Glad I caught your video, thanks for the visual info! Looks like it’s as miserable as I expected for its size, weight, flat hull shape. My single half day on fairly calm waters in one. Definitely well suited for canals, ponds, small lakes, and back water with ideal conditions. I was looking at the Lynx and the PA14 and after trying them there’s a clear set of fishing styles for each that they’re ideal for but both will fill in either niche on occasion. The Lynx felt far less stable when leaning from the seat where as the PA14 barely reacts. The Lynx really shines in its lite weight and smaller size making it a logistical breeze to haul and store and excels at minimalist fishing trips.
I went from a sportsman pdl 120, to a salty pdl, then to a lynx. I can say for sure, in the crazy port inlet washing machine rides, my lynx has literally zero pucker factor, compared to literally continuous pucker factor with the previous rigs. Then, in big breakers at sand bar, eaves just wash over n through, with hardly any issues of getting tipped, plus it floats so shallow, no more getting push against the bars either. Great boat, just gotta be a lil more careful with it’s shell. So stable.
A while back I searched for rough water reviews and nothing came up. Then months later here it is, without searching. Would have loved to see some following seas, and riding some of those swells broad side. But better than a lot of the vids out there
Funny how that works lol. Yeah I think I’m this video I really wasn’t testing it I was trying to get back to the ramp but I think it handles waves from those directions pretty good.
Can’t believe you didn’t look the little tackle boxes with all the water flying over it in that knarly stuff! Also, does the H crate lock into the kyak like on some of their other models?
Thanks for this review. I was wondering how well this yak would handle rough conditions. My last concern is how skinny it gets. You and I are roughly the build, so I'd be interested in knowing what your experience has been in skinny water on this yak.
Most people fish this area to get out of the wind. Usually a protected area. Bring banana next time. That wind would have peeled it back for ya. Looks like opening wkend of snapper season out there 🌊 Great review 👏 Might wanna see chiropractor after that beating
Bro i have the same boat and ive been in the very same situation. 3' white capped waves. I was SOAKED. 2 bags of tackle 5 rods and a powerpole. Im 6'3" 215. The lynx didn't even flinch. Powered right through.
I have a kayak identical to the hammerhead you tested and it also cuts through waves like this. However when you turn sideways is when things can get a little sketchy. The problem was the turning radius" large" so you feel vulnerable a bit too long for comfort ! Did you happen to catch any sideways? Great review!!!!
The Lynx handle chop and wind well, but its problem is coming back in if there are real waves, you have very little control on any steap waves coming back in.
Thanks for this video. Wanted to see on the water footage of bad weather which happens random here in Florida as well. I ended up getting a 2022 PA12 only because I got the best deal ever. Some guy used it twice, I picked it up for 3k & the lynx is 3k so I just had to go with the bigger boat just cause of the deal. But I’m still gettin a lynx so I can have options.
Objectively, you didn't seem to encounter much sideways waves how is it when the wave hits you from the side? Very interested in buying this kayak and the low front sucks but at the same time all the weight savings and such seems great and worth the trade off because most days I'm not in swell conditions per sé
That is an awesome Kayak brother. I appreciate you doing a review on it for us. I could definitely agree with you on that it was a wet ride alright. But if it was warm outside I know it felt good. I really like the fact how it holds you well man. Me and you are both the same in weight and height so that tells me how well the boat handles. That's funny how you try to add 100 Ibs to your self brother. I don't think you want 100 extra Ibs brother. I used to weigh 390 lbs & I'm so happy I lost it. I just wish I could lose some of this extremely wide foot I have. It's not easy trying to find Footwear for a foot that is 6 1/2 inches wide. Good video brother thank you for sharing.
Yeah the hobie Lynx is not intended to be a Ruff water kayak,,,would I buy one not on your life the ,, outback's,, pro angler,, Revo,, Adventure island,, Adventure ,,KAYAKS,,,,,shit on the Lynx,,,it's not what the Lynx was designed for flat water only,,,,, i do have a pro angler 12 ,,,,and a hobie adventure island 😊😊😊😊
This is the kinda review I have been searching for. Not some guy who weighs 140 soaking wet, but an actual full size human being. Thank you
Lol yep I’m definitely not those guys 😂
I agree. I'm 220 and looking for a bonus kayak in the PNW

Thanks for your comment. I was thinking exactly what you said. My thought was “hmmm handles like a Carolina skiff …… chop chop chop wet wet wet”
Been looking for a review like this as I'm currently looking at this "kayak". Thank you, and grat job ,sir.
Thanks for the review. Really helpful in my decision to pull the trigger on this kayak.
Awesome glad it was helpful!
Review cant get no better then that! Thank you!
Than you ma’am!

Awesome man glad it was a good upgrade I’m definitely digging the lynx myself.
Very helpful! Glad you came through it safe! Good video!
Yessir, thanks!!
Great review . This is the one I want . Thank you
Thanks man!!

Yeah it has tie downs in the back for it.

Thanks man, for me it floats in 6 inches of water it literally doesn’t sit in the water at all.

Great review 👏
Might wanna see chiropractor after that beating
Great review. Thanks.
🙌
It's like a submarine cruising on the surface 🤣🤣🤣 I think it's great👍🏽 Impossible to flip👌I sub bro
I’d sub for this one but I already am. Thanks for taking one for the team and showing what these things can endure.
Yessir!!
Great video and info dude thanks
Thank you!
Great review, well worth the watch!!!!
Thanks!!
My legs are hurting just watching you. Thanks and yes, it was helpful. I'm subbed and liked.
😂 thanks brother!
they should make a swivel seat !!!!!
Good stuff!
I wish TH-cam had a setting to reverse the GoPro effect. You know those waves were way bigger than the camera shows.
Yeah the wide lense of the GoPro throws the perspective off
Looks like a blast im jealous

Heck yeah man that’s awesome!
Top man, exactly the review I needed. How well does the thin hull stand up to beaching & launching?
You gotta baby it for sure. I cracked mine “minor crack” but was super easy to patch up.

Thanks. I didn’t really push the limits with side waves. This was a super rough day.
Maybe paddle and pedal at the same time to beat that wind?
Subbed! What a ride! I’ll take wet over drowned every time, I figured sitting that high might be a problem.
Man I can’t express enough how impressed I am with the stability and comfort of this rig.
Helpful video. This is about as rough as any water a kayaker should be fishing in.
Thank you
Not a kayaker yet but very interesting information . Fish on and BooM!
Great stuff brotha. Only thing missing is that song from Rocky 4, Robert Tepper's "No Easy Way Out" playing in the background 💪🤙😄
Lol hell yeah, I’m about to make that into a TikTok now 😂
What was the other kayak that day. How did it do? You would have gotten wet in a boat that day.
Hobie PA 14
Great review. Have you tried the old town salty pdl kayak? Like both hobie lynx and salty pdl
Haven’t tried that one yet.
I think the big plus for the Lynx is although it is a wet ride you’re not going to swamp it pretty much unsinkable.
Definitely
The Lynx handle chop and wind well, but its problem is coming back in if there are real waves, you have very little control on any steap waves coming back in.
Having tested in offshore swells yet.
If that’s “severe rough” I need to reevaluate my kayak/ solo skiff trips. Looked like a 5-10 mph day crossing the harbor to me lol
You should know better but it always looks better on camera than in real life

Understand that completely!

I’ve taken side waves and it still handles them pretty well.
Dang brother, that was a little bumpy! I would have had to call a time out and let the legs take a break! Looks like she handled it good though!
Lol surprisingly enough my legs held up pushing back.
good video - appreciate the info.
Thank you!
You might have had more noticable trouble if you were traveling in a fallowing sea i.e. waves at your stern.
What are your thoughts on the Hobie drive vs. a pedal drive?
Mirage drive is the way to go. It’s faster, has more torque, and gets shallow.
@@southernsalt thanks
Now that’s a real review! I have to agree with you best Kayak I have owned.. just sub you..
Awesome, thanks man!
I can feel the cramp already 😂
Lol surprisingly I was good lol
Imagine with the paddle that's a fast yak
Very fast and paddles easy

I’ll keep my Compass for a dry ride. Great video!
It’s definitely a wet ride lol
🤣 fishing a front up to last min got caught in 24-27 sustained w gusts mid 30 in outback - a long wet 2 miles into wind - thump splash - thump splash
Looks really cold 🥶…lol
It was ok lol
Leg day Nate
Every day 😂
This wind is not ever close to 30 mph and this thing is clearly not design to wind and choppy water. You were just lucky that it didn't end up badly.
Definitely a wet ride.
No doubt!
What swell and waves? That is nothing bro
🤦🏻♂️ don’t be that guy dude
@@southernsalt its not swell lol!😂😂😂😂
