Hey Jim & Ed, I got to hang out with Jaime & Gilbert on that Love and Rockets tour in 1992. Funny story, they were scheduled to do a signing at the store I worked at (The Great Escape in Louisville Ky) and the mgr Mark asked me to go with him to pick them up at the airport. Mark was a big fan but I knew nothing about Love and Rockets at the time and I figured they were just a couple of weirdos from California . So, while I am waiting at the airport I read one issue of L&R so that I could at least carry on a conversation with them. Gilbert & Jaime show up and thankfully Mark does all the talking, and at one point Mark says that I was going to take them out to dinner that night. I had NO INTEREST in hanging out with these guys. What did I do? I made up an excuse that I had prepaid for the Julio Cesar Chavez pay per view middleweight fight that night. Gilbert and Jaime overhear what I tell Mark about the fight and they say "you're a fight fan? Man, do you know how we have been on the road to comic shops and nobody has been s a fight fan" We get to talking and I find out these guys are cool, so, I tell them I will record the fight and we go out to dinner (with another employee Chip) to a BBQ place that has a bunch of Muhammad Ali stuff. Gilbert wants to go to a strip club after but I was recently married and didn't know how that would play at home. What did we do? we went up to their hotel, watched nightmare on Elmstreet while the guys were drawing an issue of L & R in the Room! How cool is that! Next day was the signing and Jaime & Gilbert had a great turnout, they also did a drawing for me. We even got mentioned in an issue of Love & Rockets! Definitely one of the best memories of my time working at the store. One more thing, years later I called Eric Reynolds at Fantagraphics (he was our promotions contact at Fantagraphics) and I asked him for Gilberts phone number because i was interested in buying a piece of art (before the internet) Eric says "sure" and I call Gilbert and tell him my name and that I met him in Louisville and he says "Yeah, you were the boxing & BBQ guy" It was nice to know that it was a good memory for Los Bros Hernandez as well! cheers Shawn
I got OUT of comics years ago because this kind of content and community DIDN'T exist, at least nowhere I could find it. I am so damn glad you guys are creating this channel, this community, and this kind of dialogue with the medium/craft itself.
How this channel has (currently) under 10,000 subs is beyond me. All of these shoot interviews feel so genuine and are really just any comics fans dream. It's great to be in time where we can see this caliber of cartoonist, interviewed by this caliber of cartoonist. Thanks for all the work fellas!
I was browsing through Harry Lucey Archie Comics while listening to the interview and it all makes sense now. I can totally see the influence. Great interview, as always.
Thanks for the interview! I have been a fan since the Brothers published the fanzine version of Love and Rockets and sold it via an ad in one of the comics 'zines. Love and Rockets is the only comic that I have every issue of!
For the record: Jim Saltzer's Music Emporium in the Carriage Square Shopping Center, Oxnard was the headshop referenced. It later expanded as Jim Saltzer's Mercantile at Victoria Avenue and 101.
There was one about the lemon Grove. I sat in the library trying to forget that was sleeping on the streets of Mesa AZ for another night. Love and Rocket was a good book that was available to look at while I was waiting to die.
Literally waited by the phone for this one to go live. The moment my phone alerted me that this was up I dropped everything I was doing to watch this... I'm now completely glued to this for the next hour and twelve minutes.
They got me back in to comics! I was out of it due to the blunder of 2017-2020 DC & Marvel comics (especially thr event fatigue). I forgot how much I love comics until fantagraphics being more accesible and Manga too like just this year in my area of LOS ANGELES (of all places too) but I largely acceedit Love and Rockets as I have stayed with this series the most! Its so refreshing to have an adult comic book thats...well....adult. adult in its maturity and trusting its audience to be adults. Unlike most comics who need to spoonfeed its themes and characters.
Jim, were you referring to the "Historietas" that were profiled in the Imp? I think that's just an informal genre name, but those things look both supernaturally lurid and supernaturally stupid at the same time. If you have any, I'd love a Show and Tell.
They might like this fanzine I am gonna spotlight in the next installment of Ink Stains (a fanzine column I do) called Fandom Presents...an over 100 page mimeo done in 65 or so, filled with fan characters and info about them.
Thanks for asking about Xaime’s muse and the beautiful romantic story. Any chance you could cut up that story? I know many people will be moved by that story.

Spread the word about the Cult of Kayfabe!
Gentlemen - you got Hopey's origin story! That is SO DOPE!!! And that story is AMAZING! Well done!!!
We've HAD Hopey's origin. Now, we've hooked YOU up with the gems. The Kayfabe way!
My only complaint is that this video wasn't 12 hours long. SPECTACULAR.
If you can get Gilbert in for a long ass interview that'd be amazing. This was so great, thank you!

You guys, I am now a life-long fan of your show, because of this very chill and fun interview with Jaime. This is the best.
Been waiting for this one! Great shoot interview guys!!

my favorite comic artist of all time, with a few very close
I escaped the awful Strand to come to here. BLESS! This is a proper interview with an artist
Ahhh :)) Thanks for this and the Gary Groth interview! Subscribed!

Thank you for this. The Hernandez Brothers always inspire me to do more art work. I watched this video last night and did some good art work today!
Literally waited by the phone for this one to go live. The moment my phone alerted me that this was up I dropped everything I was doing to watch this... I'm now completely glued to this for the next hour and twelve minutes.
super. the space you give Jaime to talk without interrupting him. amazing interview.
Great interview! Wish it was longer.

Best TH-cam channel out there- keep doing the Lord's work, gentlemen!
This is the most comprehensive interview I have found of Jaime Hernandez on TH-cam.
It's true.
ahhh, I have that Fandom Circus with Jaimie's early art in it! Covered it!
Thank you! This made my day. Watched it twice already and the Dennis the Menace 3 times. Cartoonists (the good ones) are great storytellers
Thank you so much for this. A pleasure to hear what a master has to say
I was sad when this interview ended. Thank you for nailing this!
GAWDAMN that was a great interview
this is gold

Thank you for sharing this wonderful content.
One of the all time greats!
Excellent interview. Very inspiring!
Los Bros!!! Me encanta!!! Thank you for this!!!!
Jaime did a fair amount of fanzine work...some in No Sex...a ton in TCJ, etc
Yayyy! Oxnard! Salzer's is still there! There's Salzer's Video and Salzer's music. I think Salzer's music might have been the head shop.

Yes. I have a few. I'm sure they'll make it on camera sooner or later. - Jim
Jaime is my hero.

Jim and Ed can you guys do a deep dive into MISTER X printed Vortex created by DEAN MOTTER and written by Jaime Gilbert and Mario.
Thanks for asking about Xaime’s muse and the beautiful romantic story. Any chance you could cut up that story? I know many people will be moved by that story.
I would love to share that piece
Damn, I can’t believe Jaime mentioned Pico Rivera.
Thanks for the content. I continue with my request to open the participation to generate subtitles among the subscribers. Saludos!
