    My present kilt/utilikilt collection is 14. I wear a kilt 7 days a week Spring, Summer and Fall. My first kilt was Clan Lamont, my Clan.

      Cool! And to answer your question, I have 15. One is 30 years old, and all the rest are newer since I found USA Kilts a couple of years ago. Eric's response, "five," is about right. Take your time and choose carefully. And, if you need help with that, calling the company will be a big assist. Can't beat their assistance.

    I work a farmer's market in kilts. Since I'm in Florida, it is mostly hot and humid and heat and sweat are an issue. Also, the set up and take down of my booth is dirty and messy. I have around 10 kilts. Two good kilts including my clan tartan. The other "work kilts" are the inexpensive acrylic kind. I pay around $30 for those.

    • @jefflaw6013
      @jefflaw6013 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Cheryl Allison it is a trade off. I'm getting messy and eat sitting at the booth. Not worried about stains and sangs. I would be too nervous with something I paid a lot for.

    I currently have 2 pv kilts from U.S.A kilts with 3 more on the way from another supplier and 3 great kilts on the burner.. between those and my buckskins I’m gonna be able to keep EVERYBODY guessing what they’re gonna get with me walking out the door everyday!!

    I'd guess if you wore kilts every day, you'd have as many as you would pants.
    So how many pairs of pants do someone who wears them everyday have?
    I have maybe 10-12 pairs of pants and only wear like 3-5 of them.

    I have been wearing a kilt every day for 8 or 9 months. I own 5 but only wear 4. The first one I got was super cheap and looks like it. I have a black cotton utility kilt, a tartan PV utility, a PV casual and a 5 yd wool in a family tartan. I wear different ones for different occasions, and have enough shirts and kilt hose that I can mix up the look. I am planning to get more kilts in the near future.

    I am crazy, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I have 8 wool kilts of various weights, qualities and value, four acrylic/pv kilts and one utility kilt, soon to be two. A couple of the PV I have had for 8+ years and they are more my knock around/work kilts. I like having some options, although I do ‘gravitate’ towards certain ones. I do have the kilt I was married in, which wear sparingly (maybe because it ‘shrunk’ over the past few years).

    I was up to 7, but then I started getting in proper shape and losing weight around the middle LOL. So, I'm in a flux at the moment, and I'm ordering an occasional new kilt as I shrink. Once I reach and maintain my goal waist size, well, the sky and my income will be the limit!

    • @la_old_salt2241
      @la_old_salt2241 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Timothy, you can have your kilt that you've shrunk out of re-sewn to your current size. I'm in the same boat at the moment and had my original kilt in Angus District tartan taken in once already. Will probably do it again.

    My story was and is that I started out with a kilt from the Renaissance festival based on my ancestors. Then I found I had a lot more ancestors that were Scottish. Loving my kilt, I found the kilt to be a great way to have all of my family tartans and also wear them to honor them. Some kilts I have are repeats of the same tartan because one is also a utility kilt and the other is traditional style. I currently have 12 kilts and counting. I can literally wear one monday through friday for two weeks straight if I wanted to.

    To be fair, I don't know that we ever actually washed our kilts at VMI (Pipe and Drum Corps) until they got handed off to the next person...or possibly when they got turned in at the end of the year for storage. Only 1 kilt per person. They didn't quite stand up on their own, but the hose did after awhile! I think our general thought process was the laundry service would jack them up, and the rain we occasionally marched in washed them off. We wore them at least once a week throughout the school year for parades, plus special events. So usually an hour or two for regular parades. The NYC parade, Mardi Gras, Celtic Festivals, Football games, and the like were usually longer, but not as frequent.

    I have 7 and stash fabric for at least 4 more. I'm a piper so they're all wool. And I'm just too lazy to wash them, because the lining, interfacing, buckles, and straps all have to come off/out. And, it all has to go back in/on and has to be repressed. Oy vey! Then again, I'm not rolling around on the ground or maneuvering obstacle courses either. All I do is let it dry out and hang it back up. If I find a spot, I'll take care of that al momento and it's good to go.

    One thing not mentioned is that even quality 8yd wool kilts "wear out" with regular wear. The front apron becomes worn and threadbare rubbing against the sporran, the colours fade, the pleats start to curl out, and the garment generally loses its shape. Agreed, some won't mind that as long as it's still wearable.
    Regards 8 yard wool kilts for regular wearers (serial kilters), I'd say ideally one or two for dress occasions, and several more for everyday according to your budget.

    I'd say 3 minimum. One to wear, one spare and one in the 'wash'. Granted you can go a bit before you need to wash it, doing it after a single wear is not good for the life of the kilt.

  • @anthonystike6034

    I have to agree with Eric about owning one kilt. Yes you need to wash it, so wash it. At the end of each day, wash it in the bathtub with some woolite, and you dont have to wash it every single day, hang it up to dry and dont sleep in a kilt. Hopfully its dry by morning.
