    Looks like my kind of place! You guys got a great deal too. I've never had a mosquito net on my bed before! I really liked the pool area - looks so tropical! I love all the palm trees. I always bring beach towels from home too since some resorts charge you crazy money if you lose the towel. A $100 massage is so expensive! When we go to beach places usually you can get one on the beach for about $40 which is much better!

    • @BeingBedingfield
      @BeingBedingfield  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, this was a great deal! A lot of countries in Africa still have malaria, so mosquito nets are quite common in hotels.

    • @BeingBedingfield
      @BeingBedingfield  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Werner, you must be getting so excited for your holiday 🤗
      We did the normal all inclusive. There was only one brand of beer included, Sawa. They pour it in small glasses, so order 2 at a time 😅 Craig did get the other brands of beer off the paid menu a couple of times. For me, the cocktails weren’t the best because they don’t use actual fruit juice, it’s made with like a juice mix…but I really enjoyed the G&T’s and the mojitos and never ordered cocktails off of the paid menu.
      We also bought some coconuts from one of the beach vendors and enjoyed them while swimming at high tide, so make sure to have a bit of cash if that’s something that you’d like (dollars or shillings)
      I also forgot to mention in the videos, expect to pay about a $40 ‘hotel fee’ upon check in, that caught us off guard 🙈

    Hi guys, thanks for the great content! One tip for tourists going to Zanzibar: jambo is not how Swahili people greet each other. It is just something that Zanzibaris say to tourists who don't know any Swahili. There are many different Swahili greetings, but you can get by with three main ones in Zanzibar:
    Mambo (Response: Poa). This is an informal greeting like "howzit".
    Hujambo (Response: Sijambo). This is a standard greeting like "hello, how are you?". It's a bit on the formal side for casual conversation, but is always a safe greeting to use if you aren't sure of the situation and don't want to cause offence. If you just want to learn one way to say hello, this is it.
    Shikamoo (Response: Marahaba). This is very formal, reserved for elders or people that you wish to show immense respect to.
    I would advise learning all three of these greetings before going to Zanzibar along with as-salaam-alaikum + wa-alaikum-salaam and habari (yako/zenu/ya .../za ...) + nzuri (sana). Greetings are a very important and beautiful part of Swahili culture and I think a little bit of time learning them is time well spent. It is a nice way to show respect to the local people and culture, and it will differentiate you from 99.9% of tourists who visit the islands.
    I hope you don't take this as criticism, Craig and Chantz. Your videos are great and you did way better with your Swahili than the vast majority of people! It's just a common misconception among tourists that jambo is a standard greeting that I think is worth correcting.
    Somewhat related, hakuna matata is also a phrase that is only used with tourists. If you want to say "no worries" in Zanzibar, you can say hamna shida :)

    • @BeingBedingfield
      @BeingBedingfield  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Derek, thanks for the comment 😊 Totally agree…we always take time in a new country to learn some of the basic language, and it really does go a long way with the locals. Thanks for sharing those greetings…I wish the locals taught us that 🙈 but we did notice that hakuna matata is very much a word used for tourists.
      Swahili is such a beautiful language though 😌
      One of our favourite words to learn is ‘cheers’…can you remind us what that is in Swahili?

    • @derekpillay
      @derekpillay 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BeingBedingfield, they were probably just being polite and didn't want to correct you (unlike me :p). You guys seemed really respectful (e.g. wearing appropriate clothing in town) and made an effort to interact and be kind with people, which is the main thing :)
      As for 'cheers' in Swahili, I'm not sure about that one. As someone who doesn't drink and given the culture in Zanzibar, I was never really in a situation with Zanzibaris where I needed that word but there could well be one I don't know about as my Swahili is only at an intermediate level. If not in Zanzibar, I am sure they would say this in other Swahili speaking areas where there is more of a drinking culture. Something for me to investigate next time I am there!
      Take care and keep making great content!

    This looked like such a beautiful trip! Thank you so much for sharing these tips! Regarding the all-inclusive drinks package: did that only apply to eating/drinking in the main dining hall, or did it also include drinks at the other beach bars you showed (that are still part of the resort)? 🤗

    • @BeingBedingfield
      @BeingBedingfield  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Shreya, thanks so much for watching, glad it helps a bit 😊 all-inclusive drinks are for any drink off the first page of the drinks menu at any of the bars, even the bar at the end of the jetty 🤗 drinks on the 1st page included soft drinks, coffee and tea (was too hot for that 😅), various cocktails (which were average), and my favorite was the g&t and mojito. The paid cocktails are the normal pina colada, etc…which I never tried, I was happy with my g&t and Craig loved the beer 😅
      This was when we were there in April, so hopefully nothing has changed since then 🙈

So we don’t know if that’s the norm, or if we got lucky 🤷🏻‍♀️😅 but even if it rains, it’s still hot, so you can definitely still swim.
