  • Joy Division live at Manchester Apollo (First Show - 27 October 1979) Remastered by Brian Hyphen (Twitter @BrianHyphen)
From Safety To Where (Soundcheck) / Dead Souls / Wilderness / Love Will Tear Us Apart / Shadowplay / She's Lost Control
Widescreen presentation with remastered video and audio, you can now listen to this concert with the volume turned up to 11 without needing paracetamol to see it all the way through. That and the fact that you should now be able to hear Hooky a lot better too.

I quite like the visuals. How dark everything is, its as the group are playing in the vast cold universe Ian sings about. Especially during Wilderness as he fades almost like an watchful phantom.

the light was set very dramatic during the JD shows, coming from one side leaving other side totally dark.

Ian's dancing is not weird or dictated by the meds, it's the only logical way to dance to Joy Division's music

Ian's dance is based on a punk dance called 'the dead fly' where a person is crawling over de floor like a dying fly. Ian did this standing up.

Spot on. Not drugs. He danced like that before he was epileptic, so it made no difference. The music and his lyrics were a feeling and it went through his body like electricity. It wasn't false, it was unique, and made him stand out as a front man like no other.

The dance has nothing to do with epilepsia, he danced so because he saw it has the effect to audience.

All there songs and performances are very haunting because you always have that “he was x amount of months away from taking his own life” throughout

At the very beginning, during the soundcheck, there is another guy that is testing the mic (although similar dress to Ian, this guy has longer hair in the back and maybe glasses - which you notice the difference when Ian comes on stage with different (shorter) haircut testing out the mic distortion level) right afterwards. Who might this be - a roadie? Pils or Twinny?

I'm fairly certain that was Twinny, Terry always had shorter hair from every picture I've seen
