Actually, the word PPop began in the late 70s when the government promoted Filipino music through the Pop Music Festival where local artists performed and sang the songs composed by Filipinos. It was called Filipino Popular Music which became OPM (original Pilipino music). So PPop is not really new. It evolved to adapt to the current time. The singing and dancing groups now are really fortunate that our PPop music is being appreciated internationally which unlike before, our songs were appreciated only in our country. But, a few songs were appreciated by international artists: the Lettermen sang "Dahil Sa Iyo" with English translation; The song "Anak" by Freddie Aguilar became famous globally and was translated to various languages. I think that due to globalization and with the help of internet via social media and other platforms, our link to other countries became easier that our own music became more accessible to the world.
