I also really liked this game. I liked the drafting mechanic, the second guessing of your opponents, and the relatively easy rule set makes this easy to get to the table. So many juicy choices in a simple racing game! I am definitely picking this up.
I would say it's been around before. Gravwell is a derivation of a 5,000 year old Egyptian game called Mehen discovered in the Sudan in 1921. The rules are a bit different either with Tigers and Traps or Old Women and Jackals. In any case the spirit of the game is the same.
Bought this when Cool Stuff got it in. Great easy, fast and light game. Good for family game night. You can never master it due to the random drafting on each turn. 2 of my ships were broken off the stands when I got it. Drilled tiny holes in the stands and ships and used some tiny brass wire with super glue and they are fine now. A must buy for fun.
Enjoyed the explanation, but I disagree with the comment about the box cover. I actually really love the graphic design of this game. In my opinion, it's really compelling because it's so different than the painted illustrations in a lot of currently popular games. It's cool and nondescript. Plus it also looks nice, clean, and geometric. The box is what caught my eye and made me want to look more into this game.
WARNING: Gravwell's pieces are remarkably fragile, and will oftentimes break in the box with little to no provocation. I have opened this box only to find that the ships have broken off of their stands, and thank God I had a glue gun present. Also, sleeve your cards, this is one game where the dreaded 'claw' can and will happen and will ruin your cards over time.
Cryptozoic is getting better. Night Eternal is a pretty good game too. It's based on the True Blood license (which might make you cringe at first) but you can hardly tell and it also uses some very unique mechanisms I've not seen before. I'm also pleased with the component quality which is much higher than you'd expect. It seems like Cryptozoic is trying to break free of being known as "that company that makes crappy license games with a slapped on theme."
GraveWell: It's a dark Mafia game of treachery, backstabbing and the night-time, clan-destine disposal of stooges who've forgotten who's da' boss. "Make a wish, ya' goon!" is the official tagline of the game.
Tom, that 10 Dimension video is completely BS and not scientifically factual at all. There are much better videos and talks about multiple dimensions... the video talking about 10 dimensions was just made up by the guy completely.

This is the best "light" game I've played in years. I love it.

Vasel, you're AWESUM!
I've got this awaiting me. Can't wait to give it a spin, the mechanics are unique and the game looks like fun.

Bought this from Cool Stuff about week ago. Can't wait to give it a play!
Great game! It's different, thematic, and requires thought but isn't particularly difficult.

the cockpit on the ships look a little odd.........
Well I'll be, a Cryptozoic game that isn't [flavour of the month big budget mainstream film/video game]: the board game.

Grave well works too, seeing as it describes a black hole fairly well 😛
Come on... circular board!
Sorry! in space?

One of the worst games I have ever played. My copy was free and I felt ripped off.
