I love love love your online questions and youtube videos. The questions are hard but not to the point its even harder than the actual exam. Thank you for the video, I needed it!
Can u please explain to me how the answer is cant tell at 10mins 30 secs? The question states they will spend OVER $1 billion but the passage states they are spending $1 billion. Furthermore, the passage doesnt talk about it being their “aim” so how do we assume that they are only aiming to spend that money over the next 5 yrs? For these reasons I put false as my answer. Could you please explain why you put cant tell?
Hi there! Its one of those tricky examples in UCAT, where there is a fine line between it being 'Can't Tell', or being able to make an inference to make it 'True'. Here, it says ministers say they will spend over 1 billion, which doesn't mean it WILL happen. For example, they could fail to meet these promises or targets, so its not a definitive statement that it WILL happen. However, this is close to being true via an inference, but its just a little too far, so here the answer is Can't Tell. Kunal
Medic Mind thank you, makes sense! But the question says OVER £1bill, whilst in the passage it says £1bill specifically. So, if we knew it was definitely going to happen, would the answer be considered false?
aus aus it’s because the passage says that “they say they will spend £1bn”. So they may in fact end up spending more/less than this in the next five years. Because of this uncertainty, the answer is can’t tell. If the passage said ‘they spent £1bn”, then it would’ve been false(haven’t actually spent anything yet). Hope that makes sense.

At 8:56 why is that when the word "often" was used the answer was cant tell but if "sometimes" was used instead the statement would be true?
I think if you think about it often is like more regularly and sometimes is more once in a while
