Hey Swiss just for information, on my company manuals, it says that config 3 landing on a 321 is not recommended because increases the tailstrike chances 😅 if you think about it it, makes sense, the speed difference between config 3 and FULL is only a couple of knots, but the lift difference is grater so to produce the same amount of lift, the angle of attack and pitch has to encreas thus increasing the tailstrike risk. We usually use Config 3 for fuel-saving, go around performance and in case of expected turbulence/windshaer on approach. If we need to use config 3 on an a321 is recommended to use as VAPP= Vls+10 to help tailstrike avoidance, another indication that normal Flap 3 is not the best choice for this aircraft.
@@fthnffwrfrg he basically meant that when using flaps full the wings generate more lift/more force upwards so to have the same amount of lift as an flaps 3 landing you dont have to pitch up as much and flaps 3 is only used for fuel effiency. I hope you understand
Airbus designed the flaps diffrently on the a321 for this reason. A320 has a single cowl flap system so it is only one piece going down from wing and not multiple like in boeing and airbus used it as the plane didnt need all the lift from a multi cowl system and landed just fine. but on the a321 they needed to find a way to make the plane be able to pitch less without needing to change the landing speed significantly so they added another cowl in the inboard flaps this made the plane acchieve more lift so to get same amount of lift on a normal landing you wouldnt have to pitch the plane as much reducing the risk for tailstrike. What swiss did is that he landed at almost stall speed ofcourse making the plane needing to use more pitch and being way to fast with the flaps 3 landing.
As a guy who's been flying for 26 years and now an A321 CA.. I can tell you that any competent pilot who actually understands aerodynamics should never come close to striking the tail on this plane. Also, flaps three is going to require more nose up on the approach.. aerodynamics 101.. You over flared on your landing, that was your problem.
aerodynamics 101: flaps full requires less nose up if speed is kept same. See more flaps more lift -> less angle of attack ? Am i missing something ? Doesn't matter what airplane...
Absolutely. I’ve only been a pilot for a couple years…and while I don’t fly the type, I agree completely. I’ve read the book, and by book I mean all the books you have to read plus actual training, and i honestly have no idea why he thought that it had a problem when really you just have to be a good pilot and fly the plane like it’s meant to be.
The A321 requires much more careful management of the attitude, on take off you are expected to lift the nose gear of the ground, get airborne, and only then increase the angle to the 13-17 degrees for the climb out(there is a specific way it’s called but I forgot the term I heard a pilot refer to it before), you basically treat it as a small wide body, in terms of handling, flaring on landing just comes with practice, you flare less than with the A320 obviously, you can still butterize any landing be it A318-A321, they are all really nice things to fly.
My only a321 was so smooth like you didn’t feel anything and he didn’t even do reverse thrust if you were in the middle you won’t even know your landed and stopped
Merry Christmas Swiss001 again you have completed another milestone b You have done your channel uploading videos for 4 years and you have done it again
Cebu Pacific uses A321-200s so much that when I flew one of them to Davao, it felt like it nearly did a tailstrike... I'm glad we used an A320 on our way back to Manila
