I was born and raised in the USA, but ALL my family and wife's family are from Argentina. I've lived down there. I know how it works down there. I can assure you that Black people will be fine down there. There's no overt racism (or at least not any more than everywhere else in the world). Like everywhere in the world, people are naturally more comfortable, initially, with their "own type" but beyond that, there's no reason for a Black man (or woman) NOT to go visit Argentina. No matter what your race, gender, etc, the way YOU treat people is the main thing that impacts how THEY will treat you back. Go with a positive attitude, be friendly, smile, and your experience will be a lot like Auston's. One last comment: remember that other parts of Argentina are nothing like Buenos Aires. It's like comparing Indiana to New York City. Argentina is huge and varied, just like the USA.

Outstanding... spot on comment! "...the way you treat people is the mail thing that impacts how they will treat you back..." so true 99% of the time (the other 1%?? well, a friend always says something like "both mosquitoes AND assholes are to be found everywhere" :-)

@@Horizon429 That would be xenophobia, not racism, because it is based on country, not race.
Second, Mexicans and Brazilians are racist against their own people, Brazilians tend to be xenophobic against some countries 🤷
There are hundreds, thousands of Bolivians living in Argentina, they were never attacked for being Bolivian, just because you see a behaviour of young people on the internet against people from x country, doesn't mean it's the standard for the people of the country (which also happens in almost every country, they are all capable in the anonymity of the internet).
The Argentinians doesn’t think of themselves as the "Europeans of Latin America", but there is a sense of pride about their ancestors and recognition of their culture (since the beginning there have been Galician, Italian, German and other "communities", where the elders who came from those countries went to meet and chat with their peers, their children and grandchildren did the same in order to preserve cultural elements).
That you live thinking that 5 or 10 people are the norm in a country with more than 46 million people, speaks volumes about you.

we Mexicans are not racists as a general, mostly clasist.. But There are racist in every country.. remember in ARgentina there are racists towards peruvians.. remember that documentary where they said Argentinians used "peruvian face" as an insult¿¿ or when toy call "cabecita" as an insult
But to be honest here in México we have many Argentinians that escaped from Argentina looking for oportunities and yes sometimes Mexicans are xenophobic towards them calling the "hambrientinos"@@HeroedoSol

    • @HeroedoSol

@@shiroumxm2052 Mexico is a country with racism, and racial classism is a subset of racism. There is racism towards darker-skinned people and/or those with more Native American features in Mexico, particularly from white individuals who hold derogatory, negative, and demeaning stereotypes about them. Isn't that racism? It's even sadder when it happens within their own country, to their own people.
Regarding Peruvians, it's not just an Argentine thing, as this discourse exists throughout South America. There are racial stereotypes, but being Peruvian doesn't automatically make people look down on you. Argentina is home to Peruvians, Bolivians, Paraguayans, and other people, and it doesn't matter where someone is from, whether Peru or Madagascar.
Similarly, when you say "in Mexico, we are not generally racists," it's clear that not everyone is racist (clearly), but the racism against their own people exist. In Argentina, not everyone is racist either. Furthermore, pointing out a racial stereotype doesn't automatically make someone racist (let's remember the definition of racism: "An ideology that advocates for the superiority of one ethnic group over others and justifies their economic exploitation, social segregation, or physical destruction").
As for the term "Peruvian face," although it is used derogatorily and shouldn't be said at all, it's not something exclusive to Argentina.

I disagree with you. People like to say it and repeat it a lot. Most people that say it, haven't even BEEN to Argentina. And your comment doesn't even make sense. How would Argentines (who are white), be "racist" to the English, who are ALSO white. @@Horizon429

In my country we value good manners, don t care about the skin, language or cultural background. Good manners maketh man! If you have good manners you will be welcomed everywhere in argentina. If you have bad manners you will be seen as agressive no matter if you are a white hair nordic elf :P And dude, you came only to buenos aires, but you should have visited the south, it s basically a love postcard of switzerland but with argentinians :P And the north in the jungles of misiones you can get lost like you are in several other countries at once. As a porteño I was very ignorant of the topographics of my country so we managed to travel to the north and south and all my dreams of visiting europe vanished. I particularly love the south, it s beautiful. Anyway, glad you have such a great experience. Next time try the vegan food as well, go to La Reverde for the best vegan chorizo or asado.

The TH-cam blogger “ACE” was in Argentina for a few weeks a year ago. He had the time of his life. One thing I learned from “ACE” is if you want a busy social life in Argentina take “Sousa” dance lessons. In fact, (#1) learn as much Spanish as you can if needed, (#2) definitely take “Sousa” dance lessons if one plan on spending a lot of time in Spanish speaking countries. I had a beautiful Colombian lady coworker once who was a little shy but she would turn on that famous Sousa instrumental music while on breaks and just shake her cute little body. ACE was interviewing a black Argentinian man in his seventies who was also a good Sousa dancer in a club with his daughter. White women was coming over to the table and asking the older black guy to Sousa dance with them during the interveiw. And he was cutting a rug on the dance floor with those young ladies.😀

I never took a bad approach when they corrected my pronunciation or explained to me the meaning of a word. After all, English is not my mother tongue.
