He tries to get her to crawl or do things her way to build “street-smarts”. MJ reads a lot of books to Ruda and explains everything thoroughly, building Ruda’s intellect, logical deduction and language skills, building her “Textbook-smarts”. It’s a beautiful system they have, splitting the roles so that Ruda can learn to differentiate and associate certain skills to each parent.
