Most people I know first heard this song as performed by Bette Midler. It was a huge international hit, although in my opinion, it was overproduced and a bit too polished. Your stripped-back rendition reminds me of the late Nanci Griffith's performance on the David Letterman show. You have a strong, solid voice but you've still conveyed the same vulnerability. I can't know for sure but I think Julie Gold would be proud of what you've done with her song.
