WAGNER Airless Pro Tips Explained

  • Wagner Pro tips explained. It's very important to use the correct tip for the material you are using and the surface you are spraying onto and also very important is your choice of filter to go with the tip size.
    The correct airless tip ensures less overspray and therefore better control and finish. Not only will you use less paint which saves on material costs, but you will be spending less time doing the job and clearing up afterwards.
    On the tip, the first number gives the width of the spray. It matches the angle you are spraying at. If the number is 5, then you are spraying at an angle of 50° this gives you about a 10” fan width if you hold the gun approximately 30 cm from the surface.
    The last two numbers show the size of the spray orifice, indicated in thousands of an inch. The higher the number, the greater the flow with which you can spray. For example, a ‘517’ tip enables a greater flow than a ‘311’ tip The greater the flow the faster you paint larger surfaces, but you will use more paint. With a smaller fan distribution, you work more slowly, but you use less paint and you have more control.

    Greeting! I own a wagner 350M and a spray gun 517. I'm wondering how much I have to dilute the paint with water. example on 10kg of paint how much water I have to pour. Every time I apply paint, lines remain on the wall. There is no way I can match it to stay perfect

    • @WAGNERContractor
      @WAGNERContractor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Andro, thanks for your comment. We recommend diluting by 5-10% to begin with then go up in increments of 5% until you have the consistency of single cream, making sure it is thoroughly mixed. Have you checked the manufacturer's guidance on spraying for the material you are working with? They should be able to advise on spray pressure and tip size. It's possible that you need to go larger than a 517. Hope this helps - The Wagner Professionals.

      Hello Mike thanks for getting in touch. This video explains about our professional range of spray tips however you will specifically need the tips designed for the Control Pro tip guard (they are a different size to the pro tips!). For a fine finish on woodwork we would recommend looking at the 211 and 311 spray tips. These have a smaller spray orifice and narrower spray pattern to help you control the spray. Make sure to test with your desired material on a different surface prior to the final job. You may need to dilute. Other advice includes keeping the paint inside in the warm before spraying, mix properly and check dilution. You can also consult the material manufacturer for their advice on spraying.

    Hi using Dulux Aquanamel (water based enamel) for trims such as architraves doors and sills etc. Dulux recommends 1800-2400psi for this paint. The 311 tip at any of the pressure settings on the control pro 350m doesn't work. gives tram lines no matter what ive tried and keeps blocking up. Paint is new. When I swap out to the 517 tip with white filter it works beautifully but for trims its too big of a tip. fan size is too large and goes on too thick. based on the above im assuming I need something like a 215 or 315. are these available in the HEA range?

    • @WAGNERContractor
      @WAGNERContractor  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello Thank you for your question, the Control Pro 350 generates 110 Bar which is approximately 1500 Psi. It is designed to be a lower pressure machine to reduce overspray and spray mist to a minimum and make the machine easy to use and control.
      Therefore unfortunately the machine really doesn’t match what Dulux recommend for the product - however if you are getting an almost acceptable finish with a 517 then you can certainly try a smaller tip like a 215 / 315. Unfortunately, the Control Pro Tip family doesn’t go down to those smaller sizes.
      The only way of achieving this would be to change the nozzle holder & tip family to achieve what you want as they offer a wider range. You can see the range by looking at the Contractor Catalogue and Accessories which can be downloaded here: www.wagner-group.com/uk/contractor/service-consulting/download-center/?tx_solr%5Bfilter%5D%5B0%5D=category%3A%2F17%2F301%2F

    • @WAGNERContractor
      @WAGNERContractor  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello Liza, thanks for your comment. The Control 150M is an entry level DIY machine which does not take this range of pro spray tips. There is a different selection for them available (eg from Screwfix). To tell them apart, the back of the tips are hexagonal instead of round. For thinner materials, correctly mixed and diluted, it will be the 211 or 311 to work slowly for a fine finish with a red tip. Good luck with your spraying! Regards, Ben @ Wagner Professionals.

    If it won't spray it could be because of the sprayer tip it sometimes gets clogged or isn't properly installed onto the spray gun. Take it off rinse it and maybe watch a video on how it snaps into place I've had issues with this before

    What tip for spraying diamond eggshell please? I’ve used the 311 tip which works well initially but the filter that’s supposed to be used with it clogged quickly. Should I use the filter that comes with the 517 tip?

    • @WAGNERContractor
      @WAGNERContractor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello Tom the 311 tip should be used with the red filter and the 517 tip with the white filter. If the filter is becoming clogged it might be that the paint needs diluted and mixed thoroughly. It might also be that you have contaminated material in the paint which blocks the filter. If you're using new tins of paint this shouldn't be a problem but if you're using old tins these can have dried paint or other debris in them. Therefore we would recommend pouring the paint through a sieve to remove these first prior to use. You should also use paint a room temperature. I hope this helps. Kind Regards the WAGNER Contractor team.

      Hello As paint is forced through a very small hole to create the spray, any particles in the paint can block the nozzle or cause it to spit. We would always recommend straining paint through a sieve before use. This helps avoid getting any particles which could cause blockages or spitting, particularly if the paint is not new. If there a blockage rotate the tip 180 degrees and with the gun pointing into a bucket or onto cardboard briefly press the trigger to remove the blockage. It also might be that that paint needs diluted more or the tip size is too small for the paint type or pressure needs increasing. I hope that helps you Kind Regard WAGNER DIY Team.

    • @WAGNERContractor
      @WAGNERContractor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. If you are finding the sprayer is applying too much paint then we would recommend using a smaller tip size. As explained in the video, the smaller the tip size, the less paint it puts out. Try using a 515 instead and see how you go. Combine this with a slightly faster working speed. At the end of the day, it is better to apply multiple thin coats than one heavy coat.

      @WAGNERContractor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello the 130 sounds like a sprayer which is sold in the US which is similar to the UK Control 150M. The filter will be in the gun handle. We would recommend pouring the paint through a sieve when filling the hopper so that you don't get any particles in the machine which could block it. If the tip does become blocked rotate it 180 degrees, then pull the trigger to remove the blockage. Rotate the nozzle back and continue spraying. Kind Regards The WAGNER DIY Team.

      Hi Tim, firstly just to cover the cover the basics can we check that you have been clearing the tip? Simply rotate it 180 degrees, spray through, and then see if the blockage is still there. Otherwise you could use our TipClean to soak the tip and remove any dried on paint. Have you tried a different tip in the machine? Can you confirm that water is able to pass through the machine/hose/gun without a tip and tip holder on? Thanks and sorry you are having difficulties! • @WAGNERContractor
      @WAGNERContractor  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello! No worries - it's not exactly straightforward 😃 The left column is the width of your spray pattern (when the gun is held at 30cm from the surface) it corresponds directly with the right hand column which is the angle in degrees which the paint is projecting from the tip (the first number on the tip itself). Then across the top is the orifice size - the larger the number, the more paint will come out and thus meaning a smaller number is generally for thinner paints and larger is for thicker materials. The colours correspond with the material types at the bottom of the screen. Filter = the type of filter that should be fitted in the gun. I hope that helps it make sense! Kind regards, Ben @ Wagner Professionals.

    • @WAGNERContractor
      @WAGNERContractor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi P. If the advice from Behr is to spray using a 0.015-0.019 tip then you should be ok with the 517. You may just find that you need to thin the paint more because of the slight restriction on the tip size as well as the entry-level power of the 130 model (you would be better off with a Wagner PP90 or if you are in American then look into our sister company - www.titantool.com/ ).
