Refresh is a lovely, but misleading, euphemism. A 30% increase in fees, reduction in the ability to earn points and more useless credits is a downgrade not a refresh. One of the most disappointing things about Amex is their failure to honor their agreement with current cardholders by grandfathering them in.
I really hate that it is all about “credits” and more credits, it is annoying chasing the credits, comparing to others cards that are more easy.

Looks like I’m canceling my Gold card. It’s essentially raising the fee and giving me credits for places I normally wouldn’t ever go to.
None of the Resy restaurants in my city are places I would ever eat at and I get my coffee at a locally owned coffee shop. I eat at Shake Shack but that credit is going away
I’m probably just going to switch my spending to the Savior One. Yes, it’s 3x vs. 4x, but it’s also a $0 annual fee vs. a $325 annual fee and a bunch of credits to juggle for 1x more.
Half the year, the Freedom cards have dining or grocery stores for 5x with no annual fee as well.

Yeah amex is seemingly pushing toward a very niche audience because they focus on these credits that if youre smart you only give value to if you actually normally shop those places. Canceling my platinum card this year due to the same reason.
The Savor One is such an underrated card, I hope they never change it.

I like the White Gold color, and I already paid for my year, but I don't like the rumored changes and will have to consider keeping it if these are the actual changes.
The Donet credit pairs well with the prestigious Platnums Walmart +.

White gold is definitely not an accurate name for the color of the new card. Champagne gold would have been more accurate.

I’m usually pretty ambivalent or at least glass half full when it comes to these kinds of changes, but I might have to dump this card in addition to the platinum this year.
There are just too many of these ticky-tacky credits to keep track of that I’d rather focus on the home run cards in my wallet like the Delta Reserve and Hilton Aspire.

I told my parents to apply since they were offered 90,000 points and will likely be able to keep the $250 annual fee until next renewal while keeping the new benefits as Ben said.
I came across the 90k offer too! JUST got it. But how do you even track it in the app? Wish it was like Chase or Cap1 where they had a countdown.

Five Guys is not budget-far from it! Burgers are nearly $15.00 and it’s actually THE best burger

@@genovaz Thats not really true, if you just buy a normal combo at mcdonalds sure its like 10$... but the mcdonalds app has deals available every day. I eat there 4 times a week cuz its easy lunch and ill get a mccrispy for 1$ one day, and then the next will be a 1$ big mac, and so on. I rarely spend more like 4$ at mcdonalds. Now fiveguys... a burger with no fries and no drink is like 15$.
Dunkin Donuts completely left my state in 2020 and hasn't returned. Another literally unusable credit, yay.

@@daw7773 yeah, Dunkin doesn't fit the profile they claim to be aiming for, and they're not even in every state. I live in the middle of nowhere and can 'see' several Starbucks locations from my house.

Pre-2020 in Utah we had quite a few of them but they all closed down permanently right at the start and none of them have ever reopened. We have a few coffee chains, but the only donut chain is Krispy Kreme...

You can ask for the new card if you already have the existing gold. I already have mine! Not sure how much I feel of the look but I like it so far
I love the Amex Gold card especially because groceries and dining is a huge category for me, but with the new Resy credit it looks like I will be canceling after this year sadly. No Resy restaurants near me so I won’t be able to justify the annual fee. I already have the savor one so it looks like I will be applying for the venture X soon and switching to C1. I really loved the Amex ecosystem too. Oh well.

I have corporate card credit of $100 and got a retention offer recently for 10k points. After that expires, I will most likely cancel even with the corporate credit.

Dunkin is good, but I won’t use it monthly so I won’t count on adding the credit.
Dunkin makes sense because in a large city Starbucks and Dunkin are the two chain coffee stores that are on almost every corner.

Thanks Ben! I want to ditch my Platinum Card this year - it's just not worth the annual fee anymore, for me anyway. Do you reckon they might be giving card holders a step-down bonus like they have in the past? Or at least a retention?
After moving to Colombia 🇨🇴 I was ok just getting the Uber and 4x on restaurant benefits, but can’t use any of the other credits, so the increase in annual fees will just negate any else. So I’ll be trading this for my Bilt or CSR for dining. Hopefully it’s after my renewal next month to ramp up more points for one more year.
How do you use resy credit when resy for reservation?
I was going to sign up for the American Express gold, but they dropped the points bonus from 90,000 yesterday to 75,000 today. I wonder why?

I really hate the sleez of being tracked by Google everywhere I go. And then somehow Amex change their offer to me down to 75k. Anyway thanks for pointing that out, I will sign up through my VPN

West coast guy here my nearest Dunkin is 18 hours away the nearest 5 guys is two hours and grub hub is not a thing in the town I live in. It's safe to say I will be cancelling at my next renewal.

I actually plan on keeping the card I live in a major city so the Resy credit would actually be helpful because I eat a lot of those restaurants in least twice a year. And here in Texas they have five guys everywhere so I would actually be able to use that credit a little bit easier than Shake Shackso I will be keeping my card and it actually turns out to be more of a net positive for me than what it is right now because of the addition of the credit if they don’t remove anything.
They should have made it to be Starbucks instead of Dunkin Donuts.

@@UTubeVidWatcher Yes, unfortunately Bradesco and Santander banks “killed” this card, it has no good benefits, neither in Brazil nor abroad. It would be interesting for AMEX to form a partnership with another bank where it could become strong again in my country.

The two $50 Resy credits work for me so the $75 annual fee increase is not a problem. Donuts not exactly healthy so not happy with that, but I'm sure my family will find a way to use the credit 2 to 3 times in an year. Shake Shake definitely better than five guys. Curious how the Platinum will change. Maybe they make it a $995 and replace the $200 airline incidential credit with a huge airline flight credit like the Hilton Aspire but larger say $100 per quarter.

Cool looking card but I didn't find enough value in this card when it was $250 to own it. I don't need more donuts, burgers or shakes. A decent gym membership credit might have been attractive. Are people really that interested in donuts, burgers and shakes? That's what AMEX"s marketing people found?
