  • Horn Peak, Colorado's 289th tallest, is a 9 mile out and back trail located near Westcliffe and is only recommended for very experienced adventurers. When you see the Sangre de Cristo Range's ragged sawtooth sillouhetted against the sky from the Wet Mountain Valley floor, Horn Peak is a dominating presence amidst an impressive vista. This massive mountain's position, jutting east of the range crest by Humboldt Peak, means it's very visible from places like the town of Westcliffe.

I can see clearly that there is less pollution in the atmosphere

One of my favorite climbs (we went up it 4 times). Because it sits east of the main crest of the Sangre's, it was always clear of snow early and a great conditioning climb.

A lot of fun 13ers to do in the Sangre De Cristos if you don't mind a little steep class 2. Haven't done Horn yet thanks for showing this hike to us will definitely have to put it on my to do list.

It looks like a FUN look with no more than class 3 scrambling and 4 in some spots. September would be a fantastic time to do it!

5:54 It's crazy to think there are open spaces like that without houses built on them.

Thanks for taking us along. I still do some hiking at 76, but could never do the ones you do. Come and hike in the Black Hills sometime.

Isn’t there a medallion at the summit? Went up there June 1975, that exact route

I still have my certificate! I remember crawling on all 4 up to the summit and looking down at mountain goats!
