I love the XJ40 cars. And i will agree with you Adam 100% that this was the last real Jaguar under the Sir Williams Lyons direction. There are videos stating this fact and even though the quality of these cars got BETTER under the Ford ownership, the newer X300 cars didn't have the same soul in my opinion. We only had the base Xj6, Sovereign, and Vanden Plas models in there the states. My favorite models are the earlier cars, 1988-1989, with the digital dashes. They are notorious for breaking but still look so damn kewl. Great car.
Fantastic find, I'm thrilled for you, the excitement you are clearly feeling does not diminish with time, it simply never goes away, I had my first Jaguar age 19, I'm 51 now, the thrill is still just as it was as a young man, I does not go away.
I was honestly mystified as to which Jag you might have found. Im honestly so happy you bought an XJ40. They're possibly the most humble of all Jags and so underappreciated.
LOL, I have a '93 and LOVE it. It was my dream car and I took the plunge finally and got one. I'm only too happy these are underappreciated as it keeps the price down, and I don't want to drive something common!
Excellent acquisition. Congratulations! Here in Brazil the Jaguar vehicle line is very exquisite and rare. I'm an enthusiast and passionate about the Jaguar XJ and its old design, but here they are very expensive and it is difficult to get parts to fix them. A pleasure to start following your channel. Good luck!
Hi Adam-Battery fit I see ! Any "M" series Alpine 6 disc changer will work/fit,the cable is usually tucked behind the trim, aerial side, towards seat back. The Daimler Double-Six (XJ81) had 16" lattice fitted, they looked awesome,as does the rest of your Daimler :)
Yes it does fit! I'll have to replace it since it's pretty old but I had it laying around. That's great to know! I have now looked over the papers and the car was ordered with those 16" latice wheels which is cool. Thanks for watching!
I had a late model XJ40 4 litre Sovereign and really liked it. Soft, comfy handling rather than super sporty but then comfy is what you want from a Jaguar - I bought an E32 BMW 7-ser (740) afterwards, which had a more eager 4 litre v8, and so about 286 bhp, rather than the 245 bhp of the XJ40 4 litre, but the Jaguar's engine was smoother. Check for rust at the bottom corners of the rear window and inside the petrol filler cap area, and get your wheel arch rust sorted FAST coz it spreads like wildfire if you leave it - XJ40s resist rust pretty well but once it starts it really takes hold. The "check bulb" lights can be a problem too - start with bulbs and cleaning the bulb holders properly but it may be the control unit or indicator mounting pods and their wiring. If in any doubt don't take to a garage but get a proper auto-electrician to sort it. You'll be glad you did coz the wiring on XJ40s can be a bit ... annoying. Other than that, great score! I bought mine cheap as chips (£650 IIRC - you just couldn't give them away then, and mine was in near-mint condition too) with about 140,000 miles on, ran it for 20,000 miles or so, then sold it to a friend (it was reliable enough that you could do that, due mostly to the huge oil capacity and under-stressed engine) and he enjoyed it for a while then sold it on too - the 4 litre engines go on forever if given oil changes on time, and reasonable quality oil - don't skimp on oil change duration, although it doesn't need special oil ... any good normal oil will do, and it takes a LOT, like 8.5 litres with a filter change, IIRC. I was told that the big oil capacity is why those 4 litre straight six Jaguar engines can go to such high mileages without issue, so long as the head gasket is intact, and mine was, and you'll have checked yours I'm sure. I found a great Jag breaker near me and they got me the few parts I needed at great prices (£10 here, £15 there) and even fitted them for me most of the time too for an extra £5. Very little went wrong (IIRC one bulb pod and then later the bulb control unit, plus brake pads & discs when needed but that's routine maintenance at high mileages), and it was a great car for motorway miles, wafting along - I was driving 300-500 miles a day at the time, and it was getting me 23-25 mpg at a steady 70 on motorways. I really loved mine. Best of luck with your new purchase :)
Yes these engines do seem to eat up the miles. Oil changes is really the key to getting any of these old Jaguars to live on. 8.5 liters isn't too bad when I'm used to the V12s. Thanks for watching!
Nice car! I am in the process of buying a 1991 Jaguar XJ6 Sovereign. It is flawless, except for one thing: no spark. I'll have to check a few things to get it running!
Ok . Daimler . Expect of the rear bucket seats , the wavy grill in the front and the rear the side striping and the Picking tables and different labels it is a cool Jag XJ6 . Love those cars as nobody wants them so they can be purchased at low prices . The Daimlers in Switzerland had adjustable rear shocks which of course will not work anymore in later years of use (repair at the Jag dealer is 5000$ ) Plus they would not install regular shocks so you can find many nice Jag XJ6 at the junkyards . Works for me as I did install regular shocks.
Congratulations, beautiful car !! I am Blessed to say that a friend of mine gave me his 86 jaguar xj6 ..Hes 77 years old and he cant drive it anymore, so he would ask me to drive it around 3 or 4 times a month for the past 3 years. Believe me it was my pleasure. Well I couldn't accept it without paying him something, he would always responded by saying "just take it, its a gift" So we finally agreed on $2000 in 4 payments no time limit..God bless him. Looking froward on taking good care of it... this car is priceless to me.
Great video. My late step-dad was one of Jaguar cars senior test drivers and he would regularly take me out for a quick drive in the latest models. Always had a soft spot for Jaguars and I currently run a 5.0XK. I hope you are pleased with your newest acquisition.....Bib, England.
I had an '89 Majestic back 20 years ago when it was 10. Same inside, except for instruments, burgundy piping and seatbelts. It's my favorite interior. I have a '97 VDP now, but I've always liked the XJ40's design slightly more.
Congratulations. About the rust, this was the exact same places I had rust on my X300, which is basicly the same carosseria. If you are going to use it in winter, get a good anti-rust undercoating.
I love my series 1 I've noticed a lot of times and this is not just with British racing green that you can have two or three cars and still have slight differences in the depth and darkness of the paint it also depends to you leave it out in the sun the paint can fade some it looks like you got a nice one and I agree with you I love the wood on it the wood on mine needs to be redune which I will eventually get to. my series 1 is my everyday driver these are really incredible cars
Almost forgot I love the car! One of the reasons I purchased an older xjs(1977) is because of it not having so complicated electronics like this Beautiful Automobile.
Nice looking car. I had a silver 1990 Daimler XJ40 some years ago which we used as the family car. Loved it. It drove effortlessly. But now time has moved on and I found my dream car a few months back. 2010 Black Jaguar XK with the 5 Litre V8. Now that turns heads. looking forward to future videos
Congratulations on your purchase! Overall the car looks great and your video did a wonderful job conveying the excitement of picking up a newly acquired car. Looking forward to future videos on it.
Congratulations Adam! I’ve never owned an XJ40, let alone a Daimler. I’m still quite familiar with them and really like the one you’ve bought for seemingly modest money. From 1990 onwards most issues (1986-89) were ironed out, but they’re still unfairly underrated by many. I’m looking forward to your next video. Good luck with the refurb. This job is a piece of cake for you ;-)!
When I was about 19 (1989/90), I bought a used Daimler Sovereign 4.2 (Series 3 XJ6). It was great and would leave the boy-racers standing - insurance was relatively cheap, but it DRANK petrol. I got an average of 9mpg - it had 2 tanks of ten gallons each (separate filling openings - one on each side). At today's prices of about £6/gallon (though it is currently a bit below that, due to Covid) it would cost £120 to fill up and do just 180 miles!!!
I do really love the old series XJs. At the moment my daily driver is a 1975 XJ6 Series 2. The cheaper price of the fuel right now does help. Thanks for watching!
Terrific video! I think you captured the excitement of a new purchase of an older super neat automobile That was extremely expensive when brand new. Not quite as scary for you as I describe you as a" mechanic's mechanic ". Look foward to all your videos. Thank you and keep up the great work!
Oh yay!! I look forward to seeing more vids on your XJ40!! I recently purchased a 1988 XJ 40 it needs a little work also but am looking forward to getting into it.
Adam, another very nice video. Xj40s are very inexpensive here in Colorado Springs. Rust free too. How ever the dry thin air destroys clear coat and dries up leather and wood mercilessly. Anyway, I think you made a fine purchase and another fascinating video. Sincerely, Chris/Colorado Springs/USA
Hi, congrats! I got the same car in Solent Blue with the same interior as you have, fairly uncommon. Took me a year and a half to find one. I am glad it drives, wish you to enjoy driving it!
Hi. I just discovered your chanel and subscribed. I also love Jags. I had and old S type also that I bought as a winter beater. It was a great car. Best part about old Jags is that they are so cheap
Looking forward to see your updates on the front and rear suspension (control arms, burshings, steering rack and arms, silentblocks, engine mounts and so on) and on the wheel hubs bearing on all 4 corners and also on the the sunroof. Those are the weak parts of the xj40/x300/x308 and they get neglected by all owners, becuase they are a pain in the ass difficult to tackle and also expensive if done by a dealer or even an indepentend shop. Anyway good luck to you Adam.
I've had never a really crush on the Daimler/Vanden Plas models, although I always admired the sheer luxury of the cars. It will be surely exiting, what you will do, to set up this car as a winter daily driver! It seems to be even a little lighter than a XJ6. Have fun - I'll watch eagerly :-)
Nice one Adam, XJ40 is one of my favourites, especially 3.6 with the digital dash. I do have a CD changer and some good secondhand wings, if you get stuck come by and have a look.
Hello Adam. Watching your streams on the classic Jaguars is very informative. A couple of years ago I bought a 2001 Jaguar XJR with not a very nice sounding supercharger. The problem was that no where in this country could I get the rebuild kit for the internal parts, everyone just wanted to sell me the complete supercharge. Just by chance I was talking to another Jaguar enthusiast who said get in touch with a company in the north east of England, I did. They supply a complete rebuild kit of bearings seals and turbine oil. The supercharger has now been rebuilt and road test. Wow it is fast. I do have a question for you. I also have a 1988 Hess-Eisenhardt, think I have spelt that right. What is your opinion on the oil / air separator and its efficiency. I contacted Jonas concerning the Aux Air Valve, and he replied on the cost of repairs and what is done, thank you so much for that. Please keep up the good work, I have learned allot watching your TH-cam videos. Peter
One question i got a 1977 xj6 and the Back and front seats are worn out and they got some wholes in it my question was should i switch all of them for a new type of seat or keep these and let them getting repaired.
I saw "Laholms tidning" (newspaper of the city Laholm in Sweden) in the backseat. I bought my first Jaguar in Laholm too. Do everybody in Laholm have Jaguars?
Hi Adam, car looks good, I’ve got an xj40 in kingfisher, yours looks like BRG. They are great cars. I’ve got a cd changer for the 40 spare and other bits so if you get stuck give me a shout. Good luck take care, Frank.
Kingfisher is a great color too! I've heard a lot of good about the XJ40 and now I finally found my dream one. Thank you! I'll let you know if I need anything
Is the 1991 model made after they discontinued the rear self-leveling suspension? Also, I suppose in your country they don't mandate a third brake light in the back window?
This one had the self leveling suspension from the factory but it had been converted to regular shocks. I think they became mandatory a few years later here.
Hi, I have a 2004 jaguar xj, the device you call picnic tables are actually called business trays, not picnic tables. The reason these cars have these in back is because these vehicles were often used to transport dignitaries to and fro. It's great comedy listening to millennials talk about cars!
Lovely find! Excited 'with' you! :) It is fun seeing how very similar (and yet with a number of small differences) that interior is to my '97 Vanden Plas. And yes -- those iconic 'picnic tables' are just SO enviable! :D (I like the recessed cup cushions yours has which mine lacks...)
Not sure if this will work -- but thought I'd make an effort to provide a photo of my Vanden Plas. If it does work, perhaps you can 'page through' some of the following photos for some of the interior shots.... facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10156692523925767&set=a.10156428150195767&type=3&theater
Well drat -- it looks like (at least if you're not already on facebook), that link brings up the entire photo album. Not just the image I copied the link from. Sorry about that... :/
I am sure 90% of your viewers would like to know what you paid , just to give a little more perspective for prospective buyers . Well presented video thanks !
Living With A Classic good maintenance & taking care of problems as they arise are key. Often high end cars suffer increasing neglect as the number of owners increases. The second or third owner can’t really afford the care and so items get neglected until it snowballs into a huge money pit.
I hope you got deep pockets mate, i worked on Jags for 50 years and the XJ40 is one of the worst ones, i could give you a run down of all the faults But it would take to long, good luck mate.
Titus Andronicus I think that BRG goes back to when the first races were held and the English races had to be held in Ireland. It was a thank you to them for letting us race there when racing was banned in England. So they chose for their colours I think shamrock green. So really Irish racing green.
They all rust on the same place as water runs down the "window gutter" and finds its way down into to front fender. By sealing it proper at the transition section of the fenderand front window this make the water run off to the front . Thinking of ad a plastic flap over the headlight as the water finds its way to run behind the lights . As this have been so luxury priced cars finding over the years more headscratching . Why did the build it that way ? How about the electric and electronics. Has taken me two weeks of searching to find out a problem with the rear blinker and brake light . Turned out it was a broken wire to the front relais light and control "box interface ". Many more samples Yes those now classic Jags are fun to drive . Drove mine across Europe .Ukraine to England and to Spain . Without much problems. Never a full moment when driving a classic Jag on the last open Road .
Hi Adam What a beautiful car that xj40 is You will have to get a chauffeur so you can enjoy riding in the back lol You dont appear to be at all put off by the rumours about the build quality of the xj40 Is it a bit of a myth or are you confident enough that you can tackle any mechanical issue I mean, id be a total anxious wreck - has the trans be serviced has the engine been serviced where is the rust I mean you dont seem phased Good on you though 👍 Wish i had youre confidence & id go & buy that 89 daimler 180k for 3,000 (Aust) but i wont....not at the mo
In my opinion the XJ40 is no worse than other luxury cars from the 80's and early 90's. The engine is probably more robust that most german rivals from the time and the gearbox is a tested unit that everyone used at the time. They last a long time. The car looked well taken care of and once I got the glove box open I found that it has excellent service history. There is some light cosmetic rust but that can be sorted. I think they are one of the best Jaguars to take a bit of a gamble on. They are cheap to buy, used parts are plentiful and the mechanics are strong.
Living With A Classic I just had to replace my power steering high pressure hose that was leaking badly. Does your car still have the self-leveling suspension?
I do not know for sure yet but it looks like it still has it. There were no puddles on the ground from the back so if it's there it's working. In the next video I will see if it's still there
I love the interior on that Daimler, but when you showed the rear of your XJ6L I said Wow, that is a gorgeous car! BTW, Is there any evidence that anyone anywhere has ever picnicked in the back of a British car? I just can't imagine that.
You do realize there is no help for you or me, I have owned Jaguars since 1980 and currently thinned the herd to a 64 MKII a 64 E Type and a 99 XK8 but if I iinclude my brother who i infected he has a 2004 S Type and a XJS convertible (not sure of year) and in fairness we do share the E Type now get on and RESTORE the S Type or you will have to give it to me..
Haha ya it's a bug! The S-type is the next big project on the channel. This Daimler will most just get a major service and I'll probably get a good body shop to do the small rust and paint
XJ40 looks stunning. Such a clean, elegant unfussy style. Don't know what year yours is* but I scanned & uploaded a 1988 Jaguar/Daimler brochure: www.flickr.com/photos/54329998@N00/albums/72157688956376423/with/39853171433/ *My bad. You said it was a 1991 car.
THEAT LOOKS JAST LIK MY IIN IS 1992 .MAGASTIC..WED 140.000... I I PAED .450 AMERICAN DOLORS..AND IT RUNS GOOD WED LOTS OF NEU PARTS.MAN BAT .MY FRAND PUT A HOUL IN THE GAS TANK .AND CANT FIN 1 .FACK IM SAD

Absolutely gorgeous. And don't even get me started on that fabulous interior smell these vintage XJ's have.
They do all smell fantastic!

Thank you my friend! I'm glad it never goes away. The first night I went out just to sit in it before going to bed.
Going out before bed, to sit in dusty, misfiring new purchases will continue too, even in 25 years from now 😃
I'm glad it will! :D
I was honestly mystified as to which Jag you might have found. Im honestly so happy you bought an XJ40. They're possibly the most humble of all Jags and so underappreciated.
I'm glad I could create some suspense 😊
They are truly a forgotten Jaguar but really one of the greatest ones
LOL, I have a '93 and LOVE it. It was my dream car and I took the plunge finally and got one. I'm only too happy these are underappreciated as it keeps the price down, and I don't want to drive something common!

Hi Adam,..congratulations on your purchase on the 1991 XJ40 Daimler/Jaguar, it looks great and in great condition.
Enjoy it !!!

Congrats on the new Jag. I own a 2006 S-Type R. It’s an amazing vehicle and reliable daily. Look forward to the new videos. Cheers from the states.
Thank you! I have yet to drive an S-type R. I heard that they are a lot of fun!
As a Brit living in the UK,I salute your choice of vehicle 👏🇬🇧
Thank you! 😊 Hopefully it will be back on the road soon
Almost
forgot I love the car! One of the reasons

Nice car Adam, great to bye a car from your birth year! I bought my dream car a couple of weeks ago, XJ C!
Oh what a great car! That is my dream too, a V12 XJC
Love your work. I wish I had the time and skill to reactivate old cars like this. Keep it up!
Thank you! 😊
I have a 1984 XJS and a 2003 VDP and love them both, both paid off so now look for another but not sure what yet
Maybe an XJ40? 😉
@@LivingWithAClassic sure wish, also wish I could afford an E Type
Terrific video! I think you captured the excitement of a new purchase of an older super neat automobile
That was extremely expensive when brand new.
Not quite as scary for you as I describe you as a" mechanic's mechanic ".
Look foward to all your videos.
Thank you and keep up the great work!
Yes it really was very expensive when new. Thanks for watching 😊
Awesome! I have a 1990 Vanden Plas that I bought in October and I love it! Will be happy to follow your updates on this project!
They seem to be great cars! Been looking for on with this interior for a while
Love my S-Type. Beautiful, sexy, and the most reliable car I've ever owned. Fourteen years old & still turned heads!
I had a 1991 S-type before. It was a great car!
agree, mine is 17 years and It looks much better than any premium car on the road today !
Excellent choice for a daily driver, interior color trim is amazing ! Impatient to see the videos on this one !
The next video will be up in a couple of days. Thanks for watching 😊
Oh yay!! I look forward to seeing more vids on your XJ40!! I recently purchased a 1988 XJ 40 it needs a little work also but am looking forward to getting into it.
I'm glad so many people are looking forward to my XJ40 videos! Ah the 88 has such a cool dash
Thank you Chris! I'll have to visit Colorado Springs sometime, I've heard it's beautiful there.
I have just found this channel and started to enjoy it very much,, Excellent topic and very interesting. I also love Jags..
I’m glad you found it! Many more Jag videos coming
Love the xj40s!
They really are great! 😊
Hi, congrats! I got the same car in Solent Blue with the same interior as you have, fairly uncommon. Took me a year and a half to find one. I am glad it drives, wish you to enjoy driving it!
That's a beautiful color too! I've been looking on and off for a few years. This one actually found me which is cool
Looks s as nice car Adam looking forward to seeing the new videos on it 👌👍
Thank Paul!
Hi. I just discovered your chanel and subscribed. I also love Jags. I had and old S type also that I bought as a winter beater. It was a great car. Best part about old Jags is that they are so cheap
Thank you! I had an S-type last winter too. It was a great winter car
Thank you! There will be some suspension work since I do have a slight clunk. It's from the front upper shock mounts I think
I'm told that the CD changer was actually a Pioneer unit with Jag logos on it, so you can probably find a Pioneer unit and it would work
Thanks for the tip! I know Cds are a bit obsolete now but it's still fun to have it
I've had never a really crush on the Daimler/Vanden Plas models, although I always admired the sheer luxury of the cars. It will be surely exiting, what you will do, to set up this car as a winter daily driver! It seems to be even a little lighter than a XJ6. Have fun - I'll watch eagerly :-)
I think it will share the daily driving duties well with the series 2 XJ6. Thanks for watching!
What a MV 😀
Im wondering is the 4.0Lt engine in this part of the XK 'lineage' ?
Very nice car.
Jaguar is simply the best brand.
Many greetings from Germany.
I agree 😊
Beautiful car, I have a 1982 black 4 door xj6.
I had a 1992 XJ40 and it was FLAWLESS. I sold it 3.5 years ago with 74,000 miles.
They do seem to age very well and still look great!
Nice one Adam, XJ40 is one of my favourites, especially 3.6 with the digital dash. I do have a CD changer and some good secondhand wings, if you get stuck come by and have a look.
Thank you Steve! You know I'll be by soon
Cool.... what a great find👍as for the colour, it must be BRG as the only other green at that time was Jade Green which is much lighter.
Thanks for the tip about the color! Yes I do think I may have found a real gem this time.
Peter
I like your Daimler.
Beautiful purchase.
Thank you! I’m very pleased with it. I think it’s my favorite interior by far 😀
Easiest job is pulling of the horn push pad,
Well bought sir. That is a cracking car.
Thank you Steve!
One question i got a 1977 xj6 and the Back and front seats are worn out and they got some wholes in it my question was should i switch all of them for a new type of seat or keep these and let them getting repaired.
Nice Daimler a good clean up project.
Thank you! I think she'll be very presentable 😊
What type of crazy Jaguar is that with the battery in the engine compartment?
Looks a really tidy Jag for 30 years old not my favorite shape XJ but its still a Jaaag.. I have a Jaguar XK 2007 real Beauty.
Yes it's not too bad for its age
Nice looking Daimler.
Thank you!
The XJ 350 is an excellent car too, I wish you a lot of pleasure with your Daimler.
I really like the XJ350 also, it feels very big in a good way. Thank you!
I saw "Laholms tidning" (newspaper of the city Laholm in Sweden) in the backseat. I bought my first Jaguar in Laholm too. Do everybody in Laholm have Jaguars?
Maybe they do haha
What are the wheels on the black jag in the background called? I'm in Canada and am looking at a '90 xj12 and I'd love those wheels on it!
They are the standard steel wheels on the series 2 XJ6 and XJ12
Hi Adam, car looks good, I’ve got an xj40 in kingfisher, yours looks like BRG. They are great cars. I’ve got a cd changer for the 40 spare and other bits so if you get stuck give me a shout. Good luck take care, Frank.
Kingfisher is a great color too! I've heard a lot of good about the XJ40 and now I finally found my dream one. Thank you! I'll let you know if I need anything
Congratulations on your new car
Thank you!
great find
Is the 1991 model made after they discontinued the rear self-leveling suspension? Also, I suppose in your country they don't mandate a third brake light in the back window?
This one had the self leveling suspension from the factory but it had been converted to regular shocks. I think they became mandatory a few years later here.
“Keep it between the hedges with the rubber side down” Enjoy!
I'll try my best, thank you!
It is fun seeing how very similar (and yet with a number of small differences) that interior is to my '97 Vanden Plas.
Engine sounds knackered......money pit!
Your not buying a new Jaguar. Your buying a future classic
Very true!
I am sure 90% of your viewers would like to know what you paid , just to give a little more perspective for prospective buyers . Well presented video thanks !
I can go over the cost of the car in the next video. Thanks for watching!
Definitely
They’re a strong vehicle. I’ve seen them go for 300K miles.
They do seem to just keep running
Living With A Classic good maintenance & taking care of problems as they arise are key. Often high end cars suffer increasing neglect as the number of owners increases. The second or third owner can’t really afford the care and so items get neglected until it snowballs into a huge money pit.
I hope you got deep pockets mate, i worked on Jags for 50 years and the XJ40 is one of the worst ones, i could give you a run down of all the faults But it would take to long, good luck mate.
This one seems to be pretty good plus I've budgeted for it not being. Got it for a good price
May I ask you to use “inexpensive” in place of “cheap”? I hate hearing “cheap” and Jaguar in the same sentence.
BTW: I learned from my car painter a long time ago, that over the years there are over 60 shades of BRG...
Oh wow 60 shades! I've hears that it's over 40 but 60 is really a lot
Titus Andronicus I think that BRG goes back to when the first races were held and the English races had to be held in Ireland. It was a thank you to them for letting us race there when racing was banned in England. So they chose for their colours I think shamrock green. So really Irish racing green.
@@terrybailey4201 IRG! That's awesome! Love the Irish :-)
@@terrybailey4201 You're quite correct in this matter, the British team ran in green as a mark of respect to their Irish hosts for the race.
Haha. They missed the song reference
I love jags
They all rust on the same place as water runs down the "window gutter" and finds its way down into to front fender. By sealing it proper at the transition section of the fenderand front window this make the water
run off to the front .
Many more samples
Yes those now classic Jags are fun to drive .
Drove mine across Europe .Ukraine to England and to Spain .
Without much problems.
Never a full moment when driving a classic Jag on the last open Road .
Had a 1997 3.6 one
wow, sounds great
The engine is really sweet in this one. Has been well looked after before it was parked.
Hi Adam
What a beautiful car that xj40 is
You will have to get a chauffeur so you can enjoy riding in the back lol
You dont appear to be at all put off by the rumours about the build quality of the xj40
Is it a bit of a myth or are you confident enough that you can tackle any mechanical issue
I mean, id be a total anxious wreck - has the trans be serviced has the engine been serviced where is the rust
I mean you dont seem phased
Good on you though 👍
Wish i had youre confidence & id go & buy that 89 daimler 180k for 3,000 (Aust) but i wont....not at the mo
Nice Purchase! The seat belts look pretty dirty, do you have a plan for those?
Yes they are pretty dirty. I will be cleaning them up when I clean up the interior
Do they still leak oil?.
Not really at all. Just from old hoses to the power steering and possibly the valve cover gasket
Good car. What year is it?
Thank you! It's a 1991, first on the road May 1991
Can you register this car with the XJ40 register please ... you can find them on Facebook
Sure I can do that
86 XJS my fav.
They are nice too
Were there CD,s in 1991, that's not a standard system,
It was standard for a rear CD changer on these in 1991
@@LivingWithAClassic well , I really didn't think they were out then ,, awesome,
Been marking its territory.......................
Oh yes it has... Fortunately it's only a hose from the powersteering pump. More on that in the next video
Living With A Classic I just had to replace my power steering high pressure hose that was leaking badly. Does your car still have the self-leveling suspension?
I do not know for sure yet but it looks like it still has it. There were no puddles on the ground from the back so if it's there it's working. In the next video I will see if it's still there
@@LivingWithAClassic A lot of people deemed the SLS 'problematic' and had it removed in favor of traditional coil-over suspension. Mine still has SLS.
The XJ40 was a failure model for jaguar as it lost its lines !
i love You channel. great content.
Thank you very much! 😊
Nice.
Thank you 😊
excelente
I love the interior on that Daimler, but when you showed the rear of your XJ6L I said Wow, that is a gorgeous car! BTW, Is there any evidence that anyone anywhere has ever picnicked in the back of a British car? I just can't imagine that.
I'm not sure but I will give a try! Picnic video coming up in the summer
Buy a v12 bro, you’ll never drive a “6” again
Already have 2 V12s
😁
I own both and love them equally for different reasons.
Don't know what year yours is* but I scanned & uploaded a 1988 Jaguar/Daimler brochure:
www.flickr.com/photos/54329998@N00/albums/72157688956376423/with/39853171433/
*My bad. You said it was a 1991 car.
Very nice brochure! I'll have to check it out in detail. Thanks for watching!
Seems lan oddly disrespectful way to describe a quality Damlair - a “cheap Jaguar”...
