    36:52 I don't know if they realize how accurate this really is. There are Norwegian cops reality shows, and they're just as timid as you'd think. I remember one episode's highlights was when the cops spotted a teenager riding his motorbike with an invalid license plate, and then giving him a warning, and the cops pulling over by a suspiciously parked car where it turned out a man had just gone out to have a wee. And that was the episode over.

    Regarding morels, I happen to forage for them every year and I have since I was a child. They are massively popular here in Michigan, and they're almost impossible to misidentify. They can be farmed and are farmed by many, many people, it's just a very difficult and slow process. As for false morels, they are a kind of beefstake mushroom and look almost nothing like morels, and they aren't even poisonous, in fact many people look specifically for them to eat as a delicasy similar to the morel mushroom, but some people happen to be allergic to it. As for the reason there are "false mushrooms", it is likely a case wherein the actual false mushrooms are the ones you eat, as they evolved to mimic the appearance of the poisonous mushrooms, however, this is likely not the case with morels, because, as I stated before, they look almost nothing like beefsteaks. Watch them not even read this comment xD.

    4:30 Neanderthals literally were superhumans, they were far larger and more muscular than us on average, needing far more calories on a day to day basis in order to sustain themselves. They also had an extensive knowledge of the edible and medicinal plants found in their environment.

    • @DrD0000M
      @DrD0000M 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Shorter though and likely didn't have great running endurance. "Modern" humans have extremely high endurance for jogging nonstop great distances, more than most any animal.

    • @Cyndayn
      @Cyndayn 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@DrD0000M Neanderthals actually weren't all that much shorter on average than modern humans. We used to think so because the first Neanderthal skeleton found was of an old, arthritic man. In fact if you compare human skeletons found from the same time period as that of neanderthals, the height difference is even less. Some scientists believe that homo sapiens was able to outcompete homo neanderthalis when climates changed because we were able to cooperate better, and needed less food to sustain ourselves in times of difficulty since we had less muscle mass.

    I think that sips identifies a good part of the problem of climate change; that it's non-obvious. But, I think the second part of the problem is that there is no easy solution. How do you reduce carbon emissions without tanking the world economy?
    There is a lot more below, enter at your own risk!
    The real problem is that oil, gas and coal are very efficient fuels for the effort that it takes to produce them. Replace all vehicle with electric? Where is the energy coming from? If it's from traditional sources then you're just moving the problem up the chain. Solar and wind are good where they work but are not full time solutions and require either more reliable generation to pick up the slack or hugely inefficient and toxic batteries to store it. Hydrogen is very volatile, hard to store and use safely when compared to relatively inert gas, oil, and coal. You can put out lit cigarettes in a cup of gas, it's the fumes that are volatile and gas is easy to store in relative safety. Put that same cigarette in hydrogen and its Hindenburg time. Hydrogen is also hard to work with because its the lightest element. It will, given time, osmosis it's way out of any container you put it in and it' hard to get it to flow right which is one reason they abandoned hydrogen fueled rocket engines pretty early in the space program.
    Nuclear fission is a good low pollution alternative but everyone is afraid it's spitting atoms at them even though nuclear power is very safe and the waste product, while very dangerous, is small in quantity and the technology to safely store it or even reuse it is decades old. But, more importantly, nuclear fission is EXPENSIVE to set up and maintain and you had better maintain it because... well you know why.
    Fusion power, despite literally trillions of dollars invested, remains 'about thirty years away' and has been 'about thirty years away' longer than I've been alive and I'm well past 30. Maybe, there will be a breakthrough in the next while and we can just switch to that but it's possible that there won't be a break through at all. Maybe the material science for plasma confinement is just too hard.
    That's just a few of the many, many problems. Which is not to say that we should just throw up our hands and give up. I think that it's important to realize that the problem is hard and personal responsibility will never be the solution both because expecting everyone to just cut back is wildly naive and that's not really where the problem lies. I do not own a vehicle, I can walk to all the facilities and stores that I need to go to and I work from home. If I need to go farther I rent a car. But, I don't expect this to be a viable solution for most or even many people. The solution will be a technological one not a personal responsibility one.
    Take heart though! Many smart folks around the world are grinding away at all these problems and new solutions are zipping down the pipe all the time. If you want to cut back then by all means do so and feel good about it but don't expect everyone to do it because that's just nuts. Give money to ecological charity's, foster a love of science and learning in your kids, live your best life. Try not to add to the misery of the world with the condemnation of others even if you think you're justified. This is, by far, the best time to be alive.

      Michael Newton the problem is every fucking activist is shouting in people’s faces about how much of a piece of shit they are because they use plastic straws. It’s actual fear mongering when they say we have literally 9 years left before we destroy the world. And they act like the people that don’t believe that are the scum of the earth and are responsible for genocide. All the activist do is fear monger and tell you that if you aren’t living in a grass hut and only eat things you find in nature you are responsible for killing the planet and should be killed.

      just because they're hypocritical doesn't make their argument invalid.
      google tu quoque ad hominem
      not to say that makes it any less depressing.

      @@jimmyhenders4131 no, it doesn't make it invalid but it is still sickening how some people abuse serious subjects just to get fame or social standing.

      Tell that to the environmental nuts like Greta or Leo DiCaprio whom all fly in on different jets to that event instead of jet-pooling. Freaking hypocrites.

    Yes, in Sweden it's working quite well these days. Rehabilitation is put before punishment. Work 6 hours/day, spend at least one hour outside, cook your own food, calls to your family every day, treatment for your phsycological problems/drugs etc.
    This is the only thing that is sensible in my opinion. Capital punishment is taking the power of "god" in to your own hands.

    There's not much edible I won't eat based on principle alone. The only 3 things I can think think of off the top of my head are humans, cats and dogs.
    Note: There's plenty I wouldn't eat, but I'm just referring to what I wouldn't eat based on the principle rather than based on taste, price, etc.

    Back of the envelope, so approach with skepticism, but;
    The volume of the ocean is 1.335 billion cubic kilometers. The specific heat capacity and density of seawater is 3850 joules per kilogram Kelvin difference and 1025 kilograms per cubic meter respectively. Using E = C * m * dT for a rise of 1 degree Celsius, the total thermal energy increase would be 5,268,000 thousand petajoules. This is about the same amount of energy that would be released by detonating a 1,259,000,000,000,000 tonne pile of TNT, that's more than half the approximate mass of Mount Everest. Or, 180 trillion million times the energy released during the detonation of the most powerful nuclear weapon ever tested; the Tsar Bomba.
    This is assuming the whole ocean warms, but you get the point.

    I agree, every Summer is getting wired for Triforce, you guys don't need to worry, (I know you could give less of a shit Pyrion) you will always have your ravenous fan base of "0.5" Viewers. (according to sips)
    Oh, and Lewis? Please never read about anything educational, I love your uneducated dynamic, keep it up I love these Lewis roasts.
    Nah, just kidding, Lewis, you do you. and if this comment gets enough likes, a message to you guys: "Please stop scrolling down for a sense of community, this is youtube, you're only scrolling down out of morbid curiosity."
