It's actually a Crossover, not an SUV. Crossovers in the same segment are Palisade, Sorento, Santa Fe, RX5, CX8, Okavango. They have a lower ground clearance. SUVs are Montero, Fortuner, Everest, Terra, MUX. Higher ground Clearance. SUVs and Crossovers differ a lot. Since SUVs are higher than crossovers, they also have higher center of gravity. This means they have more tendency of having more body roll at tight sudden turns. Crossovers are compact and lower with their car-based platforms for better handling in sharp narrow turns, city traffic, or even mountain passes.
Since you mentioned ground clearance, do you even know the ground clearance of this mid size SUV? Everest 230mm CX-9 222 mm Montero 218mm Fortuner 216mm This has a bigger platform than all you mentioned above: Not even close for Montero and Fortuner CX-9 - 5075 x 1969 (LxW) Everest - 4914 x 1923 (LxW) Fortuner - 4795 x 1855 (LxW) Montero - 4825 x 1815 (LxW) The CX5 however fits the one you are describing (a crossover - In reality it is still SUV but categorized as Compact SUV or small sized SUV), so the crossover is just a term to simplify the category name. Great review, Mazda is a great small car company In Japan I have owned 3 cx9 Grand touring here in the US. 2010, 2014 and 2019 and love them. best crossover vehicle overall in its class.

Definitely, though it's mainly because the CX-9 is a higher-end SUV that competes with the Ford Explorer, Subaru Evoltis, Hyundai Palisade, Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, etc. so that's already a given. Gas consumption could be an issue though since this is a turbo gas engine, though most buyers in this segment have a low priority for fuel consumption.

Not just in performance, but the suspension is one of the softest we’ve ever experienced in a Mazda. Unlike the CX-9 which begs to be driven in a spirited manner, the CX-8 is at its element when driven sedately. And then surprisingly in terms of fuel economy, the CX-9 is just 0.5 to 1 km/l less fuel efficient, so the penalty is very much worth it especially due to the significant performance advantage.
Mazda’s free maintenance program is now good for 5 years from the previous 3 years. I personally own a 2018 Mazda 6 Wagon and I never paid a cent in maintenance costs 👍 -Isaac
Its not even large. Its small trying to be big. Its basically a car on stilts. Compare it to Santa Fe, to Forester. Its a small midsize. Ford Explorer is executive midsize and not small midsize. When it gets old, it looks common. When its dirty, you wont even notice it.

Not yet. For now, it's just the CX-8 AWD Exclusive, CX-5 Signature Diesel, CX-30 AWD Sport/Signature, and the 2.0-liter variants of the Mazda 3.
