Ninth Day is such a special day in our Guyanese tradition - for neighbors, friends and families the wait is over. We call it baby shower - drinking, eating, gifts etc. Celebrating the birth of your child varies - some Hindus do it on the eleventh and twelfth day, some celebrate the birth of girl on the 8th day and the boy on the 9th day. Traditionally, the child’s name is chosen according to the position of the moon in the birth chart. A red dot or black bindi will be placed on the baby forehead for protection against envious people, evil spirits etc. (My grandmother says not “everyone is happy for you - they want bad things to happen to the baby” lol). Red dot is just a spiritual belief. Very beautiful video. Wishing your daughter many years of happiness, love and good health.
