"If you want me to stay" by Sly and the Family Stone was released in 1973. I was 15. This record was the best song I had ever heard in my life and I was I was a huge James Brown/Motown/Stax fan at that time. As I grew older and my music appreciation matured, I always had this song in my heart. When I discovered the brilliance of Bass guitar and James Jameson, I went back to this song and was wowed by the incredible bass that existed on this song from the beginning, whch made me love this song even more. Sly did a version of this song on Mike Douglas show and commented on how the bass players did a good job playing on the TV version (see video: Sly walks off the set back to his seat at the end of the song, and the band plays on). My point: I truly love this song! Your version here is exceptionally well done. Outstanding guitar play, wonderful vocals; nice jazzy arrangements... Two points of feedback: a) I would have loved if you had used a live bass in this arrangement... b) please don't clown around with movement (it ain't dancing) while playing this song, it really cheapened this video for me. nice job sirs! 7/9/18
@@ElyJaffeMusic I just discovered you guys after looking at all Sly Stone stuff. When I was a teenager, I loved Sly! Loved his music and loved his flare! Your "If You Want Me to Stay" rendition is sweet!
Anybody know what scales did these guys use to play over these super cool yet basic chords? Am7, Gm7 C9, F7, E7 the white guitar starts out in a pentatonic scale type thang and then blue guitar does the weird jazzy stuff with the sharps and flats.
So awesome i had to learn this, i got everything down except hanans leads, too much going on there. Anyway you can let me know what scales hes using so i can follow it easier?

hi, no real secret... just a good mic, its the avantone cv-12, and the important thing is singing correctly into it, the proper gain on the gain, and a decently quiet room. I dont think we did do much mixing on this, maybe some eq and compression and stuff. thanks!
lol you don't even have any content I would like to see you play anything at all of this caliber. They took a song and completely made it their own. A real musician doesn't put another down, and if one does be ready to back your shit up, especially when these motherfuckers killed this shit lol. It's fucking Jazzy and smooth.
I can feel every strum on every note... Simply Beautiful..
So funky and such low volume.
They covered the “shyt” out of this classic!!!! Good job fellas. Always nice to see true musicians at work....

Wow, you guys nailed it! Both guitars complemented each other. Just the ending...Otherwise perfect, that's the way to cover a song!

If you want me to stay
I'll be around today
To be available for you to see
But I am about to go
And then you'll know
For me to stay here I got to be me
You'll never be in doubt
That's what it's all about
You can't take me for granted and smile
Count the days I'm gone
Forget reachin' me by phone
Because I promise I'll be gone for a while
And when you see me again
I hope that you have been
The kind of person....that you really are now
Got to get in straight
How could I ever be late
When you're my woman taking up my time
Whoa, oh how could I ever allow
I guess I wonder how
I could get out a pocket for fun (HOW HOW)
When you know that you're never number two
Number one's gonna be number one
Ohh oww oohh
I'll be good
I wish I could
I get this message over to you now
[Outro]
And when you see me again
I hope that you have been
The kind of person....that you really are now
I'll be so good
I wish I could
I get this message over to you now
nice!
great
Sounds good to me!
Nicely done!! Sly would be very pleased!!!
No he wouldn't😂
Niceeeee :)
The scale, the scale!
Nice cut, boys.
that dude kinda is killing it...a little larry carlton flavor in there
Can someone please tell me what the third chord is in the progression? C9sus?

Beautiful voice, but I don’t think this is your song.
No soul at all, You took A very funky song and turned it into something nobody should ever have to hear... not ever
This is The Whitest version I've ever heard. The guitar playing is Dope tho.
