Only Americans need to have their humor be extremely obvious slapstick garbage. The rest of us are of at least minimal intelligence, so we are able to distinguish the more subtle humor that has always been used in Europe and Canada. That's what happens when your founding population is that of humorless puritans who want to destroy all fun. The GOP is still at it today. They've gone from hating all fun to hating everyone and everything, except the things that make them rich, which get an automatic pass, no matter how vile and harmful a thing it maybe.
I never thought I would be so invested in urinals. I have been emotionally moved in a way that few movies manage to. From the visuals, to the beautiful music... This is a work of beauty.
Public urinals seem like a nice idea, but as a Torontonian, I feel like a city loses some of its unique charm when you aren't constantly on the look out for puddles of human urine and piles of human feces, as well as the people leaving them, around every corner. I guess I'm just a romantic that way 🤷♂
I never thought I would find such a compelling and well-made video about urinals. Got me hooked and I can't believe I watched an entire 9 min vid about this topic, no other TH-camr could've done that.
This video is such a good combo of shitposting, education and patriotism that entertained and motivated me enough to stop zombie scrolling and start studying instead.
When you go make sure to take a train to Rotterdam, Delft, Leiden, The Hague or Haarlem. Many people make the mistake of going to the tourist traps which is the centre of Amsterdam only.
Only Hoog can make a video about urinals, compare it to ASML and Dutch water management and still sound serious. The Dutch humour used in the design of this video is clearly the best in the world.
Such a delicate, intimate topic covered in the most professional manner. Well done 👏 I had no idea "piss related drownings" were so prevalent. I love it and am really happy to hear they have one for the ladies as well. As someone who frequently needs such a facility, I'm reassured that the Dutch have taken this seriously for tourists and residents. Lavatories abroad are a confusing matter. Now I know should we add them to our travel bucket lost they've got us covered to protect from drowning or needing to frantically find a facility in another language.
Public urination is illegal in Amsterdam today. Historically, public urination in the Red Light District, particularly around Oudekerksplein and Warmoesstraat, was more tolerated, especially at night. However, the city is cracking down on it, increasing patrols and enforcement. Public urinals were also present here but have been largely removed. There are plenty of Cafes and restaurants with bathrooms.
The plaskrul is such a good example of "Dutch Design", one of a handful "national" traditions of design that is globally dominant right now, together with scandanivian design, for example You should ask ChatGPT for a comprehensive run-down of what "Dutch design" means and maybe make a video on it 🐶
In my dutch town, Enschede, two elevator urinals rise from the ground around the entrance of the Old Church, centrally located in the middle of the main square with nightlife Why this is nifty is that it isnt just more hygienic and just better for air quality, but it's also saving the Old Church's sandstone walls from getting solved away by all the acidic piss. Now instead of the largest public urinal of town, it is the largest single bike-rack as it gets 360° surrounded by meters upon meters of bicycles three times a week or so
Dude, I loved the animations on this video so much, please keep it up! Also, great video as usual. I wish someday you and Jason can do a collab, it would be really interesting.
here in the netherlands they tell us to never drink with the britts. they say it's because we pass out while ur just getting started. but actually it's to avoid a pissing contest
True, they are just awesome. Available in many spaces, free and it is super fast and convenient to use. So yeah, I also use them all day long and not-drunk.
You have such a great tone and attitude Hoog. Loved your videos for a long time, but this one is fantastic. Never been to Amsterdam, but i hope there's still a cast iron urinal somewhere to pee surrounded by that comforting cast iron golden ratio.
The strong smell of these urinals around the city next to a cosy restaurant/café also makes it very inviting to urinate. ❤ As a local Amsterdammer you can easily tell the exact location of each one of these urinals from miles away! Truly a marvelous invention!
Did the narrator actually call the residents selfish for wanting to get rid of these urinals? I mean, I can’t blame them for wanting to stop drunk tourists from pissing near their homes or all over their boats.
I work at the DPA and this is a serious problem we face in the Netherlands. Way too many people die this way, so many that the government has issued signs to hang on the bridges and around the canals.

@@martindejong3974 So what do you do if they have already gone down, but you are there and dearly need them? Is there a button or do you have to do a secret dance on top of them or do you piss into the canal once more?

I never thought I’d hear a man utter the phrase “piss related drowning” in such a serious tone but here we are
Yup. Here we are…
Well as funny as it is it is serious.
I went to Amsterdam last year and really struggled with finding toilets. I googled locations of public toilets but everything that came up was paid toilets. I also of course heard it was illegal to urinate in the canals but I didn't realise those weird metal structures were for peeing in public. I would trek the entire length of the city to get back to the hostel to use the toilet there, then trek back and continue whatever i was doing, it was a weird experience
Really?m I have to admit, even though knowing these, I've peed in the canals from time to time. Never had issues and it's just very convenient and a very widely available urinal haha
@@basti279
One day, your luck may run out. Don't risk falling into the canal. Use the urinals.
@@gabrielgingras814 If I do I use those with a railing. Safety first 😂
@@basti279
You should still not piss in public waterways. Imagine all the effort needed to make them clean and you just piss on it. It's a disgrace for everyone living or walking in the area.
Well, one can always pee their pants, wind fixes the rest. Or adult diaper
The quality of the animations is breathtaking. High-quality video, high-quality research, high-quality editing, high-quality everything! Outstanding.
Not Just Bikes showcases the Netherlands's urban infrastructure. Hoog showcases everything else.

Man, this channel is so good. It's kind of a parody of self important essay channel while being one itself.
One of the highest quality, most informative and hysterically funny videos I’ve seen in a very long time!😂❤ Well done Skillshare!

So I was visiting my sister in Amsterdam and as we walked down the street, i kinda realized there were usually no rails around the channels. So I jokingly asked, if they get a lot of drowned drunks around here? And she was: "yeah, it's actually a real problem, you know"
fitting username
The words in the beginning are inspiring. A great description of a urinal. Thank you, for your great description and inspiration.
The Not Just Bikes shout out is pretty funny.
This has to be satire and I absolutely love it
no they exist and the reason and problems are real
I was in Amsterdam last week, its real trust me
I thought so too but I looked it up and they're actually real

The urinal GOAT 🐐
The one and only! Love your videos! keep it up!
I can’t tell if this video is a joke or if it’s genuine. This is some next dimension level humor!
The video is genuine, but with a heavy humourish undertone. The truth can be funny too.
"Piss related drownings" sounds a bit weird...
Amaaaaaazing video as usual my guy, you are doing more to advertise the country more than the ministry of tourism, love the Netherlands!!!!
This is your best video yet.
Once grabbed a friend one second before he walked off into a river doing exactly this. It's nice to know people are doing things about it.
Keep up the work, you got the potential for greatness

I just watched an entire 10 minute video about urinals in Amsterdam for drunk British tourists and I don’t know how to feel about that
I hope you're not pissed about it
Public urinals seem like a nice idea, but as a Torontonian, I feel like a city loses some of its unique charm when you aren't constantly on the look out for puddles of human urine and piles of human feces, as well as the people leaving them, around every corner. I guess I'm just a romantic that way 🤷♂
don't public urinals/toilets solve that problem though, so people use them instead of pissing on the streets and in rivers or canals
Seems like you and Amsterdam agree. You dont want to constantly be on the lookout for puddles of piss, hence the urinals.

You have quite the gift for story telling and relaying important facts.
This video is such a good combo of shitposting, education and patriotism that entertained and motivated me enough to stop zombie scrolling and start studying instead.
This is next level dry humor with a solid logistical twist.

When you go make sure to take a train to Rotterdam, Delft, Leiden, The Hague or Haarlem. Many people make the mistake of going to the tourist traps which is the centre of Amsterdam only.
The production of your videos are amazing.
Bro you're taking the piss haha i have never heard anyone speak so passionately about urinals
Only Hoog can make a video about urinals, compare it to ASML and Dutch water management and still sound serious. The Dutch humour used in the design of this video is clearly the best in the world.
"Piss related drowning" may be my new favourite phrase
But do we _want_ to piss on the Street in the Netherlands ?
That's the question
In Amsterdam yes
Yes
Want or not, you do it
my buddy invited me to take a trip with him to the netherlands to see a concert, but now i know what i'm really hoping to see there
Such a delicate, intimate topic covered in the most professional manner.
Well done 👏
I had no idea "piss related drownings" were so prevalent.
There are plenty of Cafes and restaurants with bathrooms.
i think public urinals were a thing in every european big city but in Amsterdam they stayed. The urinals are also old.
Wow the not just bikes shout out at the end was super cool. I love their work, this city design stuff is also super cool, keep up the good work 👍
This is genuinely the greatest youtube video I have ever watched.
I was not ready for “piss-related drownings,” lol. This topic did not deserve these top-notch graphics 😅
This is so beautiful. I will be telling everyone about the genius of the pisscurl.
OK I just love the "p=.5" on the thing when you said "holding all other variables equal" 😂
Oooo and I absolutely love your innovation with neon visuals
The plaskrul is such a good example of "Dutch Design", one of a handful "national" traditions of design that is globally dominant right now, together with scandanivian design, for example
You should ask ChatGPT for a comprehensive run-down of what "Dutch design" means and maybe make a video on it 🐶
In my dutch town, Enschede, two elevator urinals rise from the ground around the entrance of the Old Church, centrally located in the middle of the main square with nightlife
Why this is nifty is that it isnt just more hygienic and just better for air quality, but it's also saving the Old Church's sandstone walls from getting solved away by all the acidic piss.
As a bristish man I feel offended yet its so true LMAO
here in the netherlands they tell us to never drink with the britts. they say it's because we pass out while ur just getting started. but actually it's to avoid a pissing contest
There was also an accident a while back when a city maintenance worker was crushed to death in one of those Uralifts that was trying to close.
I used them many times when I visited Amsterdam. I wasn’t drunk at all, but did it because I could.
True, they are just awesome. Available in many spaces, free and it is super fast and convenient to use. So yeah, I also use them all day long and not-drunk.

I saw urinals like these in Germany, and despite being conspicuousely public, they also seemed incredibly private. Very good design.
They first 'poped up' in the city of Groningen (NL). We get many German tourists. I'm sure that a German city planner saw the design and copied it.
Leuven (belgium) has had the pop up ones for 10 years now@@cyrilio

Imagine your bladder about to explode, and you have to wait for the public urinal to get into position first.
As a local Amsterdammer you can easily tell the exact location of each one of these urinals from miles away! Truly a marvelous invention!
this style of animation is just soo good

Did the narrator actually call the residents selfish for wanting to get rid of these urinals? I mean, I can’t blame them for wanting to stop drunk tourists from pissing near their homes or all over their boats.
Fun fact: The channel name refers to the state he was in when making this video
I can’t believe I spent 9 minutes of my life watching a video about plaskrul
I work at the DPA and this is a serious problem we face in the Netherlands. Way too many people die this way, so many that the government has issued signs to hang on the bridges and around the canals.
