. In the Netherlands I see that both ways are used. It looks cleaner when there mounted from behind. (even in the Bunn dj booth ;) ) And it a lot easyer to replace them.
The last think i`m curious about, is why they sent you al pre wired connect, that you have to take apart to install.?
For example this is a Dutch proffecional company that makes audio rack panel, and everthing is connected from behind. shop.sommercable.com
I`m not telling you doing it wrong, but it is maybe a eye opener, to do it the another way.
      Love your video:

Also, does it plug straight into your computer or can it stand alone with a router and an iPad? I'm tired of using my obey 40 and having to manipulate it.
    2. I have an original dbx drive rack from my band days. Should I use it or get the new one?
