i would always get the window rep to measure for windows /doors , if there is a mistake its his problem and not yours. Get your bathroom done as a wet room, so its future proofed. bathroom would cost about €8k . Plan for better outdoor security lighting and a outdoor socket, sparky can sort that. Fairy lights look great :)
Ah thank you so much for the tips! I promise this is the last "Christmas" update it'll be all house related and renovation related again from this weekend! For the door quotes they needed a rough size but they'll send a professional out to measure properly for me because I definitely don't want to risk it lol! The plan is to in the next five years turn the shed at the front of the house into a ensuite wetroom as it's just off the bedroom so hopefully that will be good! ♥️

Its coming up to Christmas so no one is expecting you to be pulling things apart and living in dust and rubble at Xmas . Just enjoy what your doing trying to make your wee home look as nice as it can be for the holidays. From January you will never stop as that's when the real hard work will start with all the builders electricians etc, so enjoy the next few weeks pottering about. You are right the tree and the lights are very very important. They make things look different and you may get inspiration for things like where to put outside lights etc. While you are busy doing these tasks you will be thinking of other things to bring beauty to your home. Also I get inspirations when I am driving and keep a notebook handy so I can note them down (not while actually driving!) Sometimes I think I should get a voice activated dictaphone so I didn't need to stop and note but have got over that now.
Oh that's so smart to keep a note book, I always think about things and get ideas when I'm driving and I 100% of the time forget them 🤣 having the lights up really made the place feel better and got me motivated again!
I think Morrigan looks adorable in her Christmas sweater(jumper)! I’m impressed that she kept the hood on-my dog hates hoods! Your cottage looks very festive!

The lights are awesome. I bet the cottage is happy that someone is showing it love again. Those touches really make a place cozy and warm. Even though it's freezing inside 😊 i will do a celibatory dance when your heating is throughout and you aren't cold.much more enjoyable. Since you got white lights, you can keep them up all year. I have cousins over on Chicago, although they may have moved to Florida now I think they were going to retire to there! It's a city I've always wanted to visit! It's Christmas. There is nothing wrong with a bit of homely making at the holidays. Lights look great any time of year. I'm glad to know the solar worked! I'll have to give those a go next year. Great job!
Lucky you, someone precharged your lights 😂 i have to charge in the sun for a day first. Yay for lights, I suggest cable tieing the panel to the top of fence because grass will grow and block it from receiving sun. You can check lights by putting hand on the panel to cutoff sun. Most shower bases, baths etc come in standardised sizes. Dont forget if you think you can 'go bigger' that changes from current sizes will be additions costs for plumbing changes/locations for drains etc too. I'm glad you're making time to enjoy putting up decorations while you can. January is going to be full steam ahead. 😊

Hi Aisling, Your lights are what the house was missing. If I were you, I wouldn't go and buy new stuff for the bathroom yet. Over here, if you work with a professional for the plumbing, they have percentages in shops for all the goods, and anyway, they could provide good advice upon different settings or choices. It's understandable that you want to start, but just wait for a little while. Enjoy the holidays with your babies.
Oh it's so cold and windy!! We've had some kind of artic wind the last week or two which is not ideal with no heating 🤣 and so glad to have you on the journey with us ❤️
Thank you! She's had it a couple years and the vet said if she starts to get dry eye they'll do surgery - she has an intolerance for anesthetic she had a really bad scare when she was neutered so very reluctant to have surgery 😅😅
@morrigans_cottage I'm a licensed Vet Tech and work in Vet medicine for almost 30 years. One of my jobs is anesthetizing animals. There are many different types of anesthetics available. A reaction to one doesn't mean a reaction to all. I have safely anesthetized high risk animals in many different situations. Honestly, it's not a big deal. Her cherry eye looks swollen and red and has to be uncomfortable for her. Also it is high risk for infection. Her scratching at it can cause damage to the cornea resulting in ulceration which take forever to heal and potentially blindness. The surgery is just a couple sutures which tuck that tissue back in place. It's very fast and would only require minimal sedation. If she were my pet, I'd just get it fixed and be done with it. 😊
@ well thank you I appreciate the professional advice! She does have her yearly visit in Feb so I’ll ask them then to refer her to the eye clinic (my vet doesn’t do any eye surgeries but thankfully the vet specialist is 5 mins away!) they do test her tear function and they have said it doesn’t appear to bother her and it’s never gotten infected or anything - and sometimes it does go away by itself for a few days. I’m an anxious person though so we will see what the vet says

I'm a very anxious helicopter mom about morri and I'm just thankful that it hasn't been a big problem for her with irritation or dry eye etc, but she is getting a little older she's nearly 6 so it probably needs to get done before any older, she's had it since she was 1 and they have been keeping an eye on it though ❤️ I do appreciate all the advice, I worry a lot about her 🤣🤣🤣

I love doing my Tree and prepping for Christmas I cook for my Family in Canada so I’m very busy. Hi Aisling this looks so cute and warm, just Imagine Next year every room will sparkle, I had a thought too about the bathroom, and question is do you really need a separate shower unit, ? as you could jig the room around to having bath over at that side, with a shower head over it, this then saves you money to get a new tub as no big shower unit. As for measuring the doors in living room, that wall is going to be done as well, so doors might end up bigger or less so hold off on that till done. Aisling cottage is looking very Festive👍 Have you thought about moving the toilet to beside the sink…you can get vanity type where they are side by side,and it provides storage…plus it would enable you to get a larger rectangular cubicle..much more convenient😉👍

Evening, nice videos, have a look in catalogues and on websites re bathroom ideas, for example you canget corner toilets that would free up more space to get a 90x80 shower or even a 120x80/90 shower, the extra size really does make a difference. Also with the bath you can use boiled white vinegar to clean lots of stains off, including any calcification that leaves that chalky feeling. That way maybe you could make do and just focus on the shower side for now, tho january sales or bathroom outlets could be a good idea. Cant wait to see it as you renovate.

Have you ever thought of taking that wall that separates your living room and kitchen and make it an open plan and you could have an island in the middle of the kitchen if it was I don't know how big your kitchen is but it looks big. Will you get snow ⛄️ our solar panel ended up 2ft deep in snow 😅 and then the lights didn’t work because of the lack of sunlight we get here in the North of Scotland 🏴 , my husband was determined so we use battery lights now
Thankfully we don't tend to get snow, at least we don't normally so fingers crossed none! I am worried that the lack of sun light will mean they won't charge but I think the front of the house lights can be plugged in to charge as well! If not it'll be switched to Battery ones next year ❤️💙

@ oh god that is so cold, I’m not sure if you get it the same in Scotland but the weather the last 12 months has been really bad, more Atlantic storms than ever and so much stronger… I am hoping I won’t have to drain the water system, there hasn’t been any heating on the last couple years at the house and there hasn’t been any burst pipes yet but you just never know 😅 hopefully things will warm up a bit for you, it’s means to be close to 0 I think for the next few days over night but then warming up again
So thankfully I checked after the storm this weekend and all of them were still there! Now I didn’t check if they were working it was just a flying visit but I am hoping they are!
To be honest I’ve never used a bath that I haven’t owned 😂 I can’t explain it but I just don’t know if I’ll feel comfortable using it just knowing how poorly the previous owners kept everything else. All the plumbing and piping has to be replaced so for my own peace of mind I’d like it replaced I think it would bother me if I didn’t 🫠😂
Funny , but when you comment on all that miserable rain blown wind, I still marvel how green your grass is. We've had countless grey days and some in the 20s here in Pennsylvania. The grass gets to be a dull brown, I know its only mid-December, but how I long for a bit of green. Ps I love your solar christmas lights.

Yeah the water that comes from the well is brown and it's unfortunately stained the toilet, it is clean but the porcelain is stained brown now - it's being replaced
It probably is fine, it just makes me feel a little icky, I’m going to see if I can get a good deal on one over Boxing Day but if not I’ll keep what I have!

She is a very easy going little girl who tends to let me dress her but she definitely wouldn’t have kept the hood on much longer than I got!

The lights are awesome. I bet the cottage is happy that someone is showing it love again. Those touches really make a place cozy and warm. Even though it's freezing inside 😊 i will do a celibatory dance when your heating is throughout and you aren't cold.much more enjoyable. Since you got white lights, you can keep them up all year. I have cousins over on Chicago, although they may have moved to Florida now I think they were going to retire to there! It's a city I've always wanted to visit! Lucky you, someone precharged your lights 😂 i have to charge in the sun for a day first. Yay for lights, I suggest cable tieing the panel to the top of fence because grass will grow and block it from receiving sun. You can check lights by putting hand on the panel to cutoff sun.
Most shower bases, baths etc come in standardised sizes. Dont forget if you think you can 'go bigger' that changes from current sizes will be additions costs for plumbing changes/locations for drains etc too.
I'm glad you're making time to enjoy putting up decorations while you can. January is going to be full steam ahead. 😊

Your lights are what the house was missing. If I were you, I wouldn't go and buy new stuff for the bathroom yet. Over here, if you work with a professional for the plumbing, they have percentages in shops for all the goods, and anyway, they could provide good advice upon different settings or choices. It's understandable that you want to start, but just wait for a little while. Enjoy the holidays with your babies.

Morrigans eye issue is called a cherry eye. A Vet can easily fix it with a minor surgery. Please consider this 😊
Thank you! She's had it a couple years and the vet said if she starts to get dry eye they'll do surgery - she has an intolerance for anesthetic she had a really bad scare when she was neutered so very reluctant to have surgery 😅😅
@morrigans_cottage I'm a licensed Vet Tech and work in Vet medicine for almost 30 years. One of my jobs is anesthetizing animals. There are many different types of anesthetics available. A reaction to one doesn't mean a reaction to all. I have safely anesthetized high risk animals in many different situations. Honestly, it's not a big deal. Her cherry eye looks swollen and red and has to be uncomfortable for her. Also it is high risk for infection. Her scratching at it can cause damage to the cornea resulting in ulceration which take forever to heal and potentially blindness. The surgery is just a couple sutures which tuck that tissue back in place. It's very fast and would only require minimal sedation. If she were my pet, I'd just get it fixed and be done with it. 😊
@ well thank you I appreciate the professional advice! She does have her yearly visit in Feb so I’ll ask them then to refer her to the eye clinic (my vet doesn’t do any eye surgeries but thankfully the vet specialist is 5 mins away!) they do test her tear function and they have said it doesn’t appear to bother her and it’s never gotten infected or anything - and sometimes it does go away by itself for a few days. I’m an anxious person though so we will see what the vet says

I'm a very anxious helicopter mom about morri and I'm just thankful that it hasn't been a big problem for her with irritation or dry eye etc, but she is getting a little older she's nearly 6 so it probably needs to get done before any older, she's had it since she was 1 and they have been keeping an eye on it though ❤️ I do appreciate all the advice, I worry a lot about her 🤣🤣🤣

Hi Aisling this looks so cute and warm, just Imagine Next year every room will sparkle, I had a thought too about the bathroom, and question is do you really need a separate shower unit, ? as you could jig the room around to having bath over at that side, with a shower head over it, this then saves you money to get a new tub as no big shower unit. As for measuring the doors in living room, that wall is going to be done as well, so doors might end up bigger or less so hold off on that till done. But either way still great to have a vision, and yes that wardrobe idea I was like OMG Aisling I have to find a way to let you see it. so cool. anyway big hugs and catch you on the next one, hugs to all the girls, xxxxxx Dede

Have you thought about moving the toilet to beside the sink…you can get vanity type where they are side by side,and it provides storage…plus it would enable you to get a larger rectangular cubicle..much more convenient😉👍

Evening, nice videos, have a look in catalogues and on websites re bathroom ideas, for example you canget corner toilets that would free up more space to get a 90x80 shower or even a 120x80/90 shower, the extra size really does make a difference.
Also with the bath you can use boiled white vinegar to clean lots of stains off, including any calcification that leaves that chalky feeling. That way maybe you could make do and just focus on the shower side for now, tho january sales or bathroom outlets could be a good idea.

Have you ever thought of taking that wall that separates your living room and kitchen and make it an open plan and you could have an island in the middle of the kitchen if it was I don't know how big your kitchen is but it looks big. You can buy clips that fix to the guttering!! A lot easier to install!!

Will you get snow ⛄️ our solar panel ended up 2ft deep in snow 😅 and then the lights didn’t work because of the lack of sunlight we get here in the North of Scotland 🏴 , my husband was determined so we use battery lights now
Thankfully we don't tend to get snow, at least we don't normally so fingers crossed none! I am worried that the lack of sun light will mean they won't charge but I think the front of the house lights can be plugged in to charge as well! If not it'll be switched to Battery ones next year ❤️💙

@ oh god that is so cold, I’m not sure if you get it the same in Scotland but the weather the last 12 months has been really bad, more Atlantic storms than ever and so much stronger… I am hoping I won’t have to drain the water system, there hasn’t been any heating on the last couple years at the house and there hasn’t been any burst pipes yet but you just never know 😅 hopefully things will warm up a bit for you, it’s means to be close to 0 I think for the next few days over night but then warming up again

To be honest I’ve never used a bath that I haven’t owned 😂 I can’t explain it but I just don’t know if I’ll feel comfortable using it just knowing how poorly the previous owners kept everything else. All the plumbing and piping has to be replaced so for my own peace of mind I’d like it replaced I think it would bother me if I didn’t 🫠😂

Funny , but when you comment on all that miserable rain blown wind, I still marvel how green your grass is. We've had countless grey days and some in the 20s here in Pennsylvania. The grass gets to be a dull brown, I know its only mid-December, but how I long for a bit of green.

Yeah the water that comes from the well is brown and it's unfortunately stained the toilet, it is clean but the porcelain is stained brown now - it's being replaced
Just disinfect the bath - it seems a waste of money to replace a perfectly good bath.
