I have similar bits that work great when you use them properly. You drill out the screw in forward. Flip the bit around then use the extractor in reverse. One time you should have read the instructions. 🎉🎉✌️😎
This is his 3rd time fucking these up. People have yelled and screamed in comments to use it correctly and nothing changes. Don’t hold your breath folks.
I've always had the best luck with use a dremel or rotary tool to turn the stripped phillips screw into a flathead screw and simply removing with a flathead drillbit or flathead screwdriver. Easy, effective, no unnecessary purchases
Okay, I'm officially convinced that this is 100% an act, a character for TH-cam or you were never a diesel mechanic. Its like being a surgeon but having no idea how to walk into a hospital
I think it's called wish because everyone says "I wish I bought the real product". Soft cheap metal can't compete with the hardened steel of a decent screw
He said they're stamped HSS 4130 which is a standard grade of steel for cutting tools, it's not bad. If you have decent drills in your garage the shank will be stamped HSS and will likely be 4130 or a similar alloy. Cheap drills and taps will be carbon steel and I am unsure of the stamps for that - I own a machine shop and stay far away from carbon steel tools. Of course, these could be made from anything and just stamped HSS, but that is a whole nother can of worms.
@@ndlsjkThis stuff is from Wish. It is cheap chinesium crap that is either a total scam by not being made with the materials it is claimed to be or is something that could have been legitimate but came off of the reject line for one reason or another that they then sell to you while collecting as much data on you as they can so they can try to steal from you later through some other means, be it fraud calls or just straight up card number theft
Everyone sitting in the comments talking crap to Tyler about using them "correctly" and reverse/forward blah blah blah... He's using them 100% correctly, they just suck. You can even see the cutting edge on the drill bits spinning the correct direction in the video. Dude knows how to use a damn extractor set. If I had to guess, the bulk of people in the comments talking crap are probably only equipped to hang a picture. I saw one comment of a guy saying something about it working better in a drill press?! Come on... I've been working with my hands and tools, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week for many years. Commercial contracting, which more or less means I drive from store to store fixing all the crap people break, so I'm always doing something different. I find myself needing to extract screws/bolts on a regular basis.. I can say from a LOT of experience, these Easy-Out style extractors suck ass. I wish they were good, because it's a nice compact bit of kit and when you have to carry a toolbox everywhere, you like to keep it light.. But they just aren't any good. Even if you drill out the hole with a red helix, the extractor still just slips and chews it up more.. I'm a little salty about it....
Super late but I agree, I wish people weren’t so hard on him, he’s just trying to hang out and do his own thing and these people are so horribly mean to him but then claim to be a fan
Those look like ones i bought once from a store and they were cheap and useless, the material was just weak and any edge that could bite or drill into a screw just shaved off instantly. tried to use them on stripped hex screws, but what actually worked was tapping in a slightly bigger torx bit.
Anyone who's ever used an easy out knows you have to drill a hole and then use your easy out I know they claim that it can unscrew a bad screw but it don't
Tyler, please know to use the cone shaped bit first, you think that cone shaped bit is the extractor when it is actually the file side to wear down the chewed up screw. Then when you flip the bit, the “chisels” what you call the drill bit are the extractor side and they bite into the smooth cone recess created by the file side… this is driving me quite, quite mad…
Didn't he use these backwards the first time he tested them and then the second video was him redoing the test and they worked great? Is time repeating itself?
I have 2 different sets of those. The drill bit is garbage. So I drill with a decent titanium nitrided drill bit and then use the extractor. If you don't drill deep enough the extractor just destroys the hole.
Why are you bearing down on that drill? You’re going to ruin those bits super fast. You only need a little bit of downward force to keep it in place and from slipping.
You realize that 11 out of 10 times you need an extractor, you wouldn't be able to use a drill press, right? Even if you could, there's no way it would work better.. You need to have complete control of the speed, drill presses don't work like that, it would just tear stuff up. Stick to regenerating limbs and one liners ;p
This is just painful to watch tbh, even your other screw extractor set needs to be drilled with the right size first. Drill looks like it's going the wrong way for the rest. For the love of everything holy... at least ready directions before you claim it's crap... Also, these are rarely used for the type of scre you have due to no neck substance. These are usually for bolts with at least some meat and a solid head.
Kinda funny, WISH Wednesday, and the video is 11:11 mins long. Lol (11:11 make a wish) haha 😂 disregard this comment, im half asleep, and it sounded funny. Lol 😂
It's rounded off cause you sat there with it spinning thinking it was magically going to catch on something.... I would chalk this up to operator error 😂
The HSS 4130 is just the alloy of steel: 4130 High Strength Steel. It's a standard material for cutting tools such as drills and end mills although you see more and more carbide as time goes on.
Sir… I do believe the drill side is actually right handed… Logically speaking, there’s no metal shavings from “drilling”, it sounds like it’s just gliding across the metal, and it looks like the flutes of the drill side are facing the normal direction. ALSO, logically speaking, you wouldn’t want the strips screw to loosen while drilling, you want to drill into it while it’s tightening to ensure proper depth for the extractor to grab… And like my dad always says; if it looks like shit, smells like shit, and tastes like shit, it’s probably shit. Reverse the drill, right handed like normal for drilling, then swap the bit to the extractor and put it in reverse, left… lol
Not how these ones work though. The website itself shows that both side work in the same direction. This is just an error in manufacturing, not of misuse.
I've bought 2 sets of the "good" ones. The original, that were total junk, then the supposedly improved set.. I've successfully managed to extract 1 screw with them.. Other than that they have completely let me down. And yes, the drill bit suuuucccckkkkksss. It's infuriating how terrible they are. I've even used red helix drill bits to make the hole, then attempted to use the extractor.. Still doesn't work. They are complete junk.. Not even worthy to be in a toolbox under the kitchen sink. Certainly don't get them if you actually use tools for a living..... Both of my sets are in a landfill somewhere. I still get annoyed every time I see them hanging in home depot/lowes..
I don't think this tool is intended for removing this type of screws. These types of screws have a small and shallow head, and I can't imagine a situation when I use such a tool to remove such a screw from a wooden beam or plasterboard - it's stupid.
Yeah, screws are too hard for a high speed steel alloy. Not suprised these sucked, if the drill bit section was cobalt they might have had a better chance, but I still doubt that the actual extractor section wouldve been any good.
Pretty sure you're supposed to run those extractors on the reverse setting even when you're using the cutting end. Not 100% but I swear I read that in the manual for a set I bought

Tyler puts his eyes about 6 inches away when drilling, without safety glasses on. Those bits are hardened, they shatter when they break.
