    I am trying to make a cup with amber color but I want drawings of insects in color black on it, how would I do that?

    hi! does it not work at all on bone dry clay? it has to be bisque ware? i'm actually trying to draw on bone dry clay with my underglaze pencil right now and it's not working :/

      Hi! I have just found that bisque clay works because it is a bit textured and the pencil rubs off better 🙃 I think it may be personal preference - but clay may be too soft for it if it is bone dry and the pencil will carve it a little bit

    i've been literally stalking your account, its literally so helpful. tysm for teaching us! quick questions, if i were to apply a clear glaze over afterwards, would dipping it work as well? what type of clay do you use? also, can i apply underglaze to any type of clay?

      Hi Lao Gan Ma! Haha thank you that is lovely to hear! Yes dipping should work fine just test your glaze recipe with your under glaze but it should be fine. I use different clays depending on what I want to achieve but all are stoneware temp. I do not use any earthenware. I do use porcelain sometimes but mainly for earrings. Generally I use a fine white stoneware as my normal white clay (like the cup in the thumbnail on this vid) :)

      Very helpful! I have tons of buff bisque stoneware and lots of pencils but I feel like I need to see more pencil tutorials. The line goes on quite chalky but it seems to fire more bold and melty from what you're saying. Thanks so much.

    Hi may I know for the clear glaze do you dip the bisqueware to the glaze or brush it just like the underglaze?

      @hellokirby1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! I use brush on clear glaze but you could do clear dipping glaze!!

      @@hellokirby1 i have one more question, what will happen if i use regular colored glaze instead of colored underglaze? Thank you in advance!

    • @hellokirby1
      @hellokirby1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! If you use a coloured glaze it will mix with whatever glaze is on top - if you are doing a layer. Underglaze won't shift on your ceramic piece where as glaze will. I always recommend testing the effect you are wanting to use before committing to a whole lot of pieces in case you are unhappy with the result. Good luck!

    Why did my underglaze pencil drawing disappear after firing?

  • @alli_world
    @alli_world 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You mentioned only using the pencil on bisqueware, not greenware. Can I not use it on greenware that is bonedry?

    • @hellokirby1
      @hellokirby1  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Allison! You can! But you might find because it is not rough it doesn't draw as well because the bisqueware has a texture that holds the pencil. It definitely still works but I have found that it's more textured on bisqueware. You'll get a smoother line on greenware! Let me know how you go 💕

    Do you wet your underglaze pencil?

  • @bigred6815
    @bigred6815 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If I’m concerned about the clear glaze smudging the underglaze I will fire the underglaze first. After the underglaze firing I will apply the clear glaze and fire the piece again,

    • @hellokirby1
      @hellokirby1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Big Red! When you are glazing you can just gently dab over your underglaze pencil for the first layer and then it wont smudge. If you paint like normal for the first layer you will get streaks. I always load my brush up with a fair bit of glaze too so it is the glaze touching the pencil and not the brush... if that makes sense! I will be uploading a video on this soon! :)

      Can you use any color of glaze on top? Will the pencil design still show through? Thank you 🙏🏼

    • @hellokirby1
      @hellokirby1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SaraJ-87 hi! You can if it translucent. Like a celadon might be okay. But an opaque glaze you would not see it. Best to do some little test tiles! You may also find that 1 layer of a glaze doesn't full cover it and 2 layers does! Good luck 💞
