That building definitely looks out of place in that neighborhood. I also noticed a couple of video cameras on the sides of the building. Gentrification, as you said. Plus, that's one hell of a waterfall right in town! Great images, as always, my friend.

Thanks Terry! Can you believe that waterfall?

I was born in Rochester and moved out in 1991. One thing I can not get enough of though is it's deep, rich history. Thank you for sharing.

Interesting watching your video. I am English and in 1909 my grand parents emigrated to USA Rochester and my mother was born there in 1912. At the start of WWI 1914 he felt it his duty to return to the UK and joined the army, he died in France August 1918 just 3 months before the war ended having got through all before. having sold his business in the UK he was looking for a business to buy in Rochester, just shows some things are not meant to be.

Thanks for sharing that story! Had his plan been followed through, you might now be a New Yorker.

Thank you for this video. I looked at some pictures of this same area on Google Earth. Since you like architecture, you should check out some of the residential areas... Corn Hill, Park Avenue, South Wedge and many other areas. Sadly, only a few areas of the city have been preserved and rehabilitated. City leaders did not appreciate the older architecture and unfortunately allowed many older homes to be carved up into apartments. There are many gorgeous old houses in neighborhoods you wouldn't want to go into because of all the crime and drugs.

Hey thanks for the tips! It wouldn't be the first time I've made photographs in sketchy neighborhoods -- Memphis and St. Louis spring to mind. It is where you often find the most interesting houses. I'll look into those neighborhoods you recommended.

@@Keithdotson I grew up in Rochester. Gorgeous old homes in many neighborhoods. Google Earth along the streets in the south eastern part of the city. Many of those homes have been restored and there is much history in the area. South Avenue, Gregory Street, streets off Monroe Avenue are just a few of the streets where people have fixed up these great older homes.

Almost visited Rochester a few years back because my son was considering RIT for college. What was that building at 4:32 with the beautiful window arches? Has an old NYC feel to it.

I think you’re talking about the Powers Building. Isn’t that gorgeous?

No! But that sounds great. I am sorry I didn't know about it. I was only in town for two days but I'll mark that down for my next visit. Thanks for watching.

Very nice, but still very sad about my hometown. The mayor really has been very stupid and I hope a new one will rebuild, but Albany is stupid, too because I hope Albany will be able to help Rochester into a great shape again soon.
