Does any other Aussie get the urge every now and then to binge watch reactions to Help and You're the voice, duos with Jimmy Barnes etc?. It happens to me it seems every couple of months, especially the Melbourne Symphony concerts. Of course, Farnham has such a great voice, I don't mind much.

Yes! That is his voice, I have worked on several shows with John from early 80's - early 90's. He is a national icon in Australia! A very genuine, down to earth bloke with very little ego, he will talk to anyone from stars to crew members with no pretence. What you see is what you get.

@@traviscarlson6718 Indeed...I think we've discussed this on another video lol. I made my parents buy me You're The Voice, it was my first record as a really young kid. I had older relatives (£10 poms 😆) who left England the same time as John did and they would bring his records etc over from Melbourne for me.
I meant more the fact that we missed out on the amount of live concerts. I loved him performing at the Princes Trust Rock Gala in 1989 though, he totally blew everyone away....as usual.
Anyways, he has always been my favourite and the fact he is a beautiful human being too is a bonus.❤

That's the thing with John Farnham. Whilst he is 'The Voice' and can just about 'out-sing' anyone, he also has a world class band backing him up wherever he goes. Every concert he plays he always credits his band in such a humble manner. He likes playing with them, and they seem to like playing with him.
Plus out of the many concerts I have been to over the years, including big local (Aussie) and top level/headline international bands, I have yet to find anyone who can involve the crowd on such a personal level like John can. He makes you feel like he has invited a few friends around to his garage for a private jam session with his mates!

You are discovering one of the world's best voices! I think the sound is a bit distorted in this recording, which is a shame, because his natural voice is naturally clear and pure. John has been around since the late 60s. He's had a lot of career highs and lows, but was pretty much unstoppable in the 80s and 90s. Even now, at almost 72, he can out-sing nearly anyone 😊 PS: Melbourne is pronounced "Melbin" 🙂

Thanks for your reaction, you may have already read in the comments below that Farnsey is known as "The Voice" but what you may not know is that he released a song called 'Your the Voice' back in 1986 and the powerful lyrics are as relevant today as they were over 30 years ago (maybe even more so). This is John singing it at the same concert th-cam.com/video/6m2m_9Uijso/w-d-xo.html but before you watch it, I urge you to just read the first couple of versus. PS this is Australia's unofficial National Anthem 🇦🇺😀
    Lyrics:
We have the chance to turn the pages over
We can write what we want to write
We gotta make ends meet, before we get much older
    We're all someone's daughter
    We're all someone's son
How long can we look at each other
Down the barrel of a gun?
You're the voice, try and understand it
Make a noise and make it clear
    Oh, whoa
We're not gonna sit in silence
We're not gonna live with fear
    Oh, whoa
This time, we know we all can stand together
With the power to be powerful
Believing we can make it better ...

Yep that’s his natural sound. He’s never screwed up any notes. He’s so amazing. You mentioned making someone feel good even if it’s for a short minute. Well me watching you react to Our John has made my day. In fact when you review any of our Australian artists like Guy Sebastian too, just watching your face and your enjoyment listening makes me happy. I know in every one of Johns songs when he’s going to belt out etc so I watch you to see your reaction. I’m just glad that he’s finally being heard in your country by people like you because we have been lucky enough to enjoy his music here for decades. Keep watching his songs.

The basic arrangement of the song was originally done by John himself. In this particular version, the guy playing piano is David Hirschfelder, highly respected, academy award nominated film score composer/musician (Shine, Australia, Elizabeth, Sliding Doors... etc). I would suspect that he might have had a hand in the orchestral arrangement.

You have just found out why Australians are so proud to have JF.. think it was arranged by David Hershfelder.. have a listen to some of John's other tracks.. all the international artists that pass through will tell you he really is the voice.. for some inexplicable reason the Americans didn't pick up on him properly..(possibly not the best PR job)

John Farnham is an interesting bloke for several reasons.
He is geniunely a very nice and kind person both on and off stage.
He is an infamous larrikin who loves to play around on stage and plays pranks on fellow band members and backup singers alike when live in concert, trying to see if he can make them crack despite their professionalism. (there are a few world singers that do not like him because of that. Its not that he cant be serious when he wants to be, stuck up people tend to piss him off so he will rub salt in the wound)
This man believe it or not does have a world wide fan base in other singers around the globe. Some of the biggest names known across the globe are fans of his and fanboy and fangirl when they get to sing with him. Celine Dion is one of his biggest.
He has the ability to sniff out the best musicians and singers and routinely asks then to join him in a concert to back himself up, and he does go to the extreme to make sure each and everyone of them has the spotlight on them for a portion of the concert. Some amazingly shy, but he has a knack for bringing them out of their shells. Each one knows what he is like on stage and is more than willing to let him go hell for leather. Routinely they love and get their own kicks out of watching him get himself into mock trouble and dig himself a deeper hole to fall into.
He ultimately lives for the crowd and loves to drag them into each and every song as you can see him do here.
It isnt a concert unless you see someone throw the biggest damn pair of granny knickers onto the stage which always makes him snort and break into laughter, but he seemlessly slips back into the song effortlessly.
I am not sure who arranged it into a piano ballad exactly, perhaps it was John. But it was Produced by another Australian musician, singer and writer named Graeham Goble. That man you should check out too. He and two others had their own band Little River Band. I am more than sure you will love their crooning smooth songs. John very briefly sung for them when Glenn Shorrock wanted a break, but in my eyes it didnt gel very well. Their styles are just far too different.

Thanks for your write up. I've read Farnsey's bio and just want to add that John wanted to take LRB to greater heights but the band were too set in their ways and even disapproved and frowned with John's onstage Larrakin ways. Needless to say John wasn't happy and with the band alienating him so they parted ways. Big question. Where are LRB today? All I can say, is it was their loss.

    • @theghost6412
      @theghost6412 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@Katrinagaming-en1os LRB are exactly where they have always been still making music but due to that prick in the US, they lost the name. They are now called BSG.
We all know what Johns intentions were, but honestly it was not what that band stood for or prided themselves on. It just wasn't the right match. LRB actually did break international borders without Johns help, but it was just too much effort so they let it go. But yes, they were one of the groups that heartily believed in professional excellence and didn't like or agree with Johns attitude. However that never stopped either from dealing with each other or helping each other, they just refused to sing together.
So really BSG never lost anything.

That IS Farnham's voice, it is so pure and his range is amazing. I have seen many John Farnham concerts in Melbourne and each time is even better than the last, if that is possible. And The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is world renowned, Have played for Elton John and Kiss, The Seekers (you should take a look at them, Judith Durham has one of the best Aussie female voices as well) and of course Farnsie).......

    • @joelmelissam

My mother tried to name me after Judith Durham...the nurses wouldn't let her. So instead of Judith Melissa {which they insisted I wasn't}, I'm Melissa Judith. Sad fact - my mother died of Motor Neurone Disease a few years before Judith's husband died of the same.
      But of course, you're right. We used to tease my mother about her love of the Seekers {as children are want to do to their parents}, but I took her to a Seekers concert as a surprise. I can't deny I was impressed {don't tell my husband or children. :D }

I think also watching an American watching an Aussie singer who is a legend here but unknown overseas, it makes me proud. Our lives here Down Under is filled with American Tv series, Movies, Singers etc. The first Aussie that really became noticed years and years ago in the States was Paul Hogan (Crocodile Dundee), but slowly Australian talent started to pop up over there and now there are a lot of Australian Actors.
