- this video is my magnum opus. anyways i was a huge vld fan in the past, so i thought i would share the experience with the rest of you!
(cross ur fingers eyes and toes that i don't have to reupload this again in the future cuz i am NOT missing out on what another half hour long video could get me)

Man, This got me nostalgic. VLD was a huge part of my life, And I remember when season one first came out. I was hooked. It was a huge special interest for me for a long time, Until i just.. Well, Lost interest. I stopped after season seven. But I *did* hear about season eight. Thought not as bad as people sometimes say, it still is pretty bad, With allura's character specifically irritating me a little. (no, it's not because she "killed klance," it's because they killed her off for no reason and redeemed EVERY SINGLE galra ever, even the oppressive ones.) that being said, This video was great, And after these few years, I still believe in Coran Supremacy. 🧡

On the note of gay rep in VLD, in the lead up to season 7 they actually used the reveal that Shiro is gay and had a fiance as a marketing tactic. They posted about how 'Shiro and his fiance are in this new season!'
So getting hyped about this and then actually watching the series, seeing that they only very vaguely alluded within the show that they had a romantic relationship, almost instantly showing Adam being killed, and then Shiro barely reacting for 5 seconds upon seeing the name of his ex-fiance on a memorial, after learning Adam was dead, and that the last time Shiro ever saw him was them ending things because he chose to go on the mission that lead to him being held prisoner and traumatised????
I remember being so, so mad and betrayed at the time!!
Another thing I wanted to mention was the fact that the creators actively lied in interviews about their intentions for the show, story, and characters. The big sticking point I remember being used to support the 'Klance Endgame' theories was them saying 'Lance will be someone's FIRST CHOICE.'
Since Allura had never really shown overt romantic insterest in Lance at that point, and seemed find his advances annoying, this stuck out to people. THEN when Allura fell for Lotor, people were CONVINCED this was a slam dunk for Klance, because now Lance could never be Allura's first choice, right? ,,,R-right?
I feel that if the creators had been more straightforward about their intentions from the beginning (which in this case might have been impossible because they threw out the show bible that got VLD greenlit in the first place and might have not known wtf they were planning themselves), people might have been fine with klance not being canon in the end.
I don't see fans of sports anime that ACTIVELY gay-bait ever getting even close to this mad at ships not being canon, but that might change if the creators of like, Free! ever came out and said 'Haru will end up with someone he's known since childhood and is very focused on 😏' and then he ended up with like. Gou or something???
The death threats and harrassment are inexcusable, but I understand where the general air of disappointment and anger came from. It was nice in the fallout of season 7 and then season 8 to see all the fix-it fanart, comics, etc. people were making, aka channeling their disappointment into something productive, instead of harrassing the staff.

i absolutely commend the free! comparison that was so good i need to have my sister help me make a video about free! BUT ANYWAY i honestly didn't keep up with any advertising ahead of vld seasons or any interviews and to tease that much and then deliver so abysmally is so appalling oh my god..
there were so so many things wrong with the choices that got made like. so many i could make an entire extra video out of it,, like that disappointment was where the whole allura section came from because i feel like she's widely hated for things that were just thrown into her writing but honestly everything felt thrown together near the end,,
vld started with a bang and died with a whimper but at the very least we do have the few good things from it and from what i can tell klance does live on through very dedicated and nostalgic fans which i think is beautiful.. hopefully in the future we'll get some stronger and better written representation in animation that follows in the footsteps of what klance was setting up to be
I love Voltron. It is my favorite show! I am disappointed with the ending tho. Like, why kill Allura?
It's kinda funny how the fandom is still kind of alive just because of how salty people are from the ending. Most people just have their own version of the ending. XD
i don't blame them, most of the ending sucked 💀

IKR LOL. i fixed everything that the copyright listed so it should be okay, worst case it'll just get demonetized if they do find an issue later down the line but i don't really care abt the money as much as i care about it staying up
hi! thank you for making this video, I was (& still kinda am) a huge VLD fan, so hearing you go over all the details was fun & interesting.
I think one of the reasons klance fans were so desperate for it to be canon (myself included) is that in that point in time, there wasn't really much, if any, explicitly gay (mlm) representation in cartoons/animated shows. That in no way EVER justifies any of the gross threats that were made, to be clear, but the thought of seeing a gay enemies-to-lovers romance play out on-screen, knowing there might be a chance that that could be real, was so so very desired.
Even these days, I struggle to think of more than two or three mlm couples that are (both) notable/main characters in cartoons. It's wild to think about how dedicated fans were to klance becoming canon, but the disappointment of that much needed representation being nonexistent was potent because we wanted so much to see ourselves & our peers in cartoons.
Of course, no show ever owes the audience gay representation, but it was just disappointing seeing the potential of what could've been, turn out to be nothing.

THANK YOU SO MUCH yea i think it's a really good point that, if it were made canon, klance would have been pretty revolutionary at the time,, i personally also wanted it to become canon and i was disappointed to see it didn't go that direction but hopefully we'll be getting some more positive and well-written mlm representation from something soon!!
