Why do you think the first thing she does in the A-support is apologize? She clearly regretted saying those things to Byleth, and how she'd treated him thus far. Even more so when he was supposedly dead for five whole years after the fall of Garreg Mach and that B-Support was the last thing she ever said to him.
She would have been so much a better character if in her B support she admits that's she's angry slash jealous with you bevause when she met Jeralt she was a born poor commoner but he gave her a chance to have meaning that her life had meaning and purpose other than being a commoner thanks to him and that all she has ever done is try to repay that debt to her mentor but now that he is gone she doesn't know what to do and she was only mad at you because you never really showed signs of emotion Jeralt gave her a reason to live just like how he gave you life itself and she just felt like you didn't appreciate him like a father or mentor but then admits she had never seen you so sad and just wants to help you avenge your father. The person who gave the both of you a reason to keep striving or something like that

As a unit, I’ll admit Leonie is very good. However, her obsession with this one-sided rivalry over who is Jeralt’s better student between Byleth and herself is very unhealthy, and her B-Support conversation could have honestly been better-timed than the first day of the next month after Jeralt was murdered right in front of Byleth. Honestly, the B-Rank kind of killed any real potential romance of the two, to the point that after the timeskip, I had her as Byleth’s “little sister”.
I hate how in other supports between her and other characters we get to see more to her, but with Byleth it's 100% about your dad all the way through. It'd be fine if it was just the C support, but having it be all of them is way too much.

Whatever one thinks of the rest of this, one noteworthy detail is that she notes that Byleth canonically got their accepting nature and tendency to take people as they are from their dad. Like Jeralt seemed so glad to just HAVE a kid even if they're a tad unusual, and Byleth defs carried on that same attitude towards their students, especially the house leaders who, for differing reasons, were all in dire need of some ol' good acceptance.
It's kinda funny if you think about it, Jeralt grooming Leonie to be his kid's wife so that Rhea can't. "Leonie I'm counting on you to stop my kid from marrying that crazy bitch Rhea x_x" ~Jeralt's last thoughts

Yeah. In a game filled with fantastic support conversations, this one felt rather...average. Not awful, but far from great. I was considering S ranking her when I got around to my Golden Deer playthrough, but I definitely won't now.
I’ve seen a lot of Leonie’s supports, and honestly, these felt like some of her weakest ones (which really disappoints me considering that the concept of a man’s child interacting with his apprentice is interesting to me. She’s all about Jeralt with Byleth’s supports, but she’s able to stray away from that top pic in several other supports, or at least not get super sensitive)
Leonie is voiced by Ratana (English version) who lent her voice to two video game characters: Lianshi in Dynasty Warriors and Ishtar in Fire Emblem Heroes.
Not to justify Leonie's actions in the B-rank, but I saw her lashing out in that support as her being unable to deal with the grief of Jeralt's death herself. As a result, she's taking it out on you. Given that she's one of the oldest students I don't think her arc should have dealt with her being immature about something, but at least it's better than Hana's "I hate you because you were kidnapped as a baby!" support. Leonie also tries her hardest to be independent, so I think that she was just scared of seeming vulnerable in her grief. Once again, not a justification of her actions and the support could have been better, but I see where they were coming from by writing it this way.

Like how a little kid would Idolize spiderman or smn. And the fact that she's capable but also fucking stupid is endearing to me. I married her in my 3rd playthrough, 1st time I married Bernie, 2nd I married Sylvain. Bernie always comes first
I have problems with the fact that they do hand wave the fact that byleth never met Leonie prior to the story. Byleth is older than Leonie so logically they would have seen each other. What happened to prevent this meeting I want to know. They gave us details about Bernadetta and Yuri, but not this.

She's really sweet in her supports with Ignatz, Bernie, Marianne, etc., and that combined with her post timeskip design is why I love her so much. It was enough to get me to forget the poorly-timed B-support.

God they did this character dirty. Her whole thing with being in student debt I feel was enough, then they pull a Camilla and Faye and make her obsessed with Jeralt and it really bogs down her character. Doesn’t help with the extremely bad timing on her Byleth B support and you such an awkward character in such a colorful cast of wonderful Deers.

You see I wouldn't have cared if you grinded her support convos and made it to B before his death and i would have been fine, she's just growing through this student sibling type shit and is getting mad and jealous, it's common, but no they specifically locked it untill after his death to make sure you actually felt those words when she told you off, that's why I didn't go for her, also it's alright that she's talking about good old dad with us as we shared the same teacher but she comes off as obsessed sometimes...lol
I'll be frank here. I didn't completely despise Leonie because of her B Rank. But the way they handled her B Rank was in terrible taste and could've been executed better. Instead of having that conversation locked out until AFTER Jeralt dies. Just do the conversation BEFORE he dies. And just say: "Oh sorry, you missed your chance to deepen this bond." if you unlock it after he dies. That way, people wouldn't have been AS pissed at her. Especially when she was much more understanding towards Byleth during the monastery exploration that very chapter. The way they do it here, they just make Leonie look like an uncaring bitch, especially since Byleth had the worst day of his life when Jeralt died and he spends nearly the entire month of January absolutely depressed. But I get why they do it here. They wanted to make a Peter Parker moment with his Uncle Ben. Uncle Ben was trying to tell Peter that although yes, you do have superpowers, you need to use them responsibly. But Peter, who only cared about using his newfound powers for personal gain, didn't listen and snapped at him. Then his Uncle Ben died before he could apologize for being an asshole. Which brings me to the A Rank in which Leonie had been carrying extreme guilt for five whole years, when Byleth was presumed dead, and the last thing she said to him was really mean, and didn't take his feelings into account. She'd been absolutely tortured by the fact if she was just nicer to him or at least knew what he was going through, it likely wouldn't have hurt that much. My point being: everybody says and does things they regret, but sometimes you don't realize how the things you say and do affects you or the people around you until it's too late.

She's actually pretty sweet outside of that one glaring personality fault. But some people will never let her live it down. And she looks really off in that head on image, when you can't see her nose. Huh. All of that could also describe Edelgard.

A lot of me always wonders how much of this is actually Leonie versus perhaps poor translation/interpretation of her Japanese dialogue because when she isn't talking about Jeralt, Leonie is actually a really cool character.
After seeing supports with other characters, I can say that Leonie's actually a really nice person and treats everyone fairly. I feel bad for saying this bc she really isn't that bad of a character and apologizes for her hostility towards you, but I just can't bring myself to like her because of how poorly executed her supports are with your character. I love the "rivals/enemies to lovers" trope, but it just doesn't feel like their relationships actually develops to lovers? Like idk it feels more platonic if anything :/
goddamn a+ she might get a ton of slack for jeralt this/jeralt that but during her C support the main takeaway that i got was the obvious subversion of her own expectations byleth not really feeding into the competitive nature is gold imo, going off of byleth's own history and generally the way jeralt talked to him about focusing on the battle more than likely fed into the way he doesn't really express emotions normally, and that's just from the prologue and part 1 info about byleth when they were a kiddo. not getting riled up or freaked out in the middle of combat is more than likely pretty useful since not being able to keep your cool would more than likely be bad, especially on a battlefield the contrast of leonie being excited for a small change in village life that, overall is pretty huge for her since the bandits were an issue for them that got dealt with effectively nailed jeralt down as a hero to her, so for her, seeing byleth always basically having a blank look on his face, even when her hero is speaking to him is a definite spark of anger, and i love that; jeralt gave her the means to make a change with her life and her being at garreg mach definitely shows she put in the effort to get there, so its obvious that it meant a lot to her she's basically looking at someone who had what she wanted, and "doesn't" appreciate it, the fact she doesn't understand that for byleth that was just every day life makes it better for me, she doesn't think they appreciate someone who basically helped her get the reigns to her own life in her hands, but on the flipside the person in question is just used to all of that and before their life at the monastery starts can't even properly express emotions people might see as normal the B support steps more towards why she admires him, and around the point she starts talking about advice is when her feelings get riled up again because she's staring at the person who she believes had what she wanted, it's clear it isn't just ''you were around him more so i hate you'' considering everything with alois, but it feels more like a jarring contrast to her from my point of view because byleth can't really express emotions properly, so when she starts blowing up about byleth not appreciating him at all its easy to forget that they don't exactly know about their situation, but its also easy to forget that leonie probably had a normal village life before this, and if anything that she's basically the "Villager" unit from a story perspective Normal life, unable to really stand up against the threat of bandits making life harder, the "Lord" or in this case Jeralt comes along, and feeds them a level up through basic knowledge, but instead of taking them along now, they just leave, that devotion sticks though and the unit continues to grow while probably still hearing about what the person/people who gave them a chance to change is doing for the people who probably just watched the supports w/o playing through the storylines with the characters, talking to them each month and hearing the stuff they have to say about the events currently going on definitely feeds more into the character than the supports can alone, she was basically breaking down after jer-bear got shanked so her having a special battle quote for monica was lit post timeskip, its easy to see that with actual experience she's managed to retain her enthusiasm but is definitely a lot more humble and experienced about things, she still remembers blowing up on byleth, which might seem odd but, taking into consideration that if you get that B support before jeralt dies, talk to her afterwards, and then everything with the timeskip happens, noone really saw or heard from byleth after that, they might've 'made up' because of situations and time afterwards, but considering her dedication to jeralt and what he told her just a bit before she died, it probably hit hard because most of everything fell apart after that and one of the last 'big' conversations she had with her mentors son was her blowing up on him and talking about how they don't appreciate them only for them to lose him directly afterwards to her, byleth had jeralt their whole life, so even if they didn't 'seem' to appreciate him at all, it still would've made sense that they just lost their parent, and for someone who can't normally express emotions, it probably didn't slip by that byleth was actually crying after jeralt died, which probably kicked her in the gut again i love this character and she's the battlewife each time because of that grand ol' arc of ''I'm gonna prove to myself that I'm better than this person'' to ''I'm going to protect this person to honor the promise of the person who gave me the method to protect myself'' to ''I want to be close to this person'' that doesn't change the fact its anime as all hell but *fuck* if it doesn't feel natural to me that she'd be trying to one up byleth constantly on the battlefield and then see that being better than somebody close to the person who means the most to you at the time isn't what matters, i just think its a shame when people take the supports as the only parts of the character instead of keeping up with the reasons in lore why they might act a certain way; that said i dont really vibe with edelgard despite understanding why she does what she does, just something about her feels off, i know she's willing to risk a lot for her dreams but the whole burnin' bernie gig and issues leading back to crests thing make it hard for me to like her thanks for coming to my ted talk

A EXPLANATION FOR WHY I CONSIDER SOMEONE BEST GIRL AND AN UNDERRATED CHARACTER FROM GD. Been replaying 3 Houses (Golden Deer route because it's the best one with Church in a close 2nd IMO) and I forgot how much I love the GD House! Everyone is cool/likeable!.... Besides Lorenz's haircut (seriously, who let that boy walk out with his hair like that!?) But I forgot how much I love Leonie (Best girl of 3 Houses)! She's cute, great design, great VA, and badass as hell! IK IK people will say "Jeralt" and whatever, I wanted to give a reason why i like her so much - Leonie is flawed as a person. However, that is what makes her so REAL! It really bothers me that people have to base her character all on what is hero worship (Not anything sexual! Dear lord!) and rivalry. Nothing wrong with either of those. Sure, perhaps her B support is ill-timed. Let's look at it from HER perspective shall we? Someone she looked up to and wanted to be like had just died! She feels Byleth had everything handed to them being Jeralt's child. While we never see Byleth's training with Jeralt, I highly doubt they never had to work hard to be a feared mercenary. Leonie gets her shit together by A support and admits she screwed up. Think about the timing here. B support was pre-timeskip. Byleth was gone for 5 years! That is an eternity to stew in your own guilt for saying such harsh things to someone who's father had just died. People overlook that more than anything else. That is why she genuinely apologizes by A support. Her declaration of protection is not simply to make up for her infamous B support. She literally tells Byleth that Jeralt asked her to watch over them if anything happened to him. I personally love flawed characters. Perfection is an illusion. I will admit Leonie is my ideal type of woman. Strong, independent, and not a horrible prissy stereotype. I'm not saying others in this game aren't candidates. Leonie is simply very flawed and very real. I sometimes don't have a filter myself. Which does tend to get me into trouble and guilt-ridden just like her. It seems I relate to her so much, that is why I love her as a character.

The person who gave the both of you a reason to keep striving or something like that

As a unit, I’ll admit Leonie is very good. However, her obsession with this one-sided rivalry over who is Jeralt’s better student between Byleth and herself is very unhealthy, and her B-Support conversation could have honestly been better-timed than the first day of the next month after Jeralt was murdered right in front of Byleth. Honestly, the B-Rank kind of killed any real potential romance of the two, to the point that after the timeskip, I had her as Byleth’s “little sister”.
Thats what i always say... if she was Byleth's sibling. Her character would make more sense.
I hate how in other supports between her and other characters we get to see more to her, but with Byleth it's 100% about your dad all the way through. It'd be fine if it was just the C support, but having it be all of them is way too much.

Whatever one thinks of the rest of this, one noteworthy detail is that she notes that Byleth canonically got their accepting nature and tendency to take people as they are from their dad.
Like Jeralt seemed so glad to just HAVE a kid even if they're a tad unusual, and Byleth defs carried on that same attitude towards their students, especially the house leaders who, for differing reasons, were all in dire need of some ol' good acceptance.
I could go on and on about how I feel about Leonie, but I'll just leave this here.

Yeah. In a game filled with fantastic support conversations, this one felt rather...average. Not awful, but far from great. I was considering S ranking her when I got around to my Golden Deer playthrough, but I definitely won't now.
I’ve seen a lot of Leonie’s supports, and honestly, these felt like some of her weakest ones (which really disappoints me considering that the concept of a man’s child interacting with his apprentice is interesting to me. She’s all about Jeralt with Byleth’s supports, but she’s able to stray away from that top pic in several other supports, or at least not get super sensitive)

Leonie is voiced by Ratana (English version) who lent her voice to two video game characters: Lianshi in Dynasty Warriors and Ishtar in Fire Emblem Heroes.
She's arguably one of the best voice in that hot mess Dynasty Warriors 9, and it clearly show that in FE3H she's excellent. DW9 was a directing mess.
Yeah but I think this game shows that she can be a great actress when given a better script and voice direction.
Not to justify Leonie's actions in the B-rank, but I saw her lashing out in that support as her being unable to deal with the grief of Jeralt's death herself. As a result, she's taking it out on you. Given that she's one of the oldest students I don't think her arc should have dealt with her being immature about something, but at least it's better than Hana's "I hate you because you were kidnapped as a baby!" support.
Leonie also tries her hardest to be independent, so I think that she was just scared of seeming vulnerable in her grief. Once again, not a justification of her actions and the support could have been better, but I see where they were coming from by writing it this way.
And with Hana it’s that same support until S-rank. It’s like “I hate you, I hate you, I still hate you, I love you.”

I have problems with the fact that they do hand wave the fact that byleth never met Leonie prior to the story. Byleth is older than Leonie so logically they would have seen each other. What happened to prevent this meeting I want to know. They gave us details about Bernadetta and Yuri, but not this.

I'll be frank here. I didn't completely despise Leonie because of her B Rank. But the way they handled her B Rank was in terrible taste and could've been executed better. Instead of having that conversation locked out until AFTER Jeralt dies. Just do the conversation BEFORE he dies. And just say: "Oh sorry, you missed your chance to deepen this bond." if you unlock it after he dies. That way, people wouldn't have been AS pissed at her. Especially when she was much more understanding towards Byleth during the monastery exploration that very chapter. The way they do it here, they just make Leonie look like an uncaring bitch, especially since Byleth had the worst day of his life when Jeralt died and he spends nearly the entire month of January absolutely depressed.
But I get why they do it here. They wanted to make a Peter Parker moment with his Uncle Ben. Uncle Ben was trying to tell Peter that although yes, you do have superpowers, you need to use them responsibly. But Peter, who only cared about using his newfound powers for personal gain, didn't listen and snapped at him. Then his Uncle Ben died before he could apologize for being an asshole.
Which brings me to the A Rank in which Leonie had been carrying extreme guilt for five whole years, when Byleth was presumed dead, and the last thing she said to him was really mean, and didn't take his feelings into account. She'd been absolutely tortured by the fact if she was just nicer to him or at least knew what he was going through, it likely wouldn't have hurt that much. My point being: everybody says and does things they regret, but sometimes you don't realize how the things you say and do affects you or the people around you until it's too late.
There are some things you just don't do. Kicking someone down when their parent has just died is one of those things.

I love the "rivals/enemies to lovers" trope, but it just doesn't feel like their relationships actually develops to lovers? Like idk it feels more platonic if anything :/

during her C support the main takeaway that i got was the obvious subversion of her own expectations
byleth not really feeding into the competitive nature is gold imo, going off of byleth's own history and generally the way jeralt talked to him about focusing on the battle more than likely fed into the way he doesn't really express emotions normally, and that's just from the prologue and part 1 info about byleth when they were a kiddo. not getting riled up or freaked out in the middle of combat is more than likely pretty useful since not being able to keep your cool would more than likely be bad, especially on a battlefield
the contrast of leonie being excited for a small change in village life that, overall is pretty huge for her since the bandits were an issue for them that got dealt with effectively nailed jeralt down as a hero to her, so for her, seeing byleth always basically having a blank look on his face, even when her hero is speaking to him is a definite spark of anger, and i love that; jeralt gave her the means to make a change with her life and her being at garreg mach definitely shows she put in the effort to get there, so its obvious that it meant a lot to her
she's basically looking at someone who had what she wanted, and "doesn't" appreciate it, the fact she doesn't understand that for byleth that was just every day life makes it better for me, she doesn't think they appreciate someone who basically helped her get the reigns to her own life in her hands, but on the flipside the person in question is just used to all of that and before their life at the monastery starts can't even properly express emotions people might see as normal
the B support steps more towards why she admires him, and around the point she starts talking about advice is when her feelings get riled up again because she's staring at the person who she believes had what she wanted, it's clear it isn't just ''you were around him more so i hate you'' considering everything with alois, but it feels more like a jarring contrast to her from my point of view because byleth can't really express emotions properly, so when she starts blowing up about byleth not appreciating him at all its easy to forget that they don't exactly know about their situation, but its also easy to forget that leonie probably had a normal village life before this, and if anything that she's basically the "Villager" unit from a story perspective
Normal life, unable to really stand up against the threat of bandits making life harder, the "Lord" or in this case Jeralt comes along, and feeds them a level up through basic knowledge, but instead of taking them along now, they just leave, that devotion sticks though and the unit continues to grow while probably still hearing about what the person/people who gave them a chance to change is doing
for the people who probably just watched the supports w/o playing through the storylines with the characters, talking to them each month and hearing the stuff they have to say about the events currently going on definitely feeds more into the character than the supports can alone, she was basically breaking down after jer-bear got shanked so her having a special battle quote for monica was lit
post timeskip, its easy to see that with actual experience she's managed to retain her enthusiasm but is definitely a lot more humble and experienced about things, she still remembers blowing up on byleth, which might seem odd but, taking into consideration that if you get that B support before jeralt dies, talk to her afterwards, and then everything with the timeskip happens, noone really saw or heard from byleth after that, they might've 'made up' because of situations and time afterwards, but considering her dedication to jeralt and what he told her just a bit before she died, it probably hit hard because most of everything fell apart after that and one of the last 'big' conversations she had with her mentors son was her blowing up on him and talking about how they don't appreciate them only for them to lose him directly afterwards
to her, byleth had jeralt their whole life, so even if they didn't 'seem' to appreciate him at all, it still would've made sense that they just lost their parent, and for someone who can't normally express emotions, it probably didn't slip by that byleth was actually crying after jeralt died, which probably kicked her in the gut again
i love this character and she's the battlewife each time because of that grand ol' arc of ''I'm gonna prove to myself that I'm better than this person'' to ''I'm going to protect this person to honor the promise of the person who gave me the method to protect myself'' to ''I want to be close to this person'' that doesn't change the fact its anime as all hell but *fuck* if it doesn't feel natural to me that she'd be trying to one up byleth constantly on the battlefield and then see that being better than somebody close to the person who means the most to you at the time isn't what matters, i just think its a shame when people take the supports as the only parts of the character instead of keeping up with the reasons in lore why they might act a certain way; that said i dont really vibe with edelgard despite understanding why she does what she does, just something about her feels off, i know she's willing to risk a lot for her dreams but the whole burnin' bernie gig and issues leading back to crests thing make it hard for me to like her

She's cute, great design, great VA, and badass as hell!
IK IK people will say "Jeralt" and whatever, I wanted to give a reason why i like her so much - Leonie is flawed as a person. However, that is what makes her so REAL! It really bothers me that people have to base her character all on what is hero worship (Not anything sexual! Dear lord!) and rivalry. Nothing wrong with either of those. Sure, perhaps her B support is ill-timed. Let's look at it from HER perspective shall we? Someone she looked up to and wanted to be like had just died! She feels Byleth had everything handed to them being Jeralt's child. While we never see Byleth's training with Jeralt, I highly doubt they never had to work hard to be a feared mercenary. Leonie gets her shit together by A support and admits she screwed up. Think about the timing here. B support was pre-timeskip. Byleth was gone for 5 years! That is an eternity to stew in your own guilt for saying such harsh things to someone who's father had just died. People overlook that more than anything else. That is why she genuinely apologizes by A support. Her declaration of protection is not simply to make up for her infamous B support. She literally tells Byleth that Jeralt asked her to watch over them if anything happened to him. I personally love flawed characters. Perfection is an illusion. I will admit Leonie is my ideal type of woman. Strong, independent, and not a horrible prissy stereotype. I'm not saying others in this game aren't candidates. Leonie is simply very flawed and very real. I sometimes don't have a filter myself. Which does tend to get me into trouble and guilt-ridden just like her. It seems I relate to her so much, that is why I love her as a character.

I just hate how she tries to act superior over Byleth saying that she’s Jeralt’s greatest apprentice. Byleth grew up with Jeralt over the 20 years, not just being his apprentice but also being a son/daughter. Leonie was with the guy for like what, a couple months or something. Fuck, I think even Alois spent more time with Jeralt lol.
She has a sweet side though, like her support with Marianne. She obviously cares about her friends but with Byleth, it just makes it seem all she wants to do is one up him/her.
