Lucas' mom is such a good sport - ALSO mad relatable about no friends in comedy - tbh that starting out backend shit is GOOD content. Viewers who are comedy fans can then understand how and what goes with the work, allowing them to appreciate the process of stand up
Great episode. I felt like I had missed that puzzle piece of the story of how you two met before so I'm glad you shared it with us. Or well, your mum did mostly. I can see where you got your humour from because she definitely did not pull any punches. Your parents' love story was a nice wholesome treat in the middle for the queer listeners who came over from Ashley because it felt very lesbian. Btw, you definitely did talk about having chlamydia multiple times on this podcast before and there were two pretty penis heavy 25th episodes that I would argue were still less graphic than the phrase "fiesta in my urethra" that you chose to say in front of your mother. Anyway, I want your mom's confidence, both in herself and the fact that no one listens to this or will ever find it if they Google her name.
PODCAST: Wendy, please consider giving to an organization to find a cure for narcolepsy! I was born with several physical disabilities so I knew, early on, that the only way I would ever be able to support myself (and my disabled mother) was to invest in my mind. Soon after getting my CPA license, I was diagnosed and any hope of bouncing back to my old self went out the window. Also, if there are any comedians you know looking for a nice, funny, smart, 36-year old, Jewish girl from MA, hook a sister up! Narcolepsy sucks but at least it can be funny and could be a goldmine of material. I feel like dating a comedian is the best way to mitigate the burden of dating me, lol. (Plus I cringe when I see a long list of tour dates because that tax return is a freakin nightmare so it could even out in the future…) Call Patti!
I actually do see how lucas takes from wendy when it comes to his humor/delivery, but lucas lacks the certain nuance that makes wendys joking funny and digestible and lucas's just tasteless and cringey. like it's not funny to brashly joke about experiences he will never be disadvantaged by (51:09 his mom clocks him about this perfectly right here)
Hi, I’ve been a huge (emphasis: HUGE) fan of my sons (imaginary or not lmfao) being succession I’ve attempted certain things. And I hope that I would remember what that ember would have to say the same things
After listening to every episode of this podcast over the last couple of days, this is what I've learned: I am very okay with not being rich. Sobroety is a sobriety from being a bro and not a sorority for bros because that would have an i and also make no sense. Lucas has thought thoroughly about the r-word and has his own reasons for saying it but I don't think he'd actively use the g-slur if he thought about that one as well. Also, disabled activism seems to be a separate woke bubble. Both of you are less straight than initially assumed. You talk about sobriety way less than the title implies, but it's meaningful when you do. That in comedy terms, killing is good, bombing is bad and slaughtering might be either, I don't know. I learned never to buy Pockies from the audio only episodes but also that they must have been trolling you after I read their corporate responsibility section. They are also less than a ten minute walk from my old apartment. I also learned what greenmail is, but that was mostly thanks to Wikipedia. Overall, I'm your number one fan now, at least if you only consider people who will never go to any of your shows in the US or subscribe to your Patreon and are essentially meaningless to your actual success, also because they don't even have TikTok. In that realm, I think you have succeeded with me. My normal genre of podcasts is usually only lesbian parenting and TH-camrs I watched as a lonely teenager, so you did have some convincing to do and that was also fully successful. I would offer to spread the word by mouth about how good this podcast is, but unfortunately I can never mention that I listen to it to anyone ever, which seems like a flaw in your business model here. My family also consists of cow farmers who might actually disown me if they see a single "poor whites"-segment, so it's probably not all you. But genuinely, I love listening to this and I definitely see the appeal in learning to laugh at things including yourself again and just dropping the guilt of failed moral perfectionism off your shoulders for a bit to listen to some nice guys (complementary) have fun. I appreciate the meaningful discussions you go into accidentally and the little moments where Lucas' genuine attitude of empathy comes through in his jokes about switching perspectives and both the friends and slightly disturbed strangers you bring on. Thanks for that! I'll stick around.
Wow, five months in and I've broken two out of three promises by getting a Patreon and subscribing and by flying to the US and going to their show. Might as well get TikTok now.
Lucas: "I don't know if israel is right, but what im saying is i dont want them here either. Im not saying israel is necessarily correct, what im saying is, you try living in close quarters with the Palestinians and you tell me if you want them exactly over your west bank" Wendy (mom): "exactly" Me: unfollow
this is still my favorite podcast episode ever lmao

Wendy is the best part of the pod

How tall is his mom? Epstein was almost 6ft supposedly, which isn't 'short'.
