This radio, and so many of the current menu-driven radios makes me think... Uniden went totally tamper-proof with the 980SSB. AFAIK, it is still impossible to modify it to expand the frequency range. "Hold my beer!", says the new radios. I remember the days when you had to stand on your head, sacrifice a live chicken, and recite magic spells if you wanted "the uppers". Lots of times, you had to have a tech retune the radio for the uppers because the receiver and transmitter power would drop off. I also recall a time, not all that long ago, where pundits were predicting the sunset of 27 MHz CB radio because nobody was making new radios for the service. Nothing could be further from the truth. Enjoy.
I think Uniden and President follow the FCC rules to avoid penalties while conducting business in America. For me having upper or lower frequencies on a CB isn't necessary. In my local area everybody talks on channel 20 AM. Possibly the rules can be overlooked? The CB 500 for instance, pushes the boundary.
@@ScottsRadios I really can't say. Here in the Pittsburgh area, there are no channels in use by locals. The most activity is Channel 32 lower after 7 pm Sunday night, when the Whiskey Net is on. During the day I hear truckers and skip. After sunset, nothing. But just because the Pittsburgh area isn't buying doesn't mean that no one else isn't buying, or the manufacturers wouldn't be selling new radios.
When in service mode, can you adjust the WX channels, as we have no use for them in Europe. Maybe change them to local 2m repeater outputs or marine radio frequencies?
@@ScottsRadios I reckon that it's not possible. With the Chinese handheld V/UHF radios those frequencies are hard coded in firmware. There are some WX service settings as can be seen in your video, but probably for alarm threshold or frequency fine adjustment only. However for the Anytone Ares II those frequencies can be changed by the programming software. I'm looking forward to your findings.
@@ScottsRadios yes in DE you get channel 1-40 (Standard EU/US channels - All modes) then 41-80 are specific to Germany (26.565 - 26.955 FM only). I have a frequency chart on my blog: delboyonline.blogspot.com/p/cb-radio-frequency-list.html
So I am assuming if I turn the wattage down in fm mode that the a.m wattage will increase but this is just a guess, mine does 16 pep wattage on fm and on a.m just under 4 watts and swings 6 watts so I'm confused how you are getting 19 watts on am, please do a video on how you got 19 watts out of this radio on a.m thanks
The 19 Watts is PEP with modulation on AM. There is no PEP on FM. I believe I put the radio in higher power mode and that's why it was doing 19 Watts FM. I haven't looked/used the radio since I did the videos. It is a fine little radio though. I would recommend staying out of the service menu for modulation settings and what not unless you have the right equipment.
@ScottsRadios yup I have a frequency counter in line and watt meter, and you was in am mode when you was doing 19 watts, all I need to know is, is what setting to adjust on fm mode to see better pep numbers like I see here ty
@@chris2crazzy To get the 19 Watt you must cut the white Wire on the Board, after this step you have to open the Menu and select Power, there you have now 3 choices to select. LOW MID and HI. In FM you can select all 3 Power Options, in AM you can select only LOW and HI LOW = 4W and Hi = 8W, on FM LOW=4W, MID = 8W and HI = 19 W.

I'm not sure. Good question. I will see if it's possible.

Thanks for sharing looks like a neat little rig 👍
DE = Germany (Deutschland)
Wonder if the lower FM only portion is more often used in Germany?

How do you get the 19 watts, I've done the frequency adjustment and the extra FM channels but and figure out how to do the 19 watts
I didn't adjust anything the radio does about that out of the box.
@ScottsRadios on fm yes not am..

Maybe Denmark?
This is correct, DE = Germany
Interesting little rig!
I’m thinking about getting one for just traveling in the wife’s car with a little wil magnet mount. 4 watts dead key going to whatever.
It's a good radio.
Lil will is useless. Grab yourself a Sirio or Stryker mag
@@tommy2timez don’t want a tall antenna just to throw it on the wife’s car for traveling
@@ToolsTechOutdoors i understand, but the gains are just too great, it’s almost a sin. Lol
DEutschland = Germany ???
Yep
Interesting!
Same as the anytone at-500m different name with wx band.
Actually same as Anytone AT500M II.
#39👍
