I agree. That's when I really got hooked on them. Thief, Tangram, Exit, White Eagle time, and to a lesser extent Logos and Poland. I kind of lost interest in them after that, as much due to my own musical tastes evolving as their style shifting.
OMG. Johannes always absolutely rocked. My favourite era of Tangerine Dream, and his solo stuff is brilliant. The Zoo of Tranquility (the original version) is one of my favourite albums of all time. I am so happy right now!
Johannes brought a sophistication to TD by by utilising more complex chords and ideas (somewhat coming from jazz and fusion) than they were doing in the 70s. I too loved Zoo of Tranquility and had the original release on Theta back in 1987 or so along with Wuivend Riet and White out.. all magical albums.... I can't help but wonder what magic music TD would have made if JS had stayed with them but very glad to hear those CDs back then.
Everyone at some point seemed to fall out with Edgar. I'm amazed Franke lasted so long with the band, but in hindsight that was a fairly short-lived relationship too. Listening to these excerpts from the concert it's pretty clear who was really driving the musical direction of TD in the early 80's. Similarly with Baumann in the 1970's. Maybe Froese was like all those great people we all meet where the relationship dies quickly and abruptly after a few months. But during that brief period you experience and achieve the very best creative periods of your life.
The VP 20 EP was already incredible. The 21 album was outstanding. And now, Iter Meum: "MY OWN WAY". From the height of his 72 well lived years, JS (not the Johann Sebastian) decided to show the kids how it's done. Plenty of varied electronic instrumentals in the exact same style that is being rediscovered (and ripped off) by a newer generation. You could interpret his written statement on the album notes as a unsubtle jab towards the current version of Tangerine Dream, who, as he pointed out, don't even know how to play correctly one of his famed compositions for the band. I'm so happy that he's releasing at such a fast pace this new stuff in the classic style. I have heard the new album on phones several times already, but wow, through conventional speakers and with video accompaniment, it brought a tear to my eye. As stern and serious as he always looks like in pictures, musical pieces like "Mytangram" and "Ancient Ride" shows a heart with a very affectionate and sweet side.
This is a great album. Which is no surprise at all. JS's solo work speaks for itself, as does the music from Loom and SAW. Those groundbreaking TD albums - Tangram, Exit, White Eagle, Logos, Hyperborea, Poland - set a standard that remains at the very pinnacle of electronic music. More please.
It's very exciting to see again new material with Tangerine Dream original members. Johannes Schmoelling allows to know the Edgar Froese vision ahead at the time. I can't wait to heard this amazing ITER MEUM complete! Thanks for sharing!
@@GrahamFMcElearneymy view is that there's a sweet spot, roughly 1980-1985 when TD still had some intensity but combined it with JS's better command of structure and composition, to give us masterpieces like Tangram and Horizon from Poland. You can hear New Ageism beckoning though e.g. on some of the blander tracks on Le Parc
An exciting work with very different moods, played on old synthesizers... Some touching passages you don't even hear on the youtube trailer. I can recommend Iter Meum to all Tangerine Dream fans! Lambert
Glad to hear those sounds from the 80‘ again. A flashback in happier times🎉
JS is and was always one of my favorite composers. The best Music created by Tangerine Dream was when he was Member of the Band.

Johannes wasn't an original member though - he replaced Peter Baumann
@@GrahamFMcElearney who cares it was better with him than with Baumann anyway
@@SebSirois bloody nonsense - well on their way to being a bunch of 80s cheese merchants when JS joined

omg, I'm so excited
Para mim o melhor compositor de música eletrônica da atualidade. Aqui maia uma obra prima.
Makes me think about "Chronos" movie made by Ron Fricke for the times lapses.
Superb, can we get the album in the uk?
Schon gemacht Andy !
Great music from Johannes Shmoeliing one of the original Tangerine dream member
