- This aria is from a radio broadcast complete performance, at the Metropolitan Opera New York, of Puccini's opera Manon Lescaut.
I have heard it said that Jussi did not have a very large voice and that in live performance it was not always possible to hear him clearly. Not having had the pleasure of hearing him sing live I can't dispute that but, even though the audio quality is poor in this recording, in comparison to that of today, I think it demonstrates well that in the correct circumstances on stage (positioning in relation to microphone, orchestra etc) the power of Jussi's voice was more than adequate in live performance and the audience reaction at the end seems to confirm this.
Il must admit l have no musical talent or knowledge really but to hear Jussi makes my heart soar in a unique way- l first heard him singing the duet from the Pearl Fisher’s In 1960 and from that day to this for me there is no competition. Thank you again for the time and trouble you take to bring us these joys.
It really is a pleasure Marian, thanks for listening. I've always loved music and since my knees decided that they had had about enough walking music has taken over.
Jussi shares top place in my list of favourite tenors with John McCormack and Enrico Caruso but he doesn't mind, he was a nice man.
Jussi is the best! Thank you for posting!
It's my pleasure Hella, thank you for listening.

Hi Michael Bjorling is one of my favorite singers such warmth and energy!!!! Thank you very much Joe
Hi Joe, nice to hear from you, I'm glad that you enjoyed it. I may have told you before that Jussi shares top place in my list of favourite tenors with John McCormack and Enrico Caruso.
I had a look at Christmas to see if you had uploaded anything new and didn't find any but I did find some that I missed before where you are singing in a Church. You did a great job Joe and the audience obviously loved your performance.
Best Regards, Michael.
Poor audio quality ? This stereo sounding recording for a live event almost 70 years ago is fantastic !
Thank goodness for that. When I read your first words "Poor audio quality" I thought that you were criticizing my work on the recording! Thanks for listening I'm really pleased that you enjoyed the video.
Welcome!! Marvelous interpreter excellent artwork. Applause and congratulations. Thank you.
It's my pleasure Rosa, thank you for listening/watching, I'm really pleased that you like the video.
Encore!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
@@Rosangela161 Thanks for the encore Rosa.
Great rendition by Jussi, it's only the begrudgers who would say he hadn't got a strong voice, just because he didn't belt out the high notes as if that was all that mattered. Thanks Michael.
It's my pleasure Helena, thank you for listening and for your comment, I'm glad that you enjoyed the video.
Recordings and photos don't lie.
A beautiful voice is more important than a large and strong voice.
Even today, I go on a hike to see azaleas.
Have a good night Michael!!
Thanks for listening Chang. Enjoy your walk, I'm looking forward to seeing the video.

I had a little jaw surgery lately, but nothing serious. The stitches will be taken out tomorrow, then I'll go eat an ice cream sundae! 🍧
Warm regards! 🍀🌞🍀
WONDERFUL
Thanks for listening, glad that you enjoyed it.
One of my favourite arias by Puccini… and Jussi Björling brings even more class and splendour to it through the beauty and elegance of his voice… ⭐️🌹⭐️
Thank you for the terrific post, Michael! 🙏🍀
As always, a very enjoyable and rewarding video! ✨
Hello Harriet, thank you for listening, I'm glad that you like the video.
Warm regards from cold, wet Yorkshire.

Cold and wet, is it? Just the weather we had for weeks before a small outburst of summer (temperatures up to 27° Celsius tomorrow). Then more rain will be expected and the temperatures are supposed to drop again… I guess I should keep my rheumatism blanket at the ready…
Well, but no matter the weather, we still have our music and Michael‘s lovely videos… There‘s another one waiting for me, „Parigi, o cara“, and I look forward to it already! ⭐️
Warm regards!
Oops, forgot the shamrocks: 🍀☘️🍀☘️🍀☘️🍀
@@hrbooksmusic7878 Enjoy the warm sunshine Harriet, it's just 15C here today.

No more sunshine here, Michael… but still lots of music! And work. I‘ll try to mix both but concentrate on your „Parigi, o cara“ video completely because it‘s also a feast for the eye… ⭐️
@@michaelmcgrailengland You're from Yorkshire?? Such a small world, me too!
My voice teacher Anthony Frisell, who taught Sandor Konya and Flaviano Labo for a time after working as an opera director at the New Orleans Opera in the late forties and fifties, was, like myself, a huge fan of Björling. But he did say, time and again, that he did not have a big voice and could be inaudible in ensemble pieces. On the concert stage, he said, you couldn’t ask for more.
Thanks for listening and for your comment Chris.
@@michaelmcgrailengland Thank you for all the fine recordings!
@@chrispietronigro1450 It's my pleasure Chris.
Que placer escuchar al más grande!!!❤
