Can Brabus Make the X-Class a Proper Mercedes?

- Let's explore the Brabus X250d! The X-Class is an unusual car for Mercedes, built on the base of a Nissan Navara and in this case with further personalisation by the experts at Brabus. But is it really a Mercedes, or is it just a badge?
The Brabus X250d takes power up from 190hp to 211 from the 2.3l turbo diesel, as well as torque from 450Nm to 510. It's not quick by any means, taking 11.5 seconds (vs 11.8s from factory) to get to 100km/h or 62mph. Cosmetically Brabus have sharpened up the appearance with a running lights installed beneath the bumper, a new exhaust system with quad tailpipes, the badges on the grille, larger 20" wheels rather than the standard 18"s and also the light bars on the top edge of the windshield.
Mercedes entered into the pick-up market in partnership with Nissan so the X-Class and Navara are based on one and the same. There are a number of different models available including a 2 liter petrol and 3 different diesel engines: X220d, X250d and X350d, but even many of the body panels are shared between the two cars. Unfortunately it's been made clear that there won't be an AMG version to come, so no big V8s sadly!
It has to be said though, the car has astounding presence, it genuinely seemed to turn heads and confuse onlookers and other drivers during my short test drive.

I'm pretty disappointed in this MB truck. MB should have developed a real truck with their expected quality.
They could've based it off the G wagon or unimog...

Yeah the gear lever is hideous. I would have thought they would put the standard Mercedes gear stick on the steering wheel area.

I was hoping Brabus went to town on this for fun! Obviously not.
As a Texan, I can tell you right now that that truck would never sell in the US. Trucks like the F250 are so nice inside and have 700+ ftlbs there is no point. Honestly it looks cheap and outdated
Mercedes x class is more likely an experiment it is not meant to fight Ford, dodge etc.

The X-Class is an embarrassment for Mercedes. I mean it literally looks like a nissan. They didn't even bothered to change the key or most of the interior. Not impressed...

The interior is completely different, the only shared component outside are the door handles, there are no shared body panels, even the chassis has been changed.
As a huge huge fan of Mercedes this vehicle truly breaks my heart. I know they could've done better.

Go drive both, you'll notice it's a way nicer car to be in. When it'll be available with the mercedes 6-cyl diesel, it will be something a lot more than just a Nissan.

I know majority will dislike this x-class so much but this vehicle is going to be very practical and a sold for the southern hemisphere like Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the Pasific. I'm from New Zealand and I've seen dozens of the x-classes already on the road.
Personally I think it is going to struggle here in the South African market because it is crazily overpriced

Mercedes shares and co-develops models with Nissan. The Infiniti QX30 is a Mercedes GLA. It has the GLA chassis, engine, but Infiniti changes he dash. I have the QX30, it even has the Mercedes key.

Wow, terrible terrible quality, a Raptor or a premium F150 is 10x more luxurious and way more capable. This is Mercedes going with the trend and just a simple and quick way to bring in more revenue, which is a smart business move of course, but this is so sub-standard for luxury: old mercedes nav & technology, terrible screen quality, hard plastic everywhere, that key ... and for what price?

That's so true. Fuel prices in Europe mean there is almost no market for trucks like the F150.
Brendan Fleming F150 Ecoboosts are more efficient that you think and, also because they burn regular grade gasoline, don't cost more much to fuel than your typical gasoline powered mid-size luxury car.
0:39 the x-classe is made by Nissan and Mercedes-Benz (but now modified by Brabus).

Unfortunately in todays market most brands have to fill all the market sectors to be profitable, so this is what most are doing to take their piece.... its always a gamble, gives to those who want a branded vehicle but takes a bit from those who buy the name on the upper end.... modern day marketing...

Brabus did a great job.
But that thing still looks like a Toyota Hilux.
We generally gauge the back (called a bed) by measuring the length of the bed. It's also quite common here in the states to add a rubber texture to the bed so your cargo doesn't go rolling around.

Make no mistake, Merc knew when they picked the Navara as a base for the X class , that it is the best in segment. Btw all the plastic is brilliant when you use it as intended...as a work horse, and it helps to be kid resistant as well. Not your style Shmee, but for us mere mortals it's a breath of fresh air. I love the work Brabus does, but they really need to rework those huge radar sensors. Really looks out of place and clunky.
I saw one on our road in Australia and I thought it was a Nevara with a Merc badge and this video confirms my speculation. People will buy it for 4x4 usage or other means useful but my word this is the worst car I’ve seen.

Brabus needed to do a lift kit,muddies,roo bar with winch and spotties,over fenders to match wider muddies.
And offroad gear. This just shows me that brabus is a cheap company that dont even care anymore and mercedes didnt go all out because the ute is going to get dirty and wrecked.
You dont want nice leather to get wrecked when taking it offroad etc
so what's better for the value then a navara or that ?
to make it fun and if you have the chance to do it, try and compare the X-Class to a VW Amarok thats a video i would love to see and that would also bee something new on the channel and maybe even attract a new audience, other than that, this is still a nice video and not something we see so often from you so its nice with something new :)

I worked on the particular car. I can confirm that it’s not a Mercedes at all. Even the Mercedes Star in the front grill had a Nissan Logo on it, before we put the B in it...

I share Tim's lack of enthusiasm for this. The base truck is almost £33k here in the UK (incl taxes) - that's $43,000!!! Not that anyone other than scaffolders generally drive trucks like that here.

Ford sold almost 900,000 f-series trucks last year. The Nissan Titan sold only 40,000 units. We know how to make trucks in the U.S.
Hunter Bull I respectfully disagree with you. North America use to know how to build a truck. However the trucks of today are so multi purpose and geared to far towards comfort. They are actually quite useless. We, in North America, need to stop demanding multi use vehicles and be a whole lot more like the rest of the world where vehicles generally serve one purpose and one purpose alone.
This is why it should have been launched in the US, Canada and Australia. No, they won't outsell the F150 because lots of them are fleet vehicles. But it could be an instant hit. Americans love trucks. There are no luxury trucks until the Lincoln Mark LT comes out again. Then Cadillac will roll one out.

Tim. Come to the US and test drive some trucks and get some experience. Some of these new trucks are crazy luxurious for what they are. You've got the raptor, the 19 ram and chevy and maybe even a GMC Denali. plus the HD 2500/3500 big boys. A lot of work for you.

Now that you have driven almost every car available to you. you should try and review cars that have been tuned and customised by aftermarket company's and compare the difference if the extra power or aftermarket bodykit was needed or improved etc

People who say the x-class sucks or is not a real merc are very super dumb... and they probably never see how the prestigious g-class from now sucked in 1970-80 .... i wish that car to be popular so it will be better and better every years just like the old g-class did to become what it is now

The only thing im trying to say is that, the g-class back then sucked very hard and everybody hated it, a bit like this new x-class. Yes the x-class is not a best seller for now, but give it some time and it will be a prestigious car.
