  • A tour de force of common core and pelvic floor exercises baked into one sweet cookie! This is my first Pelvic Floor video, and I hope to turn this into a mini-series of 2 to 3 videos.
    While reading up on the Pelvic Floor I noticed many therapists and fitness professionals prescribe exercises that seem to be somewhat unrelated to the Pelvic Floor, at first. However, we need to see ourselves as a whole and not separate parts, and we as a whole must present in a functional way in order to help an injured Pelvic Floor to restore, or to keep our Pelvic Floor in prime shape, or to make the most of a well organised self as a whole.
    „The psoas, piriformis, quadratus lumborum, glutes, adductors and obturator internus also attach to or influence the pelvis and need to be considered as well”, writes Kim Vopni in her book „Your Pelvic Floor”.
    The many exercises of the Pelvic Floor literature and Online Courses often seem somewhat solitary, eclectic, and I was wondering how to create a congruent lesson that 1. includes a big chunk of all popular Pelvic Floor exercises' ideas, 2. is an exploration, and facilitates learning and improvement in harmony with the principles of Somatic Education and most and top of all 3. improves and works on an actual function. What did I come up with?
    Enter walking and running.

    Your lessons have helped me overcome many years of crippling pain - in about 2 weeks. Now, I can walk without pain. No Doctor ever got close to helping me. Thank you so much!

    I loved this lesson, Alfons, it was great for my back, and it cheered me up!!!
    I used to do your lessons with my 92-year-old mom. She passed a month ago, and now I think of her whenever I am with you. 💟

    What a jewel this video is.....The inherent support of the leg NOT being used is the stability in the "moving" leg.

    omg, words fail me... thank you for this! Did you make the 2nd/3rd part of the series you hoped to make? I couldn't find a link to them by searching youtube for improving ability pelvic floor.

    • @ImprovingAbility

      Unfortunately I didn’t… the next video was going to be about becoming aware of and voluntarily contracting and releasing of the different zones of the actual pelvic floor, in various patterns. And another video about how to train the actual pelvic floor without Kegels. I wanted to script those videos (usually I speak freely) and make them up to today’s standards, and that’s where it all fell apart and I never made them at all 🥺 Maybe instead of trying to get if done perfectly it would be easier and more realistic to discuss these topics in a sort of podcast style?

    Hi Alfons, is there a follow up to this video as you mention at the end you will do more with pelvic floor activation?

    • @ImprovingAbility
      @ImprovingAbility  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sorry, not yet! It’s a bit of a difficult topic. But I will soon be able to make it! I have almost all the talking points assembled. Maybe just a few months later I will film it.

    Love your lessons. Had trouble doing this one. Had shooting nerve pain from my subscapularis muscles when hands were behind my head and going to the sides. I imagine that isn’t supposed to happen?

    • @ImprovingAbility
      @ImprovingAbility  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes you are right, as I suggested in 13:55 please don’t bring your hands up all the way behind your head, do only what is comfortable! And don’t side bend so far to the sides that it hurts. In my lessons less is more, please be careful and stop (or do less) even BEFORE something hurts.

    Hi Alfons, Can I do this exercise if I have a bladder prolapse?
    Thank you

    • @ImprovingAbility
      @ImprovingAbility  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dear Susan, I would recommend seeing a licensed therapist in person. I would guess working on pelvic floor function is a priority, and then add the kind of exercises I offer here, IN ACCORDANCE to what your therapist is recommending. From what I read in the medical literature is that the pelvic floor has an amazing ability to heal, I wish you good luck and a speedy recovery! 🍀
