The older I get, the more convinced I am that Heaven - if it exists - is a lot like the Christmas season when you're a child: Endless excitement, breathless anticipation of what's to come, bright, colorful, and beautiful things everywhere, being surrounded by loved ones, you don't have any worries or cares, you have endless goodwill towards everyone, and it all feels like it will never end.
My thoughts and beliefs exactly. Lots of nights spent shopping at the mall. Driving home in the rain with Christmas songs on the radio. Blurry Christmas lights though the rain covered windows.
Not a 90s kid but I was born in 2000 and I remember the early 2000s and my parents hosting Christmas at our house with so many relatives coming over. Having the house full of people and hearing laughter all around was the greatest feeling ever . Miss those days
I was just looking at Christmas photos from the 90s, like my grandmother watching us open presents, or that year we got everything imaginable (bikes, giant bears, etc), or the year I was in the Christmas pageant and then watering our Christmas tree from an old refilled seltzer bottle, in a velvet dress with crocheted lace collar… the tree each year covered in silver tinsel , red accents, popcorn garlands… it is literally not the same anymore. Thank God I have these memories and the photos to back them up.
The 90’s were the best. My best memories are from the 90’s. My mom was alive & life was good. I was so happy & didn’t know it. Even the 90’s movies are still the best to this day❤ makes me emotional.. miss my mom, miss the old days
Christmas in the 90’s was special to me. I lost that feeling for about a good 2-3 years in the mid 2000’s but I got the feeling back after those years .
This reads like I had written it. I think those difficult years were the ones adapting to Christmas as an adult. I love Christmas and I think if you’re lucky enough to have had good ones as a kid, as an adult you spend the rest of your life chasing that feeling.
I was 13 years old in 1997 I had my PS1 with Silent Hill, Resident Evil and Final Fantasy VII My grandparents were still alive I had close friends I miss those days like a starving man longs for food 😩 It wouldn't be so bad if my adult years had something to replace the joy of childhood But there isn't It's just work, bills, responsibility Indebted to someone else Adulthood is a grotesque parody of what life should be
Your last line sums it up: 'adulthood is a grotesque parody of what life should be'. We weren't prepared for what was to come. Our parents worked and we were taught that getting a good job and feeding into capitalism was to be the main goal. We're close in age, I was 17 in '97. Christmases aren't the same and nothing is the same. This year, doesn't even feel like Christmas to me. I see the lights on the houses but if not for that, I wouldn't know it was Christmas. I now live in a region that gets no snow (or hardly any) and a green Christmas to me just isn't the same. Money is tight, my health is a struggle and my friends and 'family' have all moved on doing their own thing. People don't value togetherness, community, laughter, friendship. Our focus these days is completely wrong. Anyways, if you'd like a buddy to chat with, I'm here.
@alexisenchanted The struggle in life is finding a meaning that brings us individual happiness in a world that favours conformity For many, it's as you say feeding into capitalism for the greater good and also starting a family, which is partly an individual choice but also simply obeying the needs of the genetic code to continue To be completely honest, I have no idea what I want out of life I just continue forward without a plan or objective in mind
Yeah...hardly anyone puts so much as a wreath on their front doors anymore. At least in my neck of the woods. It can't possibly be because of money. You can buy them cheap or secondhand for very little or even make your own from stuff lying around the house. Oh but the latest phone or whatever...THAT they can afford. It ain't about the money.
I believe after some certain age, with the loss of our beloved ones, Christmas and New Year celebrations fades, lose their grace color. It's sad to say, but who never felt the feeling of lost, take the time to celebrate. Great grand parents, grand parents, parents, many of them with me in 1997. Now, they are not. I prefer to not think so much and overcome the last 7 days of the year. 28 years ago the world was so different from now.......
Yes it's sad but true, facing Christmas without our loved ones really like running into some place with great distance we can never reach and can only stare with a depth of sadness full of memories which will never go back to us again. Anyway, I wish you all a Merry Christmas this 2024🎄🎄
I wish I could rest right now, but it seems like work doesn't allow me to do that. Listening to your music has helped me relax and ease some of the fatigue
I was 7 at the time, so I vaguely recall that Christmas. Me and my bro got toy rifles that made noise with each trigger pull, it was the coolest thing ever at the time.
I had just gotten jump by a group of guys 2 weeks before Christmas 97. I was 19 walking around in pain and with scars. Yet I am still missing those days. I also met my future wife that same month. What a time that was.
Really good, sentimental mix. I've just about made this the background theme of our Christmas this year. *And* these tracks are original? How do you make them? :o
Home Alone, The Santa Clause, Elf... as for Friends when you finish that try How I Met Your Mother. It's considered the next generation of the Friends-type of sitcom and it's actually really funny.
God, thank you for deliverance from evil and from wickedness. God thank you for deliverance from sin. Thank you for goodness. Thank you for deliverance from rebellion and discouragement and from sinfulness and recklessness and from wanton behaviors, and from covetousness. I pray this over Gods creation In Jesus mighty name. Amen 🙏 🤍

Don't make me remember how xmas was in 97'... those were days! Now we don't even put decorations anymore in the house.
I mean. You can definitely still put decorations up. That is very possible.
Unfortunately, we see fewer Christmas decorations these days. :(
