Don't we have to split the annulus and paste it back together with a limit to deal with the fact that an annulus isn't simply connected? The path you gave is fine, but only because there's a line connecting the circles that you didn't cross, which is how you know which direction you need to pick to go around z.
The Bright Side of Mathematics also have not published any linear algebra video in his series for several weeks. Very strange. Why this hate for Linear algebra? :)
