Brian Leetch is the greatest American hockey player ever. Calder Trophy, 2 Norris Trophies, Gold Medal, Conn Smythe Trophy and Stanley Cup. Averaged over a point per game in the playoffs for his career and has almost as many points as Modano as a DEFENSEMAN which is insane. If there are any new hockey fans (probably not, but just in case) wondering why Gretzky is the Great One, here's a nutshell stat: He leads all time in goals, he leads all time in assists, and thus obviously he leads all time in points. But though he has the most goals all time, if he had NEVER scored a goal, HE WOULD STILL LEAD ALL TIME IN POINTS.

Rather than just being born in a certain country, I'd rather see any player who actually held that ethnicity. IE... Robyn and Richie Regehr were born in Brazil and Indonesia, respectively....but were actually Canadian.... as were Rod Langway, Craig Adams and Ryan O'Marra. Instead of O"Marra, it should be Yutaka Fukifuji- goalie for LA Kings in 2007.

      1. Cups don’t mean much for solely comparing individuals. I think it’s important that star players get at least one to their name but after that it’s not too much of a difference. Cups are more of a team thing. 2. Ovi has even more awards than Malkin does.
Both are great but I think between the two it’s definitely Ovechkin. Fedorov and Malkin are solid runner ups

Bobby Orr was by all , the best professional player . Orr was a defenseman , but also a two way player . He was the highest scoring defenseman , and controlled the play any time he was on ice . He had no one to protect him , as some other players had . The opposition went after him , ruining his knees in order to stop him . Orr played as well with a bad knee as many did with healthy knees

Gretzky is the greatest of all time, that debate is long over and done with. If you still would lead in all time points with only counting your assists and winning 5 cups in that competivness era, you are the greatest player of all time protected or not, period.
And i think Phil Esposito protected Bobby Orr alot aswell to be honest

Hasek at least deserves an honorable mention for Czech Republic. Probably the greatest goalie of all time

Canadas top 10 players of all time would beat or at least compete with all other countries single best with the possible exception of Russia and Sweden. Honorable mention to Jagr though.

Seriously how the hell does CHIA make the sound TSHAY? What the hell? It's almost insulting, how wrong it is. How do they not care to pronounce the name even remotely right? The HOME fuckin team's player. I just can't fathom.

For the life of me I'll never understand why the "best defencemen ever" just means the highest scoring.

What stat would best represent it? +/-? Agreed that goals isn’t a good stat for it but don’t know what else it’d be

A defenceman who can score always gets accolades, even if they kinda suck at actually defending. I'm a Leafs guy and Reilly drives me nuts with his shit coverage. Give me a great defender who has decent O and also has some nasty in his game. Pronger and Stevens are my favs.
