    Have you already started utilizing the long hooks and uppercuts?
    If you haven't I hope this video helps you add them in.

      Long hooks were a complete game changer for me. In my muay thai gym, people are simply not used to defending hooks at the range of straights. Once the long hook clicked for me, I doubled-tripled the amount of which I land in a very short while. Question though, do you perform it with elbows/arm tighter in towards the body as to not loop/swing as wide?

    That long uppercut is one of Ngannou's best shots. With his power and reach, it's really dangerous, check out Overeem vs Ngannou.

    I don't know the rules of boxing so I don't know if this is illegal but I do remember seeing some boxers use the long upper cut with a little bit of a pop up. You make a small jump while you're throwing your long upper cut. You still get the hip power, but you also kind of get the thrust of the jump. The only boxer whose name comes to mind is Prince Naseem. In terms of the hook... The MMA that I learned did everything from the Ninjutsu stance. The main point is that you don't want to telegraph your attacks. And so even the attacks that are normally very wide and sweeping attacks, you narrow them. When you throw a crescent kick, it's a sharp crescent. And so we threw our hooks long and narrow the same way that we did our crescent kicks. At first, it's a little difficult to adjust. But I found executing techniques in the least telegraphable, most narrow boundaries, made it more likely that I was going to get a successful hit. We did train the wider hooks and the shorter hooks, though there was a strong emphasis against this tendency of kind of choking your strikes and towards clean cleaner, more accurate strikes before considering power. "Learn the technique. Speed and power come with practice." And so because there was that focus, the longer strikes were more reliable. You're already thinking about it from technique and how you use your body to make your attack the most effective. It's also a lot easier to execute accurate strikes if you have more confidence in your execution of them, and so building technique helped with that too.

    Do you think it would be more effective to drill this on an aqua bag, a regular heavy bag, or pads? Or does it just come to personal preference? Love your content Gabriel!

      pads homie. you want some movement and yr pads partner to get the range right. yr pads partner can also help advise if you are utilising your hips and footwork correctly. you can learn bad errors working on heavy bags if yr teacher isn't looking at yr technique

    • @paulpelle3046
      @paulpelle3046 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rawke7279 nice points bro...pads and a partner are ultra important for perfecting techniques, and a good partner will give you that constant feedback loop to absolutely nail each strike...speeds up the learning process and muscle memory to an amazing rate.👌
      We ALWAYS work in partners on the bags. One partner on, one partner off (encouraging, helping technique, tapping head if partner’s guard starts dropping), and usually doing a floor exercise for a percentage of their off round. We also work in 3s and 4s on Punisher Round nights. 💪🙏

    The way you throw the long hook by turning the hand over is more like an overhand. Since i based my training for MMA gloves and bareknuckle, i never like using closed fist long hook like they do in boxing since it's very easy to make contact with the small bones on the finger. In short, i resulted to copying Diaz brothers and just slap people from long distance if i want to throw a curve shot, way safer and still deal great damage

    Being 6’4 and fighting at 199lbs I’ve always instinctually knew that this was an effective shot for me. Especially when putting it behind something like a cross to the body, because a well placed cross to the body tends to push people backward, and then they feel like they are out of range but they’re not… The cross loads the weight toward the lead hand and then that long sweeping lead hood can cover way more ground than the opponent tends to expect. It’s a fantastic shot that many fighter like Floyd Mayweather have utilized to great success.

    I have trouble with the long hook, it bothers my wrist. Have to make some adjustments, I have always favored hooks at close range.

      @kobeborce-quon1345 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Had the same problems try tightening your wrist and arm before you decide to throw it turn it over use the palm down hook it’s more natural for the long hook most important thing is to stabilize your wrist so it doesn’t cave in upon impact causing pain or breaking your hand

    i use bolo punch a lot as i am 6'6. gotta say its a good idea to dress it up before throwing and be aware that by throwing it u become very open for a hook especially if u r throwing to tha body. in my opinion its safer to throw a straight shot with yo thumb up off yo chest and right off the jab. they call it missile' in DC. less power but way less open as u remain with yo opposite shoulder in front. but the idea is the same - pick it up - take it out.

    • @samanthahydeker7914
      @samanthahydeker7914 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could you explain me the bolo punch? I recently read it in a book, but I still i don't understand it.

    • @konpoy
      @konpoy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@samanthahydeker7914 the way i understand it, its a long uppercut like punch off the hip that is usually 'dressed' by a bunch of punches (or at least a jab) in a combination beforehand. can be thrown both to body or head (chin preferred). although a power punch still i like the idea of picking up the chin with it and then taking it over by a lead hook or a back hand. but of course u can look up a bunch of videos on it. useful to me because in boxing particularly shorter fighters tend to get low so the text book uppercut to tha body for me is hard on my legs.

  • @myrusEW

    I visualize the ends of my arms are super dense rocks. Then I throw them. When I traditionally think “punch”, it’s more of a pushing motion. When I think “throw” it’s more natural. Humans are the only animal that can “throw”, after all.
    Point being, if you visualize throwing something, I believe it’s easier for most human brains to understand the mechanics. Humans are naturally grapplers and throwers, not punchers, which in this analogy would be something like a kangaroo or horse with their power kicks or a snake/cat with their speed strikes.

    I almost got hit with a long uppercut and I knew by the small breeze I felt after it it would be devastating if it landed. I would be saying hello to the floor.

    The former 150lbs KC Champ (Edgar Skrivers) got dethroned by having a tight guard & getting hit with long hooks to the sides of his head. The new champ wound up his long-hook/ overhand more than what is necessary but sometimes winding up techniques can be alright when the opponent is already dazed. A long uppercut is great when exploding forward since its hard to get rotation, the other way of power generation is forward momentum. A jab to long front hook/ overhand works well moving forward as well as a counter lead overhand/ long hook.

    The 'long range uppercut' you are describing is usually referred to as a shovel hook - where forearm is at an angle to torso (whereas an uppercut has forearm parallel to torso). But I personally find more power with either, when using lateral torso leverage in opposite direction to that of a hook. Also with your hook: make sure it's horizontal fist, as that will naturally want to loop.
